Correct in original Diablo there was no softcore mode per say. Sure you can respawn as many times as you'd like, but you gear doesn't come with you  . Thats why duels where so much fun back then.

I just beat Act 1 in D2, Andariel was easy enough. As of now I have a level 16 Cold Sorceress. Should I move to Act 2 now, or level up some more?
What level would be best to move into each act? Im a complete beginner at this and so I want to try to make sure I dont go into the next area underleveled 
Also, its normal mode, if that matters.

Level 16 is good level to move onto act 2. If you are going through all the quests, you should level enough during the process. If you are making a blizzard sorceress, try to reach level 24 in act 2. You'll breeze through act 3 and 4 once you get blizzard skill on your sorceress.

Well just got PK'd twice in 1 day. Done with HC ladder for awhile.
Not so fun when a lv 85+ teleports in from nowhere and somehow tracks you down and kills you within a minute or so.

Level isn't that big of a deal with casters. Some people have done speedruns where they've beaten normal difficulty with level 18s on youtube. Spells always hit and if you have the right ones, you can dodge and attack at the same time.

Haha ANY time that hostile warning pops up IMMEDIATELY F1, right click, and left click; it takes them only about 5-30 secs to teleport to you from the nearest waypoint. In fact many, if not most people on HC has all that redvex/chicken plugin/hostile TP plugin/etc.
If you haven't got that down then perhaps HC isn't for you

Why can I not choose 800x600 in D2 now?
Did they change something or is there something with windows 7.

Did you in fact install the Expansion Set? Original Diablo 2 only has 640x480

Kinda ruins any experience of HC when you have to worry about hackers hunting you down like that.
HC would still have it's appeal if it wasn't so prevalent.

Also it doesn't play nicely in dual monitors or while alt tabbing, so you have to add -w to the shortcut path if you want to play windowed.

if your using hdmi you have to change to dvi that will fix the problem

this thread has inspired me to play some single player again. the last two times ive gotten back into D2 i just played boring old ladder, leveling using pub baalruns then just MFing and trading. gonna go play some classic single player with some goofy builds or some shit.

I'm currently running a ladder fire sorc on useast after a long time away from the game.
Do we have a system of naming games for teamliquid users? If we don't, I propose the following.
tlnormal // tl
tlnightmare // tl
tlhell // tl
Whenever I'm on I'll be in a game of this name depending on the difficulty I'm in. If we ever need new rooms just add a 1, 2, 3, etc at the end. I hope other people do the same!
