If it's the former then they just reverted every single meaningful Vega buff.

Its obviously a list from 2012 -> ultra because every single change that has been known for ages is again listed there (like cr.lk nerf for fei or cr.mk hitbox extension for viper). But yeah, no clue why they felt the need to strip all those vega buffs again. What they are doing sure seems a bit random at times to say the least.

On a more serious note, wtf is up with those oni changes?? Considering the changes to oni and the rest of the cast, oni should be god tier. I mean seriously, didnt they get the memo about oni actually being pretty damn good already? Now they wanna give him FADC on his srk, buff his sweep, buff his fwd+mk (which buffs his kara super as well), buff his medium sekisei which already was hard to punish on block for many characters due to pushback... now its gonna be impossible for any char who doesnt have a long reaching 4f move, buff his fireballs (and fireball ultra) and buff his slashes (not very much impact, but still)..... Combofiend, pls stahp!!!

I might be biased as an Oni player, but I think you're highly overestimating the changes. In fact, I MYSELF was worried they'd end up overbuffing him, but the changes are actually really reasonable IMO. Along the same lines as what a lot of other characters are getting.

The fireball changes are not only warranted, but he will STILL have some of the slowest in the game anyway. They will definitely still be slow enough to punish easily if your opponent is prepared or reads it, but the slight reduction gives a tiny bit more leeway for mistakes or random jumps in the neutral game.

They gave him FADC on his DP on block, yes. But they're making overall changes where blocked DP FADC is going to be risky anyway, because if you notice they're making all DP (block) FADC forward very disadvantaged now. THANK GOD in my opinion. In return they're also nerfing his Heavy DP, which is warranted since it was really good (invincibility) as a trade off of being un-FADCable.

The ultra1 changes are relatively minor, and likely just a side effect of the DP-fadc stuff, so that it will connect (ala Ryu Ultra1) properly off of things after the changes. Reducing the ground start up to 9f doesn't really allow it to punish much that you you couldn't already punish before.

They are reducing the frame disadvantage on the LK and MK stomps, but I have a feeling that may also affect or have something to do with the pushback, so we'll wait and see. Also the LK swipe is getting nerfed, which I not only agree with but would posit that it could use a bit more nerfing. This move is very strong for the mix up opportunities and safety (somewhat) it offers.

The changes I'm most interested in AND concerned about are the changes to his normals. F.MK is going to be quite a bit faster now, and I have a big hunch this change might not survive to release. Or at least, if it does, they'll probably make it unable to link afterwards (which is already difficult and spacing dependent). The sweep change is "warranted" since his sweep is pretty rough now, but this might just be a case of too many tools. With a character that has other means of hard knockdown and other great normals, he might not also need a better sweep.

Don't get me wrong, I agree that in his current incarnation Oni is DANGEROUS, way more than people expect. Sanford kind of demonstrated that recently, and Wao is going fucking nuts in Japan right now. But I think it's just because he's secretly GOOD (not OP) and people never realized or just aren't used to the matchup. I know that's a classic excuse, but I don't think his Ultra changes are as gamebreaking as people think. While he's getting a lot of attention in the update, it's way more conservative than I personally expected, and for this I'm GLAD. Because people are starting to see the potential already in AE2012, and overbuffs would probably be bad.

MORAL OF THE STORY DON'T EXPECT ANY "PATCH ONI'S" lol (thank god)

Edit: by the way don't take this as a personal attack or antagonistic at all! I just felt like breaking down the changes. I'd love to discuss! This is actually the first set of official Oni changes I've bothered to look at on paper because they're probably getting closer and closer to final versions (I CBA with keeping up with new test location patch notes every 2 weeks with radically different adjustments)

hm this would actually be a lot more hype if the trailer hadnt shown scenes exclusively from fight night including an akuma mirror which means until tokido fights infiltration you just know hes gonna win

I hate watching Akuma but Tokido is such a cool guy.

I wanna point out though that c.mk xx lk axekick FADC c.lp cl.fp xx mk axekick, c.lp xx lk tatsu, dp is not 440+ dmg. I just did this (with c.mp instead of c.lp after mk axekick even) and i got 409 dmg. With ex dp at the end 417. Evil Ryu is really fun and id like to invest more time into him, but unfortunately I dont think its worth it if your only opportunity to play is online.. I would definitely have to rewire to enable select plinking at least..

thats not the problem, he scored 4 in a row against alioune, so all that spoils is that hes probably going to take game 1 against infiltration. The problem is the trailer showing an akuma mirror... Im gonna be pretty mad if tokido plays luffy after ryan hart cus as a european I was the most hype for the matches with the EU reps. Getting all of them spoiled (cept for alioune vs xian, which was great) would be pretty heart breaking. If you dont do it live at least try your hardest not to spoil anything... Putting huge spoilers in the trailer for the whole thing is pretty much the opposite....

i just found that the range where i could FADC fireball and connect cl.fp was really small. tbh it's not too important to optimize every specific situational combo, but the lk axekick combos from c.mk at max range, so i was just emphasizing it because it's consistent. try it out yourself. look at the max range of his c.mk and then figure out how much of it you have to give up to get a cl.fp after fireball FADC. like, you can whiff punish stuff like ryu's sweep into your cl.fp bnbs if you learn that combo, i think it's really strong and it makes his c.mk much scarier. I use fireball FADC for confirming frame traps, because mp/mk/hp xx hadoken is a true blockstring (mk axekick can be beat out by a reversal in between, maybe not from cl.fp ill check sometime), and in the corner you can do w/e you want so I do fireball FADC combos cuz they're easier LOL

That was a good match.
Akuma mirrors are a bit tame, but Tokido vs Infiltration is a goof storyline.

Not a fan of chat being disabled completely by the way.. I enjoy being a stream monster from time to time.
