How does Sakura beat Honda =(
sakura can handle honda. granted i keep my lady Chun on retainer just in case, but it's not that bad for sakura. you can zone him safely with fireballs providing he's not close enough to hit you in recovery - if you throw a lvl 2 fireball you'll have to c.fp his jump on reaction
beating honda is about knowing your safejump setups. sakura's crossup j.mk can beat out EX headbutt, but not if you get hit. it's the same deal as some shotos, where reversal timing gets beat out (he'll fly away though ) but a slight delay will force autocorrect and smack you. the nice thing is, if he delays for autocorrect, your j.hp will hit him. you need to make a read on him, and play accordingly, or just use the couple of actually safe setups sakura possesses against Honda
beyond that, doing lk tatsu right on top of him when he wakes up is a good option. if he does EX headbutt you'll hop through him before you get hit, but only if you're RIGHT up in his grill, so only do it off untechable knockdowns.
the main reason it's kind of difficult for sakura is that there's the perception that sakura has to get in, and the stop sign (nj.fp) is as strong as ever. so, don't go after him. this is a matchup where the round will either end at 85 seconds remaining because you walked through him, or at 15 seconds because you lamed him out. if he gets a big (30%+) life lead on you and just sits there, you're fucked, so do whatever you want cuz it doesn't matter!
if you get a life lead, do WHATEVER YOU CAN to preserve it. do not get saucy and attack him anyway. honda actually has a much harder time getting in on sakura than the reverse.
the biggest thing though, if you're at neutral near him, you need to focus on whiff punishing his normals. if you can't do that, you're pretty much gonna lose. if you can, it's a very manageable matchup. sakura outdamages honda (as strange as that sounds it's true), so play it cool.
also remember that your close s.fp will anti-air butt slams.
because of how this matchup plays out i think below a certain skill level it's largely in Honda's favor, but once a Sakura can demonstrate an element of control and clarity, it shifts very close to even, possibly even in Sakura's favor
it's very very important to focus on Honda's meter management in this matchup. with EX meter he can get out of your mixups, even if he has a hard time counterhitting them. without meter, all of your regular jump-in setups off untechable knockdown will hard counter headbutt AND buttslam.
A huge wrench in the mix is playing online I guess. Punishing whiffed normals online is fucking difficult, and if I have to rely on that then I'm in trouble. I also don't have an answer to even non-EX headbutts because online if you try to neutral jump them you get hit during prejump. And yeah, once Honda gets meter I have to basically go completely on the defensive because EX headbutt is terrifying.
And it's been said, but I'm still struggling with the twins using Sakura. I can't get away with the anti-divekick c.lp c.lk c.hp option select (which works against Rufus) because their height restriction and fast jump actually lets them clear c.hp range and punish me. Pretty hilarious in a "well now what?" sort of way. I've been trying to neutral jump and it kind of works if the twin player is terrible and crouches when he lands. I guess my last option is to s.lp antiair but the only thing that does is reset them for very little damage and they can start the mixup all over again. Yang seems even safer than Yun hilariously enough.
Cant you basically empty jump at honda and force him to burn his meter to aa, then just jump all over him? A bunch of locals are starting to do that with pretty solid success.
I mean, I don't have to because I play yun so I don't really use strategy anymore, but thats what other people are doing.
I dont think sakura really has consistent defensive options vs the twins. When I'm not mashing with yun, I generally treat the twins kinda like 3s makoto, where you just guess your way out and go on offense before they get a chance to kill you, because if they stay on offense long enough you'll eventually die no matter what.
I may have just not played vs good enough twins yet (not at all unlikely) but being random vs them seems to pay off a lot more than being patient or defensive.
edit: I hate being on a new page, now I'm gonna have to go back and quote people =(
sakura has options against dive kicks. her new s.mk has a hitbox that extends past her vulnerable hitbox. s.mp is pretty good too but i have trouble hitting them with it
when they dive kick over and over up close off the blockstun of their godly 3f normals her s.fp is really strong
With the risk of looking like a complete idiot, how do you guys play this game actualy? The keyboard is is just too s*** for my fei long, and sticks are not an option where I live. Started playing a few days ago, the normal SF4 on pc, and I'm using a ps2 controller.

i would say arcade stick > keyboard > gamepad
dont understand what's your problem with keyboard. it's extremely precise and responsive.

i know some stuff about viper, where's your execution level? do you know how to superjump cancel normals into ultra?
Execution isn't that good... << Yes I can superjump cancel normals into ultra (but didn't remember about it until i saw your post and tried it lol) which I can do fine but during a match I can't use it reliably well enough
Oh and since I was playing before Super SSF4 came out, how improved/changed Viper is with Super and AE?

For SSF4AE, or any fighting games in general, do you prefer Xbox or PS3? Or does it really not matter to you as long as your controller is the same?
After watching some videos... I'm really tempted to buy a console now.
If you are interested in tournaments at all, I would check the preference of your local scene. Otherwise most people seem to prefer the Xbox360 for its online support and stability. Controllers are usually console specific (due to encryption on 360s) but both types should work on pc.

Don't forget there is the PC version, which I believe you can play against people on xbox live
However, atm there's that horrible bug locking out 3/4's of people's keyboards and sticks With a 3rd party hotfix you can get the keyboard working, but my stick doesn't work and whenever I change a game option it locks out my keyboard again
Btw, Europeans CAN play. Just launch the exe, get your key from the Steam game details page (it's on the bottom right) The pre-load is not encrypted! :D
Add me on PC SSF4 AE infDrb00 (Alberta, west ish coast for you Americans) my benchmark in the game is A so hope you have A as well if you want to play or hope you have it on Forced frame-rate.
Anyone having issues with their stick working, I found why I couldn't get my Hori RAP3 (Real Arcade Pro 3) to work. You have to change your stick setting from DPad to Left Stick Its as simply as changing your switch from DP to LS. For some reason the game doesn't detect Dpad as a legit input option for sticks and possibly why some peoples controller's weren't working as well.
Edit: anyone got some good information for Oni I plan on trying to get good with him since I think he's an overlooked character in the more competitive scene.
Also anyone know a good location to learn about option selects? I understand the general idea behind them but I don't know how to do them, nor how to know what is possible to option select.

Certain keyboards have ghosting issues (where multiple keys pressed at once won't register), so like doing giefs ult might fail since the keyboard won't register 3 punch keys with a movement key (less of an issue if you use the 3 punch button)
