I don't think the top tier in this game is even that dominant, but as koogy says, "Life is too short for bad matchups." The US definitely has a real Akuma though, he just doesn't travel You talking about that dude from Texas? I've seen some of his stuff, he's good, but he's no international level threat.

The top tier in this game is not dominant enough to make much of a difference and they have bad matchups against very odd characters. Not to mention an exodus to the top tier will only create technology to foil those characters much faster. Counterpicks will be the future of the metagame.

Yea, FourWude or however it's spelled. He's certainly not as strong as Infiltration, but he's good enough that people can learn the matchup well.
While I agree that top tier isn't that dominant in this game, why play a character with 5+ bad matchups when you could play a character with only 1-2 bad matchups? It's not as big a deal for most players, but if you're a "professional" I feel like you should be giving yourself the best chance to win you can from the character select screen.

The top tier are the characters with the best overall toolsets, not necessarily the characters with the least bad matchups. And their bad matchups don't come against the other top tiers either.
Apparently PR Rog, Dieminion, and Mike Ross are switching to Fei Long. Dieminion will also choose Cammy. Justin is leaning towards Adon. Ricky is leaning towards Cammy.
Finally, a Vega might win a major in the US.

I played with Mike Ross in Dota 2.
That was pretty fun even though we sucked, lol.

Can't imagine Mike being any better than Fanatiq @ Mobas.
FourWude and JR are the closest the U.S will ever get to a decent Akuma. Unfortunately, by the time 2010 hit we already saw how far Tokido and Infiltration are from JR and the rest, and they kept getting further and further away from everyone else.
Mike Ross switching? Yeah right lol. He always tell ppl he's gonna switch... and then it never happen. Honda is his thing. Plus, i double Mike really has time to put into a new character now.
Why no Yuns :/

Hey guys, do you know where that highlight video of all the Japanese players are? It is not a 3 part video and it had a lots of different cool music? I have been trying to look for it for 2 hours (not really) now on YouTube and Eventhubs, I cannot remember the name...

Yun is not top-tier enough now and he will always be deficient for those who remember his AE incarnation.

Wasn't Justin saying on Twitter that he was really enjoying playing Dictator? God that would be sad.
Edit: I also saw that ChrisG is talking about Ryu.

So, i bought this game before i moved to sri lanka, i put it in yesterday and had a go.
Now being someone who is competent at the tekken series (able to pull off moves, combos etc fairly easily with some practice) i expected to be able to do well at this game.
My 12 year old brother in law smashes me with button bashing, I mean WTF. xD
The game plays like an old school 2d fighter from the 90's only nudges forward, no lunges etc its so bloody different to tekken its not even funny. I played arcade on medium and got smashed 25 times by a 3rd match rufus. I feel like a scrub rofl.
Why is it so different :< anyone got tips? I mean, i was good enough to be 3rd dan online in tekken 6, thats pretty decent no? xD
Meh, i think half my issue is trying to play it like tekken, its all ive played since i was young so its sorta defined the way i play fighters (well, that and rival schools that game so OP) bit o practice and i'll be pulling off moves like a goodun. I cant even hit specials atm LOL

haha. Well, in Tekken when you want to do a quarter-circle forward move for example, you do QCF followed by a button. In Street Fighter, you press the button while you're holding the final direction input.
Tekken is really great about teaching footsies and spacing in general. The move properties and system mechanics are quite a bit different, but the fundamentals Tekken teaches apply equally to SF4.

Obviously the problem is that you should be playing ttt2
If you're brand new to SF4 but not new to fighters, learn to anti air. Block low and react to overheads (aka mids), of which there are few and even fewer that lead to real damage. There's a shortcut in SF4 to do shoryukens (F, D, DF input) by just doing DF twice, so if you think someone is about to jump at you, you can hold down forward, and if they do just wiggle to D then DF + button and a shoryuken will come out.
You may find it easier to play a charge character like balrog or guile.

Zeus can destroy those feilongs one at a time :D. With rufus out of the picture this could be a real posibility.

Every time a Vega player punishes a Fei Long for pressing buttons, the world gets a little brighter.

Oh, Yun's still great but nobody is willing to believe that right now. All the talk is about Cammy and Fei Long and Adon and Yun is treated as some sort of bizarre counterpick to Akuma (which he's not). His nerfs from AE were necessary but since he was nerfed, people treat him like he's not tournament-worthy anymore.
|
It seems like the nerfs dropped him from 'the only character that will ever win a tournament' to merely being top tier.
Also, somewhere Yang is crying in a corner.

Mike Ross has a really good Blanka, it's a shame he never plays it in tournaments. It's not a top tier character, but still quite a bit higher than Honda.
