Now imagine them WITHOUT meter restrictions.
She's overpowered, yes, but she comes with her own restriction. Teams with her aren't any more broken than the top tier MvC2 teams like Scrub or Thrax or MSS or Matrix.
Pretty much. If you don't play it you are in no position to complain either.

The problem is that it takes zero skill to build 5 meters and then mash with Phoenix. But to counter her you need to combo into snap and then have an insane mixup game to get her before she can hard tag.
LOL 0 SKILL TO BUILD METER
0 skill get you blown the FUCK UP.

Viscant and Tokido are probably the two best at Phoenix (and Tokido was bounced early on). Tokido plays his Phoenix team in such a way that he is completely unafraid of meter usage or snap-in. Sometimes he plays like a Phoenix team, and sometimes Phoenix is just another character. Sometimes he conserves meter, and sometimes he'll burn it like any other team.
And Tokido is utterly unafraid of having Phoenix snapped in; he'll fight longer with a non-5-bar Phoenix than any other Phoenix player I've seen. He won't panic and hard-tag her out immediately the way some players do it. He'll wait, fight for a bit, find a safe moment, and then get her out.
Viscant's Phoenix team isn't "really" a Phoenix team. It's a Wesker-fucks-your-shit-up team. Phoenix is there to pick up the scraps after you finally find a way to kill his uber-Wesker. Similar to Tokido, Viscant isn't afraid of snap-in. He knows how to stall, and he won't take an unsafe tag-out just to get her out a second faster.
Now, I totally think Phoenix should be nerfed. Even if she is "balanced", she fundamentally changes how players play to a less-interesting form of play. The anti-Phoenix tech brought to EVO was the best around, and it may be better next year, but anti-Phoenix play, no matter how good, just isn't interesting.

It is a percentage of the entry fees. Both games had over 1400 entrants at $10 a piece. Traditionally, winner gets 70% of the entry fees, but since Evo is paying out top 8, it might be slightly less than that. That is a good estimate though.
I'm pretty sure more than just the top 8 get paid.
Also, a significant portion of the prize money comes from sponsors like Madcatz now. Entry fees is just a bonus.

I am betting for Latif to give Daigo a run for his money. Dude has been so solid for months now.

There were 3.5 Phoenix teams, who played a total 22 (might have been 23?) games over 7 matches. Mine in losers R1, F. Champ in winners R1, Viscant in Winners R1, F. Champ in losers R2, Noel in G2 and 3 of losers R2, Viscant in R2, and Viscant in the finals.
Out of those 22 games, a phoenix won I think 12 (I lost track towards the end). Viscant accounts for 10 of those wins.
Out of all those games that a Phoenix team won, Phoenix wasn't even involved in some.
Out of those 7 matches that a phoenix team won, a Phoenix team won 3. Viscant's Phoenix team was the only one who won a single match.
Mine, F. Champ, and Noel (the other Phoenix teams) lost every one of their matches, and won a combined 2 games in all their matches.
Every Phoenix that lost was beaten by a non-Phoenix team (meaning that no Phoenix eliminated another Phoenix).
My conclusion? Phoenix is strong, but counterable. Kind of like every character who is high tier. The only difference is that a few months ago people thought she was completely broken so they learned her and stuck with her, and now they don't want to go back because she's still at least top tier. Viscant didn't win because of Phoenix. He won because he was better today.
Man speaks the truth. Also, Rog just too mentally exhausted for set 2. All his dante acid rain + assist crossups never seen in set2. Bad execution errors as well.
Rog played lights out marvel today. Beating jwong... i mean jesus christ he beat jwong....

Clock's Doom/Ama is so sick, I actually think he'd have done better without Phoenix this weekend, pick up another assist and let his doom drop meter on people.

Thanks. Now that's out of my system I'm over the whole silly argument. Capcom won't change their minds over a TL argument they aren't reading, and I don't think anyone else will either. It's for the better if people take the rational approach and try to solve their problems instead of crying IMBA, but it probably won't happen.
On the bright side, I get a strange satisfaction knowing that that attitude won't get anyone anywhere, because something will always feel broken until effort is put forth to solve it.
And now we can move on to this awesome documentary and hype grand finals for AE! :D
