I don't get that impression, though the guessing games he can mount on wakeup seem similarly varied and able to score knockdowns. If not, why isn't it one? Fuerte's does count as a vortex, yes. His whole strength is wakeup ambiguity which is what defines a vortex.

Imagine if someone was playing Starcraft on a trackpad and you told them to switch to a mouse. Would they need to buy some high end gamer mouse right off the bat? I got my HoriVX barely used off craigslist for $30. It is fine, even if I had paid the full msrp $70 I'd be happy with it. It has shown me the fun and benefit of using a stick, despite the frustration of learning how to use it. (I was playing on a keyboard using the numberpad for direction, so I'm not just switching devices I'm switching hands.) I still have a long way to improve until the quality of my stick is what is limiting my play, when I reach that point I'll get something full of sanwa parts. Oh gawd, a "high end" stick costs around $150 - really not a big deal for a controller if you think about it. This is about the cost of a good mechanical keyboard. I'd say it makes sense to just start right off the bat with a good stick.

Vortex characters seem to be the shit in ae2012. Prepare to tear your hair out. See I main Ibuki but play alot of Sakura and man oh man. I can land Sakura a combos about ninety nine percent of the time now but I still screw up the Ibuki vortex and her Tsukmuji loops routinely. Seriously the loops make me want to kill kittens even after months of practicing then.

I really want to get good at this game, and I'm not sure if I can do it as Dan. Does the character really make a difference in how much better you will get. Am I gonna eventually plateau because my character is really bad? What should I do? Stick with him. 2012 Dan isn't going to scrape the bottom of the barrel anymore, and Dan has all the tools you'd need to continuously improve, even of some of them are a bit limited. The path of Saikyo is no cakewalk, but you can probably handle it. =)
