Hello, I'm starting this thread up because I got some good response in my Blog post about it. Basically I'm going to start up a Liquid clan on the new L2Renewal server that's going live 2nd of April. Link to Linage 2 Renewal
Hellbourn client and guide to installing L2 Renewal After you install the client DO NOT start the linage2.exe or the Linage 2 launcher. Instead, download the auto updater from renewal site. Put the auto updater in your linage2 folder and patch with the auto updater. Then start the game from l2.exe in your system folder.
Would be awesome if you guys could join #Teamliquid.l2 on quakenet. would make communication so much more easy. You can use webchat.quakenet.org if you don't want to install the client just connect and type "/j #teamliquid.l2"
For those of you new to Linage 2, welcome to an epic game with loads of drama and flame. The number one reason I love this game is purely because of the drama this game causes. Shitstorms and flame wars are common occasions and help to fuel the fights in game.
Now that being said this game is and oldie but goldie. It's a game that's been trough a lot and has changed ever since it came out. The game dev's are constantly adding to the game. The game has a typical SK MMORPG graphic style with borderline nude female characters and buff and rough looking males. The game don't got WASD movement as the most new MMORPG's does but uses click to move. This can be frustrating for new players but it really doesn't limit the movement in game. Since this is a private server the grind aspect has been reduced by a lot. Retail Linage 2 is one of the most grind intensive MMORPGS and lot's of players bot there. Although I don't got all the info about the amount of grind needed in this server I can assure you that it won't be that of retail Linage 2.
This game revolve around sandbox pvp. Clan wars and Alliance wide wars is to be expected. There is also Castle sieges and Fortress sieges that occurs on set dates. Non stop action is the best translation for this game, If you are wondering about the pvp system used in this game is that everyone can kill everyone anywhere except towns. Although if you do kill someone with out them being flagged for pvp (you get flagged by hitting another character or if you heal a pvp flagged target friend or foe does not matter) you will get PK status and karma points, your name has 3 states "white" when you are not flagged for pvp or have PK status, "purple" when you are flagged for pvp and "red" when you have PK:ed someone. The only way to remove your PK status is by gaining experience (killing a mob usually is enough if you don't got a big PK record) all pvp kills and PK kills are recorded in numbers (numbers only though, great tool for e-peen fights).
Sawk has released some more info about the customized areas and systems. Click Here for more info
Update
Ok, so we got 1 week to server opening. Time to organize some stuff.
First thing is that comm's are pretty important if you wanna have a good pvp experience, we got a private TS3 server that I would love to have you guys over at, you do not need a mic but please join in for when we pvp. (Makes it so much easier to call targets, assists and such)
We also need to get some info about which classes you guys want to play (You are free to play what ever you want of course) . We are planing some pvp parties and got 1 mage party setup right now and we will tailor the rest to the classes you wanna play.
So I'm gonna send you all a pm with TS3 info and such.
Some very basic archer info for those who don't know which you want to play
So far we have some archers so it will fit really good with more. The human is the all-around with good stun resist good hp/cp and good damage output. Got a good trigger called counter dash which makes you insanely fast.
The elf one is the fast one with high critrate and high attackspeed. It got insane kite capabilitys and also got a good trigger which makes it very important in partys.
The d.elf one is a glasscannon. Low hp/cp avrage speed and lower attackspeed. Huge damage bursts and crit dmg is insane. The trigger it got is the worst of the three archers but the pure damage it puts out is insane. for solo pvp or small group pvp this one is the worst of the three.
Mage's are obviously great dps but are pretty squishy. They often got loads of de-buffs and weaken skills which makes them really usefull for pvp party's.
Archers has the most steady dps and makes for great pvp party's. Relays on good main targeting and everyone being able to assist.
Daggers have really high burst damage with backstab and other blows, really good for knocking out healers but is hard to keep up as a healer for cause they run so fast and easily get out of heal range.
Then there are tank's and other hybrid dps classes such as Gladiators/Tyrants/Titans/warlord and of course tanks which can fill more purposes then just pure dps. Tanks usually have "cubics" heals and great debuffs. All which are nice to have in addition to a normal pure dps party.
Some great additional info from wassbix. Thank you.
Some L2 Info I thought I'd post for all the new people
Gear upgrades:
Life Stones - these stones are enchants on your weapon that gives them either A) Stats (crit, dodge, etc sometimes weight limit increases!!!) B) Active buff/Active Skill/Active random shit (Fireworks woooooh) C) Passive buff D) For all the sociopaths - prevents your weapon from dropping
Higher lvl will affect the +stats ceiling and level of the active/passive Grade will give you a higher chance for better augs (random as hell and not really reliable, mass of mid grade lvl 76 stone will be more useful than a few high grade)
This is a simple system if you're in it for open pvp, gets bit more complex for Olympiad
You either want might/focus for fighters / empower/wild magic for nukers / bishops either go for def or celestial shield active (short invul skill they already have but now they get two) / Summoners either get a active nuke for ghetto nuker / heal for ghetto healer / might for ghetto dps / fireworks for cheerleading
SA or special ability -
C grade and above weapon have 3 special ability such as (acumen, empower, focus, etc) depending on the weapon type and who its for. This is a big big boost to the weapon. Bishops must get an acumen SA / nukers acumen/empower (your call bigger mcrits or more stable dps) / focus for archers/daggers / health or acumen for tanks (depends on the tank, phoenix knight want the cast speed for their heal)
Depending on the server, you either just buy it / its a drop/ you have to grind (this is lineage 2 after all!) lvl 0 SA crystals by killing certain mobs and absorbing their "soul".
level of the SA crystal depends on the weapon grade, oh and everytime you absorb it has chance to fail (eh aint that bad) and chance to fail AND blow up (FUUUUUUUUUUU)
Int - Magic damage / magical debuff land rate Str - Physical damage Con - Max Hp / Cp (Cp is like HP pool but pvp only, eats thru CP then HP) / Stun resists Dex - Crit / Atk spd / Move speed Wit - Casting speed / All cc resists except stun and resist debuffs Men - Mdef, Max mdef, resistance to stuff that reduce your mdef and resists (least valuable stat)
Tattoos give you 3 slots to shift them around (variation of +1/-1 to +4/-4) Each classes have different tattoos they can use and they are listed in the official site i believe
Basically, Bishops go all out +con/-str or dex + +wit/-men Fighters have bit more freedom on balance of glass cannon or sturdiness Tanks go either +con/-dex or str and +wit+int / -men Casters go all out +int +wit / -men
you buy em with Ancient Adena that drops from a hobo dwarf
Nobless is obtained from a quest chain involving couple raid bosses, it lets you make CP pots and gives you the nobless buff (you can revive once without losing any buffs) This is very crucial as it completely dictates the longevity of your pvp group. A Bishop with nobless is worth around 2-3 bishops in terms of effectiveness in real open field pvp.
Heroes - The ultimate in e-peen technology. For every single class that exists in the game, there can be a single hero. They get special hero spells which are actually OP as fuck (Massive increase in atk/increase in def/AOE fear/AOE debuffs).
Also they get OP hero weapons they can buy and they have some insane modifiers (remove buffs on crits etc). Though how OP they are depends on enchant rates, if its high a +16 X weapon will be better, if everyones running around in low S +6 weapons then yeah it will be pretty OP.
You obtain it by participating in 1v1 honour duelz in the Olympics that open daily at certain hours and at the end the highest point class becomes a hero. Before you get excited about showing everyone your 1v1 skills, becoming a hero is completely dependent on gear / clans feeding each other kills / being a class that no one plays / luck
A) Only self buffs are allowed. so decent selection of weapon aug for depending on what you need B) Alots of weapon aug actives (a buff/ maybe a nuke/a heal/a celestial shield/a recharge) C) Lot of elemental armour set - a sps? water resist set, etc etc D) over-enchanted - no gear limit so better geared you are better off you are E) no consumes allowed and this is the only small window that actual player skills matter - mana drain a guy run around in circles with pet out for 6 minutes
Just a little addition to the hero guide, cause I think I was being too harsh on the system. Although, most of it is gear based (especially over enchanting), the weapon aug system does allow for some creativity and can be fun. In general, Daggers/Archers/Mages are mostly gear + luck based but summoners, support/tanks, orcs allows a bit more freedom.
Daggers/archer/mages dont really have room for much, they walk in buffs themselves with whatever augs and just nuke -> whoever has higher dps or lucky crits wins.
More strategic example would be an Orc Destroyer purposely setting his Hp to 30% from the start (you can do this with weapon SA/Aug changing) and secretly starting the fight frenzied. Then, when in range, quickly switching to a bow vs an archer/mage and hope to end it in 1-2 trades since otherwise you'd get kited to death.
Though the funniest thing I've seen done in oly was a pally that went cloth vs mages and spam mana drain while in UD and then just run around in circles with a comedy 2-h sword and beat them to death.
So it can be fun, if you can handle variance (crit crit crit crit) and you can put in the time to get the gear. Also, you'd be beast versus zerg clans cause the AOE fear land rate is stupidly high (unless they changed it).
Update: To get memebership and you have under 50 posts I'd like to see some dedication. Please join mIRC channel and pm me there to get ts info and to be added to the clan list. There are many people that wants to join and many who just made their account just for this event. Please understand my concern and hop in on IRC.

Crests Feel free to make your own. Dimensions are 24x12. Will put up a poll about which one we will use when we get a couple.
Here's some pvp vids for you who like to watch that before you try a game.
Quantium Base (These dudes will be playing on this server)
Wow, brings back old memories....very weird seeing this on Team Liquid, but I guess it is a big korean game (funny I was reading the Economist today and saw Lineage 2 mentioned in it as well).... I played in Uprising under the character Kularus (my char can be seen in the main PvP grp in alot of the fights in the Uprising vid linked in the OP), epic times and an epic game :D, have fun on the private server! xp boosts are definitely necessary, grinding out .25% in an hour with the most stacked XP group possible wasn`t always fun, at least I played the most lazy PvE class possible .

Wow, nice to see an old uprising player here on TL. Mad props to you and your ally. Yeah, hopefully botting won't be necessary on this server since the exp rates are pretty high.
Since im lazy and cant bother to read their homepage any more, how is this private server going to be different then the 9000 before it?
Ive played loads of L2 on a heap of different private servers, but none of them have really been very good, either problems with the emu or lags, or invasion of BR's
L2Renewal was previously one of the, if not the biggest private server out there, even pulling alliances from retail if I recall. The server last time did not shut down because of any lagg or bad server protection, it was in fact one of the best servers (lag wise) I have ever played on. Also the server is not a L2J emulation, it's official files.
Zerg's are something you always will encounter and is nothing you can do about. There's only one way and that is to simply slaughter them. Numbers do not win battles although it helps.
Used to play this like batshit crazy once upon a time. Nowadays I lack the time (and patience) to play this in any remotely competitive manner so joining a clan is most likely out of the question. I had however pondered on checking up on the current state of the game so perhaps I'll pay the server a visit. Maybe I'll catch a glimpse of you guys as you make your way to the top. Best of luck! :D
Anyone know what classes are the most OP in this version of the game?
I played back in the chronicle when Archers were super imba, loved my hawkeye. Also played on the chronicle that had super OP mage classes. Maybe they've succeeded with the balance now lol
LMAO @ the picture sums up alot of L2 experiences. but yeh since i quit WoW and all that shits, ill probebly check this out. and i saw rates are like 50x exp? that makes for a pretty light grind, verry doable.
i was soo addicted to overenchanting, cant wait todo that again overenchanting dark screamers to +10, making them into those mage swords = profit. (used to be anyway :p)
but i mostly played LONG LONG ago, when archers were the shit, rolling with a full buffed group + Bishop/EE owning groups 5 times your size, it... was... legendary.
I used to play on the RageZone server a few years ago, I might look into this server, sounds pretty awesome. Never was competitive on the server, but I was part of a pretty cool clan for a while. Of course, the problem on the RZ server was the damned russians. They would only speak russian, kill you at a moment's notice, and even ended up DDOSing the server and such when we got pissed at them.
The chronicle is Hellbound and is pretty mage heavy, although archer party's and dagger party's are doable. We have not yet decided what to roll with. The gm's on this server are currently doing a closed beta and balancing out minor balance changes. Such as if the AOI buffer should have all reistance buffs or you need to box (have to clients running) Prophet SWS and BD and pony/cat buffers.

Of course you can catch up it's a 100x server where leveling won't be a problem. The only thing you might notice is noblesse/subclass Olympiad difference. But that's also something you can catch up with anyway
Im interested i never played on this server when i was into lineage 2 retail and some of the originally popular private servers. My big questions is this one of those servers were donators have ridiculous gear and make it unplayable for the average gamer? Some of the servers i rolled on were ruined by people spending a couple hundred bucks to auto win group pvp/olympiad.

I'm typing from my phone so excuse me for typo's. This server have no donations for any gear. You can buy up to s-grade in game and have to craft or raid for better weapons. What you can donate for is noblesse in game, AIO buffer (all in one), and custom accessory that don't influence the game. So no +16 weapons from the get go. Everyone starts with equal gear and level.
I've been lurking around teamliquid for a year or more. Made an account to say that I'd love to play. I played on ragezone/gold and such. Ill probably roll a DA as main. Any forum for the Liquid clan or anything along the lines?
OMG getting new computer tomorrow so finally I can play games on high graphic, so I'm defently up for this. Did only play casually to lvl45 on 'real' server, a fucking grind fiesta, but the game bring back so many noob memories lol.
Soooooooooo, should I download the Hellbound Client from their site and install it from that or woot? I got no clue
Oh, someone else from RZ? Nice. Never knew whether the ragezone server was all that popular or not (every game has it's own measure of what is popular) so I wasn't expecting to see anyone else who played there. I only joined near the end, right before it went down permanently. Never got very far, and I've been looking for something other than SC to spend some time on. Never got into the PvP when I was on the RZ server, so it'd be cool to get the chance now on a good server.
That's one of my favorite things about it. Obviously there's zergs everywhere, but small elite groups could definitely hold down and dominate certain areas. That could sort of happen in WoW (less in BC and less in WotLK and less in Cata) but since world PvP vanished, it became useless.
advertising for a private server of a pay2play mmorpg still not closed?
also L2 is the definition of grind and the game itself has become worse with every chronicle since the addition of CP pots, melee buffs, kamael, now retarded teleportation and stealth trash...

oh yea thats so fun when you spent a month grinding 10 hours a day and of 5 set pieces you only manage to make boots and those aren't even masterpiece to make up for it. It was fun when you spend your time on getting the stuff and then crafting b grade back in the day. S80+ is just a joke. and that they made it DROP in CT2 instead of craft only was a huge insult to everybody who worked on it for LONG LONG times.
Literally.
And don't come here with high rates fixing that, high rates just mean that everybody gets everything in no time and dedication doesn't pay off. And the lucky fucks will have a +16 weapon instead of just a +10.

and ... i think i'm going to stop, rather.

That is one truth there is to L2. If you have skill and teamwork, your high lvl party can take out at least 3 parties of some random br zerg of equal lvl and equip. But they usually have 10 :E we used to literally run out of mana pewing the other guys, ending a fight with 50 kills more to our side and still losing the spot as they just keep coming and/or ressing midfight when the XP loss from death doesn't have an impact b/c its lol highrate.

I'm sorry if you don't like it but some of us do, the dev's got it pretty much balanced out in this server, although no server is perftect.

Epic indeed. Until you start grinding your dwarf. Then it's just painful.
Either way, I didn't expect to see this big an interest for the grand old game. Now I most certainly have to get my ass there. Like, this thread alone has more err..decent people than most servers I've seen.

Real easy, since the rates are high you can get to endgame in a couple hours(atleast that's how it used to be). The rates are high because it's a PvP server, so the server is all about clan warfare and cool shit like that.
on the topic of themes, dion has the best theme by far lol

Sounds pretty good? Any links to a run down on classes or whatever and how I install? I think I might give this a go. Will the MS be bad from the UK?
L2 used to be my favorite game ever ^^ Private servers > retail as well. I played mostly on l2escape, l2extreme, l2supreme and then l2vendetta. GM'd on extreme and vendetta and whenever I see people playing this game it makes me miss it soooo bad but I won't let myself play it again as it'll never be like before D: Coincidentally though, my clan that went from server to server was called "uprising" ^^

Private servers are fun, but its a joke to say they were better than retail. Private servers weren't even close in terms of drama and politics. Dying on retail when you were lvl 70+ actually meant something since it tooks hours to farm again.

The Hours to farm thing is the reason I could not play on retail. To much grinding!
i have played private servers many times including helping run/play on l2revenge for a while. what are the rates gonna be. been looking for a new server to start up on since then. <3 the castle sieges and open pvp

Its rather the official servers being worse than the private ones being "better".
If NC Soft had actually cared for this game, supported it, kicked out bots, farmers, ebayers, made reasonable expansions after c4 it may have turned out different. As things stand, some private servers still have far better support and rules for their game than NC Soft in 2011. There are established and well known large private servers that have worse drama than good old bartz.
Alas, Death being meaningful is one of the things i truly missed on privates, even if the rate was only 4x. Such a joke, even before vitality.
I played on L2 back in 2005/2006. The game is a such a grind but I think it's a fun kind of grind. I played on private servers but it definitely wasn't as bad as retail. Anyone play on Hellspawn back in 2004/2005/2006? That was some good times. I played on other private servers too but donator items ruined some of the fun in it.

Those were some good times. Anyone else play some of these pimp servers?
Edit: Got a couple youtube links of some pvp from my guild:
Pro, got some friends that gonna try aswell, 3 new ppl and one hardcore that was hero class (or smth) for really long time on retail, but he's some sceptic cause he never played on private and think rates is lame, but he will give it a try lol.

There was more then enough Drama. The top private servers have had on going community's for years with the top guilds known by everyone. Your confusing high rates with the top low rates which were actually more populated than the majority of retail servers. The top privates had better support, better community, and dieing still mattered. Not to mention that 99% of all EXP on retail was botted anyways, and on privates even if the rate was 5x you had to play yourself. The insane grind for XP kinda stopped in recent years anyways, with vitality and just general exp rate increase, easier to solo now etc etc.

The only thing that might be lame is that you only need to farm quests/S ++ grade items. But still, drama and pvp rock in Lineage 2. Cant wait.
Edit. Who has the most experience running a guild? Being a guild leader is a taunting task. I know I've been one.
So tempting to pick this up again. L2 was a really good experience for me. I played various betas and then prelude->c3 on siegh in Tempest and later Catalyst. When server transfers came around I made a small comeback when catalyst moved to bartz and join up with uprising.
The most problematic for me would probably get used to the point and click movement again after playing wow/aion and getting used to wasd movement :/
But nothing really beats the political system that L2 has except for maybe Eve but no currently made MMO can ever compete with the sheer epicness of totally playerdriven content that comes from people just wanting what other people have :D

I'm happy to see so many scandinavians playing lineage. I've had the best experience with'em. Oh and hoob, you get use to click-and-move pretty fast. A day at most. I'm counting the hours till Renewal.
A friend of mine always get glassy eyed when thinking back on L2, something about dual damascus blades or w/e (he rolled on some kind of private server named Dragon-something, had the only pair).
I will ask him if he wants to relive some memories and if he does he and I will join in.
Man Lineage 2.... It still has some of my favorite moments in an MMO.... I played during beta and some retail, then left the game for a year to start playing F2P...
It's honestly one of the most fun games even though so many people thought it was so bad because of the grind. It still has some of the best looking armor compared to most MMOs...
I really can't decide if I should invest the time into it or not. lol
Oh man, watching those Uprising videos was awesome. Used to play with those guys when the game first came out.. Such nostalgia. Shame no better games have come out since then.
Do you take total noobs in your Clan? I have never played this but it sounds like a lot of fun, so will definitely give it a try. i cant promise that i go total hardcore, but normally if i like a game,i am quite dedicated
Could You add to OP some basic information, like rates, clan hall bid time, chronicle etc? Ehh L2 is fun but i am worried i will not have enough time to play it Still please provide this info that would be very usefull.
I might see you guys on the server, some ppl might know me from some older servers such as paradise, nanaki, celes, renewal,USSR 15x, and 5x, and alot of other ones, but im probably gonna play the weekend it opens after that :S:S who knows, said I quit l2 after rpg club 5x burned out so chances are ill only play first weekend.

Not so hard to get the main info to the OP either, right?
Not to mention some of the people that wanna play might have no idea of which are the important informations to look for, so you could grab them and throw in the OP.
It would be better for you (looking for clan mates) and them (finding the info easier)

Or maybe the OP who is inivting us to play will provide those? Because those information are important and its better to be included in OP so X number of peeople dont have to look for them themselves?

I could easily add that but for new players it would not make that much off a difference since they got nothing to compare with anyway. High rate should be enough info.
I know someone mention that some of the bosses are instanced now. Anyone have any idea how many bosses they instanced?
That seriously was one of the most enjoyable things about Lineage 2, being able to fight over raid bosses and controlling those zones. I know on free servers it changes a little bit, I haven't been able to look at the site yet, because at work.
Well, you can still fight over them as far as i know it's just that the lair or what ever the boss is inside got a teleport device to a special room or something like that. The new "instance" came with the Freya chronicle i think which should not be implanted on this server yet. I'm not 100% sure though

You kidding me? if they do that, where does the fun come from?
I know the pvp is where the fun comes from, but fighting for something (raid jewels) had some motivation behind it, not like fighting for... pvp points?
I mean, you can brag about how many pvp points you have, but if the whole purpose of the serve is to have pvp points, then its kinda boring if you don't have anything else to be better at (like having the rare jewelry, castles, gh, etc)
So, is this client compatible (assuming you make the necessary changes to log in) with other private servers (if they don't have their own custom client). I'd kinda like to find a server to get re-acquainted with the game so I have some idea of what to do when I start out when Renewal comes online...
Depends on the server, some are not up to date with the recent chronicles, but if you do some research im sure you'll find some server thats compatible.
I'm all sorts of down for this. I was 8 time hero on L2 Vendetta if you're heard of it, member of the uprising there, and leader of a fairly successful clan. Please sign me up!
Alright, sign me up. Also a member from uprising on L2 Vendetta, mainly an OL specialising in seiges, but also a pvp paladin or SK. Anyone from L2v would know me as one of the most active siege OLs for almost 3 years.
Hey, i used to play on L2Extreme, L2vendetta for a few years and i played some L2Hadean. this looks like it will be a lot of fun so, sign me up please!
If theres anyone from L2v here Kaervek is actually endrek from uprising, and tayko is yue from the same clan :D

this seems like a great idea and i'd love to join the clan. i probably plan to play a healer, whichever one we need the most at the time. i played quite a lot from c1-c3 and a little bit in c5.
yeah quite a long time until it goes online... should prolly get refreshed on the skill on some other server until then though, noticed one of the old servers I used to play on were still going, eternal sin l2
I was trying to think of the last server I played on and it was Eternal Sin. Nice to see it is still around, I might roll on it to get used to the game again and all the skills.
been playing on and off for ~6 years. Started on officials then moved to Dune, Eternal Sin, Aerith, Celes, RPG-Club....
I'll probably play, so add me to the list. Is this going to be some hardcore clan made up of CPs? L2 isn't very fun when you get roflstomped by the nolifers/botters....
I'm gonna play this but I'm MAD noob at this game my experience is limited to the first 10 levels as some sort of warrior class quite a few years back. Looks fun but I'll definitely need someone to help me out :D
please enlighten me as i am ignorant on the subject, coming from an old wow player (was top10 in my battleground during tbc when the pvp was decent) and from my point of view the pvp doesnt look that exciting. is the pvp based on your skill or just mostly on level/items? how much grinding is involved etc. im looking for a good pvp mmo to get into so please convince me if this game fits the bill and we will have lots of fun playing together.

WoW players generaly have a hard time with L2, or maybe that's just my experience from wow players :p. First major thing is that this is a click to move game and you can't jump around which may make the game seem slow. But that's not really the case, with no wasted movement and good group dynamics the game gets really fast. Since the party's exist of 9 members instead of the usual 5 the damage out put can be pretty high if damage dealers are a little bit experienced. Assisting targets is critical in this game.
My best advice for you would be to hop in game, get some levels. (max level should only take some hours on this server) and then join up for some group pvp.

l2 has a very diverse amount of classes making the games pvp pretty deep while staying relatively simple to play, Click to move and attack with skills + using potions etc. Characters are very customizable between tattoos, gear sets skill enchanting and subclassing and many other things im probably forgetting.
The game itself is more about its group pvp, castle sieges + clan wars require good part makeup and a lot of teamwork to be good at. The best part about l2 is all the wars you fight are caused by the actions of player politics for server dominance, you fight because you want to beat each other or just plain dislike another clan making for a lot of drama, rivalries and lots of awesome pvp.
The main thing that draws me is that you can fight anyone for whatever reason, not because of preset factions made by the game developers. I could PK your clan members and cause an entire war if i wanted to, thats what makes the political aspect of pvp so much fun, everything you do matters.
As for grinding, its a private server so it will probably have multiplied EXP rates to make up for the huge grind. On some of the midrate servers an experienced player can max a character in a day easily.
Have you guys ever noticed how many unique little quirks the Lineage 2 communities tend to have as opposed to for example WoW (or hell, Starcraft). L2 has it's very own little culture.
Like, everything was always straight up business. I don't think I ever got to know someone "outside" of the game through L2. But perhaps that's the mindset you need to be successful. :D
Also, over time I noticed it became a custom to use as subtle (and short) names as possible (ex: pr0, l0l, h4t). I mean, compare this to BW/SC2 where most people seem to strive to have a unique and personal name. And best(?) of all, I think L2 is the only game I've played where I've seen real hate for another player. Not just rivalry but downright hate.
I've got a hard time not getting nostalgic when it comes to this shit. :D

I haven't played WoW, but L2 PvP is awesome. Or used to be, back when I played. Level and items had a GREAT importance on the PvP, but since it's a private server, you will be max level and the items will probably be sold in shops.
So it will probably come down to party organization and skill. How good the healers are to maintain their party alive while the damage dealers focus fire the important players of the other team.
It requires good communication (for huge battles like Castle Sieges, you could do very well in small fights with no communication as long as your party has a good knowledge of the game).
...but since it's a private server, you will be max level and the items will probably be sold in shops.
actually from what I've read there won't be any high grade item shops, but the economy is custom built, so probably still farming but less harsh and life consuming then the official servers I reckon?
I am temporary bored so i decided to share some wisdom with you. Especially for those starting their adventure with l2, please remmber those guidelines are not absolute truth, some of it may change from server to server, dpending on chronicle, or clan style. Your CL might want You to do things differnt way, You should listen to him. Anyway......
BUFFS! L2 is all about buffs, dont even think about fighting without it, you will lose, for sure, even in greater numbers. Dont try, realy! I mean it!
What buffs do you need? It depends on your class and role you have in your party/alliance. More experienced player will explain it to you with details. One thing is sure, you need Bleesing of The Noblees, (If Your Alliance/clan has it), you should always fight with it. What does it do? Simple, when you are killed u lose all your buffs, you can be ressurected and still take part in fight, but you are pretty much useless (as YOU HAVE NO BUFFS) thats why u need Bleesing of nobless, if u have it, you only lose it when you die, and when you are ressurected you are ready to fight again.
In mass pvp u will be probably killed, perhaps multiple times, thats normal, its not about how many times you die, its about your side winning engagment, so when you fall just patienlty wait for ressurect, dont port back to town.
Back to buffs, how important it is? Just imagine you have 9 people in party, and its archers party. How many archers should be in it? 4! Yes four, the other five people are suport for them ( if you play on server that has NPC buffers just ignore this part). Thats the proper way to set up archer party: Warcryer, Swordsinger, bladedancer, warlock, and bishop +4 x archer. That setup beats like infinite number of archers without buffs. I am serious.
While in party, always do what you supposed to do, damagedealer attack, bishop heals and ressurects, and so on.... Always follow your party leader orders, and stay close to him. Always attack same target (use assist button from the button list), just target your party designated targeter and assist him.
If Your clan use clancraft hand every usefull mats and keys to clan warehase, you will get you gear much faster this way, belive me, clancraft is always faster than solo craft. But again it depends on specific clan and its rules.
CP pots, you will probably need program to spam cp pots if server allows it. Always cary LOST AND LOTS of cp pots with you.
Teamspeak and or vent is kinda obvious.
War is good for you and your clan, it makes you stronger and better, it makes lineage great game. If You can attaned sieges and epic monster fights do it its always fun.
everything what silvanel said basically, I'll add to that; drama was what made L2 great, make alliances to team up against a bully alliance, then become the bully alliance, raise taxes for shops and everyone will hate you, on the other hand, make sure your manor system (gain extra mats while fighting mobs in that area) works well and no one will contest your control of the castle as people are satisfied.
try not to grind alone too much as grinding with a full 9 man party on vent will always be the most enjoyable (tough solo grinding with an out of party buffgroup will always be the most optimal)
woo actually found some old banners/pics I've made way back: + Show Spoiler +
hmm, i might pick this up. i havent played l2 for about a year now but i got about 2-3 years of experience playing it. I stopped l2 in the first place because there weren't any good servers, either it was a donating server, full of brs, or unbalanced. What are the rates for this server? 1x?
You can find almost all needed information in ma previous post (not the one about basics of l2, but the one before that), rates are x100 x50 dunno bout drop rates.

Any suggestions for a class? I was a hero DA but I'm not sure how it would fair on a pvp server. I was thinking about a healer because I've never played one seriously. But seeing as we have a mage party, might go for an archer? And if an archer, which one? A dark elf glass cannon? Speedy elves? Boring humans? :C
Jibba - PW Bloodlash - cardinal, archer or SH TheAntZ - wanna play loads of different stuff XD Mayuu - OL GirfnE - Necro Apathetic - SPS Kuro1n - SPS Jive - Bish Deven - Bish barth - PR soullogik - ranger, dark avenger, overlord, caster. Amalaxi - OL Tomken - PR keit - elf or DE mage, or a human/DE archer Clow - Bish/OL:ish Milkyst - Whatever is needed
If we are going through with an archer party we could use a HE and a SR for the triggers. OL's are always appreciated for the CP heals and bishes will always be needed. Pick what ever you want. Everyone should be able to play what they want to ensure it's fun
This looks awesome! Please add me to the list my character name will be some version of "Brent". Not sure what class I will play just yet but probably some sort of archer as that is what I played in retail and on l2 escape back in the day. April 1st cant come soon enough now.
I'm in. I've always played dps but for this server I guess I'll give tank a try. maybe a DA or SK?
Just wondering, is this server going to become one of those starwars glowy archer/dagger servers and all fights are decided by who has the better bishop? Or did the GMs have any plans to make mages/tanks more useful (basically how they decide to deal with cancels)
I can go EE. recharge ftw. also what's up with this? i tried playing on eternal sin just to get a feel for the game again but the l2.exe is coming up as a virus. is that standard?

False-positive. And EE is pretty useless on highrate servers, since you've got 1h+ buffs at AIO NPC buffers.

QB Player here.
It isn't if you don't have mana potions.
Trance/Mana Burn/Mass Mana Burn/Recharge are really good during long fights.

From what i've read, the dev has made the enchant rates lower then retail on this server. He stated that he did not wan't a starwars server.

I'll get to that when I get home. For the AIO buffers, not all resistance buffs are included. I'm not sure tho. Buffer classes are great in oly with most of them having some kind of hp drain or mana drain and auguments make them like super nukers in oly.

We got some different DPS classes in L2.

Interesting. What do the hybrid DPS classes have as their secondary? Like I said, I've never really done any MMO PvP before, so while I understand the basic function of some of the different roles, every game is unique in how its PvP really plays out, and I'm not sure which class I'd have the most fun with.
I'm used to playing stuff like WoW and all sorts of other MMOs, but I've almost always solo'd my way through PvE, which is a completely different approach than PvP. Especially the fact that I was basically always soloing everything. You had to make yourself as survivable as possible, and everything else was secondary.
If anyone needs info about classes or something, don't hessitate to ask.
Well I'd like to be some sort of DPS, I think, but I rely don't know what classes fill that role. I never got a chance to PvP when I played L2 on the Ragezone server, and I've never really played much PvP in any MMO.
We got some different DPS classes in L2. Mage's are obviously great dps but are pretty squishy. They often got loads of de-buffs and weaken skills which makes them really usefull for pvp party's.
Archers has the most steady dps and makes for great pvp party's. Relays on good main targeting and everyone being able to assist.

Gladiators and Tyrants use charge systems. Which basically lets you charge up and unleash attacks by paying in charges. Tyrans are a bit more depending on crits and Gladiators use brute power with their attacks
Titan's use 2h-swords and have huge amounts of hp and cp. When they go below 30% hp they can activate frenzy and zealot which causes them to one hit about anything but tanks.
Warlords uses poles and have huge aoe stuns, it's kind of a semi-tank dps. I've never really experimented with it except for farming with it.
I played a warlord on vendetta, ripped shit apart since it was a bit modified (war cry and some other skill were buffed like crazy). You're basically a one man army with all your hp recovery skills and aoe damage
On March 27 2011 02:50 TheWarbler wrote: I used to play a glad back in c2 and I usually ripped apart alot of classes. But in HB are they any good?
As far as I know they've always been borderline op, depending on the player behind the character of course. Their burst is pretty nuts and they use heavy armor. Like a dagger with extra hp.
Archers are the easiest and simplest class to play for being effective in a group fight. Long as you can coordinate with other archers. They are also the most gear/buff dependent as they rely on crit procs to out damage healers.
Dark elf archer has the highest burst which scales to insane levels with gear (this is very important in killing healers) but also the squishiest, human archers tend to be the tanky and deal very good damage but they are rather slow and their dps skill root them, the elf archer is the best 1v1 character as they are the fastest (they will just kite you forever) but they have lower damage so its less effective in a team fight.
Healers, they are the highest skill class to play in pvp. Whether your group wins a small to medium group fight completely depend on a good bishop. The difference between a good healer is day and night. They can cleanse debuffs, they get a small invul to save whoever is the target of focus, and if they get nobless they can revive + nobless buff and keep people going forever.
Mages, Tank, Hybrid dps are all pretty tricky classes for private servers. They tend to be very strong in low-med gear servers (especially mages) but they can be useless if the server has high enchant rates and if they dont allow cancels (spells that remove buffs, people tend to whine about this and lot of bad servers remove them)
Generally they dont scale well as daggers/archers with gear, in terms of damage. Also, the debuff land rate depends on how enchanted the enemy ring/earring/necklace is, which makes them weaker as gears get more enchanted. But since we have no information on enchant rates we'll have to wait and see.
But as someone said pvp in this game is all buffs and removing an acumen (casting speed buff) and then landing a paralyze is ultimately what will bring down a good healer.
L2-Renewal is a server mainly focused on pvp with a small touch of pve, with the aim to create mass pvp in the farming area and bosses.
thats what the website are saying. Last time i played on renewal they had a kinda sweet farming system in imperial tomb. They made the mobs abit harder then retail, you had to farm like 5000 am heads to be able to make an Arcana mace, as most the ppl here already know weapons break kinda easy ^^, so there is gonna be alot of farming from the start and we will have to pvp to keep our spot. And if we do have ppl for epic raids like baium, Queen Ant, Antharas we for sure are gonna try that aswell. Bet sawk have some intressting stuff in mind. Just becaus its a high rate its not gonna be easy mode
Sorry if the newbi english. did my best to explane
Damn been thinking about this a lot lately and im getting so hyped i have not played l2 in forever, im working on trying to get some of my friends in on it for more people ^_^.

It looks like they have a couple custom zones specifically for farming that we could try and control

If you need paralyze that has like 1% chance to land on a bishop with normal A grade gear to kill him, your doing something wrong.
Also, what makes mages ''weak'' isn't enchants. Mainly because you can also just enchant your weapon aswell. What makes them ''weaker'' are all the resist buffs available in the higher end levels. If anyone buffs no Berserkers Spirit, and gets even 1 resist buff, then mages damage gets weakened by alot.
But it is because of balance. Mages can also M.crit which isn't that rare if you have full buffs and correctly working system. (Some P.servers didn't have m.crits.) And if you meet a mage with full buffs and you yourself have full buffs with B.spirit and no resist buffs, (except for the standard m.resist buffs) expect to get nuked for 800-1200 each 0.7 second, which hurts alot.
Just curious, what happened to EE in PvP? I played when Bishops were considered fairly weak, so the mana regen and casting time of EE's generally made them the best PvP healers. Did group healing just take over?
Also, it looks like we're going to need more tanks/buffers. o.o

Using PZ as an example of cc on a healer in retrospect is horrible haha.
Anyone have any idea how common boss jewels / cancel is going to work in this server?
might play a HE/SR or a Bishop, really depends which one people need more.
I haven't played Lin2 in a very long time, so it would take some learning time for Bishop. More tempted to go for Bishop, because judging from other PS i have played the healers decide the outcome of most fights.

Healing in l2 (depending on the server and gear levels) is quite challenging and fun, definitely the pivotal class in pvp, along with the overlord :D

Pretty much mid/high rate i have played has mostly archers/nukers for sieges, its just way easier to use ranged groups, kind of annoying playing something like a dagger and evaporating before you get close to anything.

Probably during sieges, there's always archer parties and such. We'll just have to wait and see when we get in game. Archer parties are by no means invincible tho.

Has its uses when you're playing unorganised zergs, I remember in aden siege we were defending and I went around with my AW murdering stragglers that were trying to rally near the castle instead of at the town itself. And with trick/bluff/etc its really annoying to a bishop. Add a tank to that and their bish will be confused senseless

Why run something else normally though if you're getting 3hour buffs and dances? Maybe in some small PvP settings daggers might one or two shot something, but the weakness of archers in retail is that they're buff dependent so their groups are slightly weakened just by needing the buffers. If you've got a 1 healer/rest archer group, you'll have the best PvE group and you'll have 8 people capable of 4-5k crits for PvP.
A hero tanker, who was evas, this time I might go shillien templar.
I am just worried about moonstone grinds... I hate becoming nobless...
I need to know few things first. Will we have an AIO? it really sucks grinding without AIO. and you said everyone starts off from scratch lvl1 right? that is good. For months, A/S gears and moonstones will be so overpriced.. haha
Also, I dont remember ever dying from archers.. Tankers will have deflect arrow with insane pdef, as well as CP pots, you wont even lose HP to archers in PvP, the only thing is, archers are faster, and if Arrest doesnt work well, its a pain for tankers to catch up to archers and hit them.. and they evade a lot too..

All buffs don't got 3h duration. I think the high end Songs/dances cat pony and kamael buffs are very shorter. Archer parties are not THAT op.

Me Jive and GirfnE will donate for atleast one AIO. If you guys wanna contribute with an additional one feel free. We will also level up the other necessary buffers.
I dont understand the concept of this personal aio buffer. All the pserv i played (some years ago), there were some custom npc in towns with all the buffs and for everyone.
So whats with the donations ? they create a npc for you ? I'm lost :p
ps : count me in - Shura : dont know the class yet
edit : i'm on their irc chan (l2-renewal on some strange server lol) so...

Personal AIO Buffers, IF you customize for all buffs, includes all buffs you might need all in one.
ALL IN ONE buffer, you see? chanter buffs, sing buffs prophet buffs, queen buffs and etc. I am guessing NPC buffers only give limited buffs. For instance, the pserv i played in didnt have many of the important buffs that i needed (such as GMight or GShield)
Also, with AIO, you can customize your buff list, with Macro! so you party the AIO and just use the macro, and ur fully buffed. mind you, you cannot chat until macro is finished!
Thats the way high rates roll, its not for everyone (i for example prefere x5-15x range), and yeah i dislike AIO buffers and such things a lot (red pipet knife in shop lol). But a lot of people like it. Especially those who dont have enough time to grind, or are weak at it. Also its always hard to find dedicated support on low rates (leveling Overlord to 80 on x5....that takes dedication)
Its hard to find a decent server, and this server seems to have people to play against. Low rate servers are great, but if youre competing in Oly and youre the only person representing a class.. that's sad.

Nah, I don't think that will be the case, The respawn times on the bosses needed for nobless and subclass is not that long. You can't buy nobless in the beginning either. The donation list for this server is actually one of the best I've seen.

Nobless and subclass will be easy to do, wont need to donate it, maybe the 1st week is gonna be a pain to get it done but yea after that its easyer. About the AIO buffers, subclass is easy rly easy so making ur own AIO buffer wont be a problem, and for those who dont like that subclass quest just make an account with the buffers u want. its not like it takes 1 month to lvl up a char to 80. AIO buffer is just a char with every singel buff in the game and they cant move from town.
Gee thats basis of server domination, first get your nobless then camp and kill Barakiel to deny it to others. Strongest aliance is going to camp barakiel for say 10-12 weeks if they are serious.

It's not that bad, Then they are going to give up other rb's and it's not worth it for them. L2Forever used the same system and it wasn't the case. That server had a good population with the good 2-3 alliance zerg.
Well, i am not saying thats going to happen, i am saying that, no way you will get easy barakiel, you have to fight your way in. Its not going to be easy, it will be blood and tears. And thats beautifull in l2.
Basicly there are two options, leading aliance is having hard time and has to put a lot of effort in securing Barakiel, Baium, QA and sieges, and obviously they dont have steam to do it all for too long , or they do it easly and server dies young.
I am speaking from personal experience, we both did it, and were victims of it.
Ahhh...Good old lineage. Remmember just running around killing people with a Maestro and later on a DA(HK)....
But hey, give the server a month, maybe 2 and it's gonna be invaded by Brasilians,,the economy will die,the clans and alliances will merge and will go on a rampage killing unclaned people and preventing progression.
Also it's an hellbound server. In a week or so there are gonna be people that abuse the awesome race, wich is the Kamael, and make buff steal alts that do nothing, but waste your time and money.Honestly,Lineage 2 was one of the most fun,but aswell, most ABUSABLE and GRIEFABLE games.Played on renewal before,it died because people didn't bother fixing the bugs (having kamaels paralyze you for 30sec EVERY time you hit them was a fun thing to have for a few weeks)
In the end,the server will provide a month of joy,at most. And some amazing pvp experience. After that, the server will die out (like they did since c4,the downfall of lineage2)
well first of all, nobless and subclass is NOT easy to do.. difficulty wise, it is not that hard, but the amount of time you have to put in? pretty insane. pouches dont even drop 100% and moonstones even less %. and what abou the stuff u gotta get at upper lvl TOI? those reallly realllllly dont drop (like bloodroots)
so you have to farm 600 moonstones for nob and subclass. above that, killing barakiel is a pain in the ass, because of pvp. imagine red pipette knife was not available. im sure ppl will take forever to get nobless.. and its just unfair for lesser clans.
since the server is majorly pvp, AIO makes sense. its also fun fighting with A/S gear with self+party buff, but its more exciting and dynamic with AIO buff and higher end gear.
Donation seems awesome since u cant donate for items, which means not everyone will be running around in dynasty and vesper, it will take very long time for even the first person to get even dynasty shield... Hopefully, it will be 100% chance of making.. i failed my craft b4 and wanted to quit.

Usually it's modified puches, so it's drops like 10x instead of just 1x

It's a private server.Meaning the drop chance will be much higher for MS.It's not that hard to farm, also, considering they are tradable, there wil lbe pople that grind them to sell them.
And for nobless...I found that taking a PW or TH for a sub makes it much MUCH faster to do the nob chain. It takes around 2-3 hour sstart to end if you know everything
The problem is barakiel.
Instant respawn will mean that it will be insanely easy to get the kill done and clan wont be camping it. And any respawn timer will make it...inconvenient.

Barakiel is 8h +-30mins Cabrio and the rest of those is 18h+-1h
Killing barkiel 3 times a day? With a mass pvp for each kill? Not going to happen. Every aliance will kill it for nobless, but no denying. At least thats what i would recommend to our CL as raid master.
is anyone else having problems with the l2 renewal website? downforeveryoneorjustme.com says it's up but it is literally the only website that doesn't work for me.
also since this is a mage chronicle i think going ES will be way more valuable than warlock. so ES it is i guess. what do you guys think?

I can't get onto it either, what is up?
Definetely going to try this out, been thinking about playing this for awhile, probably going to play some kind of archer or spellcaster. Add me to the list please, would love to play with guys from TL.
Hmm, they must have changed this game a lot since I played. I started out with a dark avenger and was highest on kain server when I quit. Ended up picking up my friends spellsinger when he quit and proceeded to get to 75 and kill anyone in about 2 seconds.
howler is more dps than singer now? Coz when I played the elf caster was about double the dps of anything in the game if you had good ping.
From memory I remember the Delf caster being more powerful then others but less survivability then the human caster was balanced beteween atk/def and spellsinger was just really fast but low dmg.
sps also has ninja spells. you can't tell where a sps is at with the way the animation is. when you get hit with a hurricane you immediately know their location.

This must be back when aura flare spamming and sleep spamming made mages literal god of pvp. Good times. One good spellsinger could literally just mow down a group solo by sleep kiting and aura spamming. This is when sleep land rates were so high all that mattered in mage v mage was casting time and sps were king.
Thankfully mages (no class really, except a good bishop) is that strong anymore haha.
Howlers is higher dps than sps since they get lot higher matk, but long as the admins dont mess with cancel sps should still be very useful in a team fight.

Ug that was like what c4? when sleep land rate was like 99.99999% and mages could just aura you to death in a few seconds T_T
This server doesn't have donator +9999 lightsabers so it should be relatively balanced for high rate i hope. I remember on one server some korean PR +30 bow and could one hit almost anyone on the server outside of donator tanks lol.

From what I saw from those videos of the Quantum folks looks like a archery contest gone wrong and glowy buff/healing(?) all over the place.
They are good depending in mass pvp, but they are really bad in 1v1 and okay in small group fights so they are not a popular choice for people who want to PvP and gank a lot and get a high PvP score.
I play them sometimes for sieges and oly if their is no competition for hero.

A Tyrant is pretty dope...
But TBH I would go Gladiator for what you're looking for.

Tyrant or gladi are probably the best in your face hitting you hard class, they have a lot of good skills melee and ranged, and hit very very hard.
I personally love both! You will be happy with either imo.

Yep, that would be a destroyer. Sometimes you equip a bow and 1 shot people, but most of the time it's running around with a massive 2h sword.
After reading our character list, I think I'm going to make a Phoenix Knight.

Haha i forgot about frenzy + bow, yea if you are looking to one shot people with a really big character destroyers are good.
Phoenix knights are funny, i had one with a really over enchanted weapon and would pop angelic icon, then just about destroy any melee class that tried to fight me ^_^

You'll do fine, anyone coming from a competitive starcraft scene rocks the shit out of anything that requires less than 60 APM.
Learning the controls and general mechanics are about all that's going to be "difficult" for you.

Anybody with a life cant play retail anymore, it takes months (botting) to get max level and catch up to the worst clans on retail. Not to mention its so dead its down to two servers.
I'm getting more and more excited! This going to be awesome. Just the sheer number of interested players we've come up with is amazing. I knew I could put my trust in TL.net
Wow,lots of misinformation in this thread, people really shouldn't be giving out info on classes if they don't know what there talking about. L2 is an amazing game but it will take a year to grasp the concepts of the game and the amount of studying done for damage mechanics and skills info is staggering. There is always some error in most skills and I am always disappoint when I see pathetic admins nerfing the fuck out of classes that they find imbalanced. I suggest most of you who played on old chronicles and new players to get educated in the way this amazing game works by browsing a little bit at l2guru.com

l2blah is the forum if you wanna read hardcore and in to depth. Since it's private server we are play on and not the latest chronicle, you can't apply all the info you read there tho. And no. It's not as hard as you state.

Gongratz, you can now play L2 at a high level.
Lineage 2 has never been about the individual, it has been about teamplay and good leadership.
If you are looking for a game like StarCraft that requires A LOT from the player, then L2 isn't your cup of tea. But if you want a game where working as a team and being organised is key to everything, then yes, L2 is for you.
The one thing that I agree is hard to learn, is how Olympiad works and how the game is completely different in there then outside of it. (In terms of class balance and so on.)

Well, that's because in Olympiad it's the oposite of what you said (which I agree, it's totally team work based).
Olys are 1v1, so it does matter the damage of the skills, the buffs used, the armors the weapons, the jewelry... everything is taken in consideration

Sleep will never land reliably in pvp anymore same with any other form cc. Necros will mainly depend on landing gloom and maybe banes while nuking with bones. However, they are the tankiest of the mages thanks to their shared pain with their pet.

Point of this game is to wear ghetto armour, life stone a overenchanted weapon so it doesn't drop and kill everyone in sight. Don't be one of those pansy "elite pvper" who wears +16 armour/jewel sets and never attack until someone flags in unfavorable situations.
Go red or go home~~
That or you unequip your jewels and run to a mage and trash talk him till he unknowingly one shots you, goes red and your krew come drop him for his gear. Then you have people setup in that one town where reds revive and then kill him again so he drops even more gear.
Then if the dude has connections a guild war erupts and everyone enjoys good ole pvp \o/
Edit: was totally excited until I saw the 50x rates. Meh. Eliminates pve and money entirely and makes it a pvp playground. Kind of defies the point of lineage in my opinion.
L2 is about hard work and hard consequences. Who cares about dying when you gain 50x xp? That means a 10 hour grind turns into a 12 minute one. Lame.

I'd like to play in this, I only played retail until C1 came out but have fond memories of the 20 hour a day grind sessions it took to be one of the top leveled characters on my server.
I certainly won't be that dedicated this time, but would love to relive some of the intense l2 pvp that no other game has been able to recreate for me since then

Carebear?
Tell me how exactly do you plan on slowing down someone's progress when the server rate is 50x and you're gonna take like 4% of his exp at a low level?
He'll probably get that back killing a single monster.
You've slowed him down for.... 5 minutes? Whoa, that's gonna change the servers fate...

I thought there were some "big names" coming to the server.
While most of the people who posted in here never played or played long time ago, I guess it could be difficult to beat "big names" who are experienced.
At least at Brazilian level I've seen Kenshin dragging like 100+people to a server, that is a lot of people.
If at least 2 big groups (who are experienced) come to this server, I don't believe you guys will have an easy time blocking exp areas until everyone is ok in the game, and got some experience.

I agree with blocking xp zone is impossible in a high rate, there are simply too many places. But custom farm zones will probably be the contested zones that clans will try to control, along with raid bosses and quest bosses (nobless/sub).
But if this server has couple big names coming, they will probably be a pretty big force depending on how many good pvper they can field.
I think, and this is just my 2 cents that the best way we can get ahead is to just get everyone to 80/85 whatever it is asap. Get some decent gear and start contesting for RB's. Forget blocking exp areas in the beginning, it's not a viable option in high rate, and defiantly not until we get some more advanced party compositions. Everyone is not going to play from day 1, not everyone has played before. We will get better by time for sure, I know this since Starcraft players are very good at whatever they do.
Get 1 or 2 dedicated lvlers and make them roll destroyer(preferably) or warlord(optional)
Also get 1 bishop (or ES) and a lvl 56 warlock (this will allow you to summon anyone to that place in question when you need to)
Lvl those up(with big aoe pulls.43-70 is EZ mode in LoA when you're mass pulling),and when you hit around 74-76 go to Forge of the gods. When you get there, pull the first 2 rooms and go down,go in a corner and use a polearm to mass kill everything(if you do this with a destroyer, lower yourself abit, use frenzy and zealot ,then start hitting with polearm and lifestealing,a healer would make this safer tho). The XP you get like this is insane. After that you can just go up and take the 2 rooms and take the 2 rooms below while you wait for the upper ones to respawn. The bonus of FoG is that there's ussualy no people there (unless the zone was tweaked) and the mobs spawn fairly quickly are easy to pull and give ALOOOOOT of xp.Also, there's a chance that after a mob dies it will spawn another 4-7 mobs wich is bonus xp for you.
Now,create any sort of class you want for a main, get all your lvl 1 chars in the party, get them to the lower part, make them sit slightly to the side, pull mobs, get lvl 85 in a few hours.
That's how we lvld with our clan (both mains and all the possible buffer alts)
The only problem to this is if there's the 20 lvl cap on the server. If there is one,it wont work untill you reach 60+ with the characters in question,if it doesn't,go from lvl 1.
Another good place to choose is any custom zone that all highrate servers provide.Make a lvl 56 warlock, bring him with your destroyer or warlord to a deeper part of the custom zuno (less people) and start summoning your mains/alts or characters you want to lvl with the warlock. After that, just start mass pulling and killing everything in sight with your mighty polearm. You can get so many people to 76+ SO QUICKLY this way.
Also,it's a good idea to make many lvl 56 warlocks and leave them in certain locations (key lvling spots, deep in custom zones, certain bosses/or their entrances and etc) considering this will cut your travel time and you wont have to fight the shitty mobs before you have to.
Anyways...That's just my 2 cents if anyone cared. But ofcourse, you all knew this and i'll be ridiculed for posting this.Oh well.
Or just go mass HE and pk everyone,i heard it's "hard" to do it in hellbound and no clans ever do it.

This is a great post, thank you for taking your time and explaining. I don't know how easy leveling will be with the custom areas but this sounds like a really well thought out plan. There is no level restriction with exp rates in this server so you can level someone from level 1 with a maxed level character.
I think the polearm method will be great when we need to level more characters. Thank you.
that warlock trick is pretty smart, is there a limit on the amount of accounts you can make?
I remember there was a way of leveling a low level in a high level party by letting a summon kill all mobs and having everyone stand as far away as possible while the low level is near the summon, did they fix that?
There's no limit. We had like 15 different accounts named : wlbaium,wlbarakiel,wllevel1,wllevel2 and etc.It really helps, considering there's no CD on the summon skill. And it saves up so much time in the long run. Also, they're a good way to scout if a custom boss is up,considering they're ussualy up in the world and in the open. You just log in,check,if it's up start inviting people and summoning, takes 3min.If not log out and continue doing whatever you were doing. And you will need the warlock anyways, for the queen buff if you'll be going for pvp.Especially if you chose to go the archer way.

Checking the forum, there wont be a lvl 20 penalty, so power leveling group is possible. This is similar setup to my old clan. The setup revolved around
1) Rouge pulls mass mobs 2) Tank spams mass hate to pull aggro (steps 1-2 is only required initially when mobs are actually a threat, once you get overgeared just let the Destroyer pull) 3) Destroyer and mages just spam AoE (or the comedy everyone grab a pike and wail on it) 4) 5-7 leechers hit required level and take over to help the next batch while the original batch move onto next zone and setup camp there. And the setup just rotates till everyone hits required level.
Our setup was Ants -> Forge -> custom zone (if there is one)
I can volunteer to roll a Destroyer/Bounty hunter (if S class is crafted and is spoiled) and assist in a powerlevel group. But we're gonna need 2-3 experienced summoners to make it run smoothly. Basically once they are leveled they (with couple support) have to move onto the new zone and they start summoning people in again.
It appears the "hot zones" of this server will be abandoned mine and imperial tomb, but I have no experience with the previous incarnation of this server so if anyone knows what level the custom mobs are it would be appreciated if they gave us any information.
I'll probably be playing in this server but I won't be playing forf TL, gonna join a clan with some old friends.
But as a tip, like mentioned before, the clan TL shouldn't get over ambitious. With a vast amount of first timers / generally in-experencied MMO players you can't hope to compete against the organised clans that have been there for numerous server starts and know exactly how to most out of their efforts.
But TL clan seems to have a healthy amount of players.
I think the best course of action would be to slowly and surely level up, get some gear, let people explore the game. The more experienced members will have to take care of the more difficult stuff like CH / buffers (might want to have more then just the AIO), and politics. Many of the ''top clans'' will be rushing to max level, rushing to noblesse and rushing to take control. Mainly because they have the know-how.
But this server WILL force you to fight for the best stuff and for certain quests. So you need to be prepared for it, and that is what I believe TL's biggest challenge will come. (Like for many other clan.)
You can't experience the game on highrates. And you wont experience anything while lvling on highrates aswell. The only thing you will experience is boredom and the rage of getting ganked over and over by lvl 80 people.
Highrate is only good for a few things.Get max lvl fast, get full geared fast and start to pvp/castle sieges/clan wars and raids. That's it.If you want to feel the joy of the game itself to the max, play on 5x or below servers.
Also the pvp on lineage is rather self explanatory and it's onyl moderatly hard if you're playing a caster class.
All archers involve firing hamstring shot (maybe) and stunning shot (again maybe) ,but all you do is auto attack and kite around .I doubt it will take more than a day or 2 for the newcomers to learn the ropes. That's why i suggested the fast lvling method because the sheer stupidity and boredom of highrate lvling would weed out alot of people and they would simply stop playing all together, but hey,if you want to try it,be my guest.Considering you will be hit by the subclass quest chain after you finish grinding and lvling, wich will be even more boring and appaling. After wich you will have to lvl...AGAIN.
Meh,i'll need to check if any oldschool alliances/clan will play on the server..I doubt i'll find trinity/allstars/UWS and etc. tho

So grinding is more fun on a 5x server? Don't see the logic behind that. Maybe it's just me, but when I was levelling my 7x in Teon at C4 and didn't see the bar % not even rise 0.01% after 10 mobs was quite boring. The fact I was levelling with friends made it bearable, which is something you can do in highrates aswell.
Grind = grind, the difference is that the grind in a 50x server goes away quite fast. (In a day if you play enough and know your way around, a few days if you don't.) Then yes there is subclass aswell, but again, no problem. In otherwords, if people really get bored of the game that fast, and can't even stand grinding for a few days, L2 is the wrong game.
Could you explain what experiencing L2 to the max means?
I think people can experience L2 in highrates just fine, especially casual players.
Also with grinding you also get experience. You learn your class, you learn the skills your class have, you learn the skills other people have, and so on.
But L2 is a teamgame like mentioned before. The most important thing isn't individual skill, how fast you react or how you use your classes skills. But how you work as a team, as a clan or as an alliance, understanding siege mechanics, importance of Olympiad, fightning over epics etc. These things take time. Usually longer then a few days. And this is what seperates good clans from bad ones, mindless zergs from big powerhouses.
But I suppose it's a difference in how you view the game.
What Sernyl might mean is that on a highrate server the things that made retail really awesome is diminished. Since lvling was a pita all the pvp was really meaningful and winning was really important since it incurred xploss and possibly denial of getting that xp back for a good while if you came and took over a good lvling spot.
Sure the harsh world of l2 made fights not happen too but that was more a problem of bsoe which was intreduced after I had quit the first time.
On another note, I have tried searching but didnt find anything useful, any word on boss jewels ? These were pretty much a requirement in solopvp and made my comebacks alot easier (since i'm an awesome person I got to borrow sets :D ) wonder how common they will be or if they are gonna be really rare and I dont really know what's the better option.

High rate servers you fight over farming locations not xp zones. Its easy to have fond memories of grinding with guildies and stuff but its mostly guildies that you remember not grinding for an hour and looking at an xp bar that moved 3%.
Boss jewels will be pretty darn rare, boss timers are almost a week for the majour bosses.
What i meant to say is that,if you're playing on highrates you're obviously playing just for the pvp and general end game content. And you will not experience marketing, crafting, questing, story or all the zones in the game.Neighter will you experience msot of the low lvl boss fights and encounters.Sure, you can go there on highrates after you cap up your lvl,but it's not the same. And i'm not just taking this out of my ass, been playing lineage2 for a long....LONG time. And i'm certainly not saying that highrates are bad.
And again, that's why i suggested the fast lvling with mass pulling. You get it over with quickly and start doing pvp and quests for subclass/nobless and attunement for antharas/valakas and etc. Also raiding and blah blah.
Also, clan fights for lvling zones...the only "clan"fights you get are in custom zones, wich are at 76+ (most of the time) or clan fights/clan wars, wich happens at end game (unless you're on retail or under 5x server). And the castle sieges are one of THE best pvp encounters in MMO's.Seriously.Best thing ever.So i really don't see the problem with trying to make the under 76 lvling experience as fast and as simpler as possible. Considering you also need to farm alot of custom stuff for the gear ( wich again,is not the same as crafting the gear on lowrates) And the other fights that happen involve you being lvl 50+ and getting ganked by a group of 80's.
Sorry if i sounded offensive And new people shouldn't be discouraged from playing it.The end game pvp with a clan is moth definantly worth it.Some of the best pvp out there...Still,hellbound wasn't the best chronicle choice. They could of stuck with interlude or c5 ,but oh well :/

It's cause the longer it takes to level up, the longer is the time you spend with these friends, so of course you have stronger friendship after spending 2 months grinding, instead of 2 hours.
And I wouldn't call the jewels rare items. Yes, for the first weeks, sure, noone will have Valakas or Antharas. But be certain people will be raiding Queen Ant, Orfen, Core and certainly Zaken (this jewel is too good for "big names" to let it go). Since QA has 1 day respawn and Orfen/Core 2 day respawn, I bet many of those will be out in the first weeks.
And if they sell S-Class jewelry/weapons/armors on NPCs, you rest assured it won't be long until they start going for Baium, Antharas, Valakas and Frintezza. The only reason most servers (low rates) take time to have these raids it's because the clans have to grind too much S-class stuff and level up suporters and rechargers before being able to try it. But in a high rate server this will be done easily, especially if experienced players are coming in.

Mind you I am noob to this game I played in beta but that was it. So.. help and advice always welcomed and I know TL is good for helping.
You'll do fine, anyone coming from a competitive starcraft scene rocks the shit out of anything that requires less than 60 APM.
Learning the controls and general mechanics are about all that's going to be "difficult" for you.
Haha, too true.
I think ill try L2 out again. I played on retail beta and C1, then moved to Hellspawn, and jumped around countless times after that closed down.
Not sure what ill make yet. most likely either HE/PR or DA. Might do a bishop, they were pretty fun.
Werent you forced to do zaken with chars of his lvl i.e chars in their 50s ? That's what I remember from it and why it was a pain to get him. Tezza is pretty easy but antharas and valakas takes quite a few people to down them even with some decent gear.
Too bad that the boss jewels are so important if you wanna do some solopvp and is basiclly a must if you wanna do olympiad.

Yes, but since leveling at 50x is easy, that wouldn't be a problem. Just lvl some destroyers and it should be easy
Ah indeed but with bosses spawning with a weeks timer and the need for like 50+ people to down the bosses the chances of actually getting the neccessary pieces of boss jewels might prove difficult.
Might just need to get into a resonable good clan and then steal some shit, mmm how I love l2 :D

I can list a hundred things what suck about low rate, I can do that with high rate as well. You might not agree with everything on this server. Or you might think that the server is crap cause of different reasons. The thing is that if you don't like it you don't need to play here. Some of the players here might think the game stinks worse the donkey shit and that's fine. What's not fine is telling people that this is the one and only truth and you should do this and that.
I can already say other clans are having doubt in us spiting our name.. Lets show them how scary the elitist team liquid community is. TL.net FIGHTING!
All major bosses are cranked to 80, including Zaken and QA. Our best bet is to constantly raid QA since it is up most often, and QA ring is absolutely good (+Baium and you are SET!) but we will definitely have a large competition. Zaken is more unstable spawn with a long window, so there will be ppl camping a lot, which is annoying, and requires sacrifise.
First we need ppl to get to high lvl ASAP, have dreadnought or titan or SS farm their way in IT. IT is best place to farm for dread imo, just pull mobs from like 4 rooms and hack them away in the corner, and voila, you have shitload of AA and spoils. PvP is not of concern early stage. then its important to gear everyone to S items, get them up to +4 ish safely then farm away moonstones. Then we can compete for QA and zaken and whatnot as well as barakiel. after that or while doing so, we can start on nobless quest and help ppl kill bosses in TOI.
Who cares if there are famous BRs bringing +100 ppl to the server, im sure theres a lot of high class veterans here in TL that will participate in this clan. Without a doubt, I will make a SK or Trick Hero in no time, and hopefully there will be others too.
I want to tell ppl that its not required to play buffer because we will have AIO, so dont pick bladedancer or swordsinger unless you want to make hero with it and farm for codexs...
I can't believe there is so many signed up TLers already. I thought there would at most be 20 people when I saw the blog. Even if there is <40 active players, I think we can make some sweet things happen. Can't wait.
On March 29 2011 09:55 Spettro wrote: Edit: was totally excited until I saw the 50x rates. Meh. Eliminates pve and money entirely and makes it a pvp playground. Kind of defies the point of lineage in my opinion.
L2 is about hard work and hard consequences. Who cares about dying when you gain 50x xp? That means a 10 hour grind turns into a 12 minute one. Lame.
Im sorta agreeing with you... imma give the server a chance... if i dont like it ill continue to play on the live server.. which thanks to this post ive given a shot and i like it :D L2 is a Great game
If anyone want to correct me or add on to it feel free. I know its incomplete and wouldn't mind some additions
Edit added on some more information on SA and junk
Oddly hyped about this even though I havnt really decided if i'm gonna play or not, probably just too nostalgic. Will probably try it, not like there's much better things to play :p

Oly depends on just 2 things. If it's with enchanted gear (+21 weapons / +10 armor) then you will win with archer/summoner classes/buffer classes/gladiator If it's self buff/ +0 gear then oly is dominated by gladiators/tanks/overlords
Gladiators and summoners are the EZ classes for victory in oly IMO,but they also require the most points,w/l ratio to get the hero status, because there's just so many people playing them in olympiad.
I wont be surprised if 70-80% of the matchups are Duelists, warlocks and elemental summoners. That's the only thing i hated about lineage2. (mostly)
Still,i wish they made oly with eighter olympiad gear (A grade) or +0 gear.Would make things so much more fair.

Arcana is the best armor vs. mages because of the +speed so you just slap on Vengeance and go to work with the 2h.

That depends on how much you're gonna play every day.
At 50x you could maxlvl your main class in a week yeah. But probably not maxlvl all the subclasses if you're not playing hardcore.

This is a 50x custom server.Could max the lvl in a few days playing 2-4hours a day
Unless they add a crappy custom zone. Also,it would be nice if we could get 1 or2 parties going at start,a dedicated healer,a tanker/puller (or anyone with plate) and lots and lots of dps and just start cleaving everything.
I wish they add custom primeval island,i remmember when killing a T-rex would yield lvl 1 to lvl 75 on a 35x or omething hehe.
yeah so what's our the plan? It looks like there are gonna be 3 or 4 titans and 1 WL so maybe some potential for aoe pulling in special zones, then everyone else can tag along with mage or archer groups ?
If you want to do that you are free to. I'll be playing my main from start since i gotta make the clan n stuff. Can aoe with it anyway if that is needed.
I will not be providing TS3 info anymore through pm's. You will have to join mirc to get it. Once you are on Mirc or ts i will throw you an invite to the clan also.

So the idea made me and a buddy want to play L2 again but 50x rates is too much. It will just turn into a pvp sandbox. L2 is all about consequence and hard work (grind).
So....
We've decided to play on LIVE instead. If anyone is looking to play on live and roll fresh, please send me a PM!! US Chronos server. We start Friday afternoon.

Part of me feels bad for you, but another is envious of the time you have to do such things that sounds at least somewhat entertaining ^^

If you want to experience "Real" lineage retail is no longer to place to go. The population is dead, especially at the lower levels.
Go find a high pop low rate (if there is still one) and play there instead.
I downloaded the client and it's taking FOREVER to update all the files? Is this normal? Do I need these official updates or does the server run on its own patch or something? How do you even connect once its done.. cause this just looks like the official client to me.
you shouldn't use the patcher that comes with the installer. seeing as the client version you downloaded is like 4 years old just install the client and then run the server's patcher (although I don't think they've uploaded it yet)

The population on each of the merged servers is still higher than 99% of private servers. I don't know the numbers for the privates, but the individual servers that got merged added up to about a medium population WoW server, and it still goes to Heavy load on siege weekends. Going through Giran is actually a pain in the ass because of the number of shops up now.
And if you're in Europe, the population is quite a bit more.

Lineage is one of those games that only the leadership needs to be on the ball and knowledgeable for a clan to really succeed. But thats only if the goal is to completely dominate the server. If you're new you can have plenty of fun just roaming in pvp groups and just killing everyone else and taking over the best farm zones.
Its really a game thats easy to hop into but has its depth if you plan to become better and better. At start I'll try my best to help out the newbies and get them geared enough so that we can just roam around and terror everyone else .
I think at start for the newbies we should let them just experience the game by leveling normally and have a separate group of people to setup a power leveling squad to help newbies who want to skip all the PvE and just hop into PvP.
But either way doesn't matter if you're completely fresh or a vet. Always stay in a full party, this isn't like wow where the devs makes you a playground to explore and you play the content they created. The fun in this game is completely dependent on other people within or outside your group/clan. So stay grouped and interact with (kill) the other groups; it will make it 100x more fun and you'll learn the ropes of group pvp.

I'M quite an experienced l2 player and I've been looking for a good l2 server to start playing again. L2-renewal seems decent especially so many people/clans are joining. I got a couple of questions before I make my decision..
Does AIO buffer have 3rd class buffs? How long does buffs song/dance last? Are classes like EE or SE useful or will there be mana pots, I quite enjoying playing EE. Does the server use the nerfed vambaric rage? Like the % hp gain decreases after every hit.

Er.. how is anybody playing if they havent put their patcher up? lol.. is there any other place to download it?
The patcher that came with the downloaded version is probably the original patcher, if you run it, it will try to update to the latest version of the game.
The server will upload their own patch when it's ready. Some people are playing because they got access to a beta test.

AIO will have any buffs that we donate for. Most likely, all buffs. they last 3 hrs except i believe COV which lasts 20 min?
there will be mana pots so Evas saint is only nec for healing. not sure about vamp rage, but both dance and vamp stack so they should be sufficient.

That's disappointing.. Eva's saints won't be much use then, cardinals will be by far the best healer if they have mana pots.
Here is another guide to tanks in Olym and general augmentation and skill enchant.
In olym you will have 60 sec to buff your self. If you are a buffer class, do prepare a cloth set so you have sufficient mana (im talkin to you useless sword muses!) also make sure to buy the B grade staffs that will give you buff chance when casting a buff. They give body focus and magic armor i believe. these are very useful, and make sure to do body first so that if you are lucky, you will get it on the 1st shot and you will be healed before the fight.
make sure you hotkey these so yo can do it fast as possible. sometimes they never work, so it is indeed too bad if you cant get it to work. DO use lowest costing mana spell when doing this, or fastest casting, for instance, when i played evas templar, i used weapon buff then deflect arrow in combo for fastest possible buffs.
its also good to think about your mana and when to kite during the fight. as a tanker, when i played titan, i tried to eat up time so that their frenzy will end, but that is not easy. because of frenzy they are usually faster than you too, and if you didnt buff windwalk, theres simply no way you can run away. using bow and good use of ulti (tankers have like 3.. make use of it) can eat up titan no problem. I think i barely lost to titans.
daggers will be a piece of cake once their mana is done. ofc, they have this 1 hit wonder with lethal attack and theres nothing you can do about it. also, you cant really run from daggers so be smart when you are fighting them. archers and daggers will also have ridiculous evasion, so bow attack wont land very often.
tank vs mages should be a piece of cake. tankers should never lose to mages, you can literally do w.e you want. you can get close to vicinity (usually kill summon first), use knight shield and hack away + shield stun + arrest + whatnot. you can also ulti and use bow to hit them like 1k crit per hit. in my server, skill cd didnt reset after fight, so i played without UD vs mages, but this server will make life much easier. dont be afraid to enchant these skills because encahnting increases cooldown vastly.
kamael and dwarves are a piece of cake and you wont even need a guide to fight them as a tank. The toughest opponents for tanks are archers and evas saint. evas saint will mana burn you like there is no tomorrow. they will also heal themselves so much that your dmg output will definitely be less than what they can heal. unless you land a good hold and perma stun which is not likely, this will go for a long fight, and if, evas saint has an attacking weapon augmentation, which MOSTLY do, they will chip away your HP and they will eventually win cuz you dont have mana. remember, you require mana to shoot arrows, so in the end, you wont even be able to use bow! a good mdef, mana pool and some lucky bow crit can help you. using cloth is a good idea too.
gladi and grandkha are not easy opponents either, but if you know when to use UD vengence knightshield + quick switch to bow when they run, you will have no problem.
vs other tankers, a lot of it is about gear and weapon enchant. first one to use UD is most likely to lose, and it will be a long long fight. phoenix knights are a pain in the ass because they have this skill reflect shit and it works pretty damn well. SK will debuff you from the start and that is very very painful, and if you are a lucky phoknight you will be able to reflect it. evas templar and phoknights are probably the best tanking class in olym due to heals and high def, SK does more dmg output and sick debuff, Hell knight is probably weakest, and indeed they are, but they have a panther to help you.
archers are prolly the toughest to beat. you will never catch up to them, they are a lot faster than you are. they will kite you til the end. try shooting bow at them but they will evade all. its really tough. thats why you want to lvl up ur hold/arrest to high chance and hope that it will land. also the archers will outrange you with bow, so if you are thinking of using ultimate, and using bow, they will step back and just shoot u or rest. you need to predict well where they are going, and a good use of Aggression is important. the moment you use aggression they will be pulled towards you, and you might have a chance of stunning them. vs archer and daggers, normal hit will miss most of the time so do use skills like power swing or tribunal. same thing with bows with power shot, but they do very little dmg. many times, duel vs archers will go on til the end, and they will likely have done more dmg output and they will win. if you are well experienced, you will do ok, but nonetheless, theyre the toughest to fight.
A good tanker should have almost no losses in olympiad. the only losses you should have are the fluke losses to titan gladi grandkha and daggers and against a buffed well geared archer.
augmentation is very VERY important. for all classes other than buffers, you will want a PASSIVE augmentation, and a good one. best one for mages will be Wild magic, since there is no acumen aug and empower is totally useless. for melee, i am unsure what was best for melee class but passive attack or crit is good as well as passive life steal, which is very very good for olympiad.
you wont get good augmentation in the first try. most of the time they give u shitty stuff like +25 MP, +1 STR, +12.5 Crit and etc. if they give you skill, most of the time its load of crapshoot like lvl 10 hydro blast and whatnot (for tankers.. lol!) you want a good passive augment with high +crit or attack. try using lots of midgrade lifestone 76,80 instead of high because honestly, chances are about the same.
skill enchant is prolly the most important shit in this game. they are like lvling ur weapons. they will break and go back to lvl 1 if you fail. you use Giant's codex to encahnt your skills. Most skills will have more than 2 choices of enchant.
Few examples are Power: increases effect of skill duration: length of skill Cost: mana cost is less elemental: gives elemental effect to skill, such as Fire enchant to archer skill will make the skill have fire attack ability, which is good!
and bunch of stuff! A good example would be Tanker's deflect arrow skill. if you enchant the right option, this buff will give you +pdef!!! awesome! +15 Deflect arrow will give you sufficient increase in pdef that it is definitely breaking a few codexs!
you receive 1 codex when you become 3rd class, and you can buy more from olympiad or drop from bosses. the chance of enchanting decreases per lvl. at lvl 1 most are 90+%, except the 3rd class skills which are significantly lower.
enchanting armor and weapon with elemental stones will give elemental effect to it. these include
fire earth wind water dark holy. enchanting armor with water will increase Defense from water enchanted weapon and etc. you can have +30 (+3 per stone) on piece of armor, and they will not go back to 0 when you fail. Weapon, i am unsure but i believe it was much higher.
I will write more if there are some things that you guys are curious about. I might write a guide for kamael since no one seems to want to play kamael.. good luck.
I have some experience playing in private servers in few pretty organized/large clans and I thought I'd share some Day 1 tips. Not sure how hardcore the clan leader/leadership want to take it so feel free to ignore this completely. Either way playing lineage 2 with a good group is always fun in my book. Be it chill or hardcore.
But if you really want to crush the server it would revolves around mainly 2 things: Controlling the Subclass Raid bosses + Nobless bosses. (Baium isn't needed for the quest on this server which simplifies things)
There is 4 (Kill 1 then the other 3) Subclass bosses you need to kill for the subclass quest (This is required for the nobless quest - which i will detail later). This is the first choke point for the server, either control all 3 (not really possible, unless insane coordination with summoners or there is a direct port onto the bosses) or control 1-2 to completely cockblock the progression of everyone else.
All 4 bosses are apparently on a 18H +/- 1 (which I think is retarded cause it allows strong clan to do exactly this)
Requirement to do this would be basically 1) Experienced Bishop(s) (Caster works too even) who gets a day 1 donator nobless. Not 100% required but if one side has a nobless bishop and the other don't its like multiplying their open field pvp numbers by 3 pretty much.
2) Red party (Ranged nukers + life stoned weapon + Ghetto armour) to kill EVERYONE that ports in till the quest item box times out so they can't get it. You basically attach the best bishops you got to this party, if they drop you res -> nobless and they keep going. (Attacking reds won't flag the attacker, but if they attack the healer who is flagged but not red, the attacker flags. Once they flag it means anyone can kill them without turning red)
Nobless Quest has 1 boss and requires a subclass with lvl 40 to start and like 75 to end. But boss on a 8H +/- 30min timer. If you control 1-2 of the subclass bosses you don't even to bother with this guy. But if you fail this guy will be your 2nd chokepoint.
I've read people talking about lockdown of farm zone/xp zones, this is impossible unless we have 100+ members or a seasoned group of dedicated robots. However, locking down a raid boss is completely feasible and basically end game in lineage (or castles if thats your thing).
Having a monopoly of nobless in a server basically means you beat the game. It means you control the Olympiad and your clan/alliance has all the Heroes and you have all/more Nobless bishops (meaning you will never ever lose an open field pvp if the bishops are good). Though its not really possible to maintain a monopoly for a long time since other clans will basically band together and force you off the monopoly. Unless you form a pact with another huge clan and make it your alliance vs everyone else.
Even if we don't do this, if any of the competent old clans do play here, they will probably attempt to do this as well (and we'll be the ones trying to break their monopoly )
I think I should explain why I emphasize Nobless Bishops so much. Lineage PvP for the most part is simple for dps/tanks. On day one if someone gives you a list of buffs/augs/gear/spells you should use you can pvp correctly and it wont matter if you're a complete newbie or you've played this since 2001. Basically, you have a caller, then you attack the target called with your highest dps combo in one coordinated burst. Simple.
However, playing a good bishop is hard and you are literally the backbone of the group. Usually a party has 2 bishops and its their job to keep each other alive and the rest of the party alive. When someone drops, bishops have to find the time to res them then re-nobless. They have to cleanse CC, they have to find out who got called and then celestial shield them (short invul), etc etc. Open field fights really only end when your bishops die (twice, they get a self-revive, literally the most broken class) and loses their buffs.
In short, a good and a bad dps is hard to tell apart but a good bishop and a bad bishop is day and night. And if I could find my old clan's Swedish bishop who was probably the Flash of bishops I would bring him back to play .
Hey, me and two friends of mine would like to join the clan if possible. We're veteran and experienced pvp players, played so many servers not even worth to mention from low rates to high rates, very active at vent and we're looking for some people to hang out with! Nicknames: Howl (prolly SK), Zenmai (Soulhound) and Sehkmet (prolly Bishop). I will try to get to the IRC in some hours.

The buff your talking about isn't magic armor, it's Mental Aegis, one of the more important buffs in Oly especially against any caster. (Gives resistance to numerous CC spells like sleep / silence.)
And I wouldn't dismiss HK as the weakest tank in Oly. Panther with soulshots is incredibly high DPS. While some classes can deal with the panther easily, some other are helpless against it. I used to play HK in Olympiad, and the threat of the panther can't be ignored by any class. Which means if your smart, you can get a shit ton of free hits. And I don't recall losing to a SK, even if he got really lucky with his cubics. Your DPS is greater because of the Panther which he is forced to kill, meaning that he needs to waste a few thousand worth of HP on killing your panther while you keep your own HP up (which is alot higher since your human)
NonFactor, thanks for the input. I meant HK was weakest among the tanks when they fight each other, but I don't really know very well SK vs HK so I guess you are right. and yea i forgot the active spell name, mental aegis is right.

I really hope that by HK,you mean somekind of other tank and not a Hell knight. The class was definantly NOT the weakest tank class in olympiad Unless you don't use your pet/don't buy pet SS/don't use it properly.Honestly, the only tank class in oly that i'd say is better than a HK (by a far) is a paladin.Angelic icon and you're set to roll. But ofc, this is just a tank vs tank observation.
Also, about the guide. My personal tip for anyone thinking of playing a tanker class is to BoG shield slam and use it on every melee. If it lands, you won the fight.Stun (recycle) , Shield slam (chance) and hamstring (chance) should be enchanted as much as possible with book of the giants. But again, this is only for DA.Also if you're fighting against an archer class,he will almost 100% initiate on you eighter with hamstring shot or with stunning shot. Now here the lovely part If you're playing a DA (or a SK i think) you have this nifty little skil lcalled "Physical shield" (if i remmember the name correctly) use it,use it against ANY match up.Now here's the beauty of what happens when you're fighting an archer class,it has a chance of reflecting all stunning shots and that initiating hamstring shot.If you reflect eighter of those on the start of the match, you won.It works against magic too,but it has a really low chance of reflecting, still, keep it up.It's especially vital in tank vs tank match ups.A shield slam reflect is amusing to say the least .
Also,if you'll play a DA always get an Arcana Mace (am) with an acumen(or empower if oly is only with +0 gear) special ability (SA) and get spirit shots ( NOT BLESSED SPIRIT SHOTS).The key is to use hamsting, drain life and any other spell while wearing the staff. It will increase your chances substantially to land a root/slow.Also,if you lose your dark panther (DA pet) always corpse scavange it or corpse plague (if the enemy is close to the corpse),stun or hamstring the enemy, run away, equip your AM and summon the pet back(when summoning the pet back always use AM with an acumen SA,get it back as FAST as possible).I've seen so many DA's in olympiad not re-summoning their pets after they die. It's a BAAAAAAAD move since the pet deals way more dmg then you do.
If you get into a match up against any buffer class (Prophet, evas saint, shilien elder) you NEED to land a hamstring or a shield stun.If you don't land eighter of those FAST,you lost.
If you'd ever (for some weird reason) want to use a tanker for world pvp, pick a SK or a paladin, since they excel much more with full buffs. But,in a self buff situation of the olympiad,DA is definently one of the hardest, yet one of the msot versatile tankers around if used properly. The only classes you'd have problems with are good gladiators, all buffers and out of the tanker classes,a paladin.Other tanks are great, don't get me wrong, but they are highly RNG and unreliable.SK's are fun because you can paralyze (high rng) and have 3 cubics to help you (reduce armor, poison, life steal) and TK are fun because you can....heal....yourself....Ye.
But again, this is just a personal preference.I've played a DA since c2 or c3 and a warsmith/maestro since c3-c4 and that's why i'd choose those classes over any other class in olympiad
Overall all the classes are versatile and have their unique skill sets that can help them win.Eighter by slows, draining life, dealing burst dmg, short but often stuns, disables, pets, range and etc. I'd say pick any class and play the game,if this is your first time (just don't pick a scavanger (dwarf) you'll regret it in pvp/olympiad,they have their purpose, but fighting is not one of them) Posting a guide-to-guide for each class, the gear needed, the skills used for each matchup, the enchants, special abilities, augments and etc would take up pages. But that's what makes Lineage 2 interesting... Even tho ,private server end up dying in a month or two /sigh.
Can't wait for the opening day, still torn between HK or a maestro
I really hope that by HK,you mean somekind of other tank and not a Hell knight. The class was definantly NOT the weakest tank class in olympiad Unless you don't use your pet/don't buy pet SS/don't use it properly.Honestly, the only tank class in oly that i'd say is better than a HK (by a far) is a paladin.Angelic icon and you're set to roll. But ofc, this is just a tank vs tank observation.
There is a reason ET and PK are called zombie tanks. I have almost never seen PK or ET lose a battle vs HK and they really shouldnt. Touch of Life itself should win it over HK without a problem. Not only that, but panther doesnt live for too long and cubics do their job overtime too. assuming the opponent tank targets panther first (using arrest on it and stunning HK every cd is done) panther dies pretty fast. I use heal storm and smart cubic and these absolutely build up overtime. especially in tank vs tank fight, you can expect +5 times heals and +5 times storm, and thats a total difference of about 2k HP. also ET has faster speed and PDEF as well as shitload of more buffs (same with PK)
Hence as a result, ive almost never seen HK kill a zombie tank unless HK out micros and out plays and out gears the other. too much heal to overcome.

Alright,we can just ignore the fact that ToD makes your healing obsolete.Like i said,PK is insanely hard to kill,ET is a looooooong fight, but winning it is more than possible.Unless it's one of those olympiads where the ET has +21 gear and +16 armor with 6 boss jewelery. But if its with +0 S grades or even a custom A grade olympiad base gear set,HK has the advantage. Also,i never had good gear on my tank,i'd always fight oly with +10-14 weapons against +16 and higher ups. Like i stated before, most of the HK's i've seen (personaly) never even bothered regaining their pet or using shield slam for plain interrupt purposes rather than disabling physical skills,or even using life scavange in a fight and those skills are really life savers.
The cubics are great, don't get me wrong,i wish HK had them, but honestly, they don't heal THAT much and the only way you can survive is by ToL , and when the HOT ends,it's over. And PK usually ends the fight before that happens with AI. Still, most of the fights (tank vs tank) ends with eighter one of the opponents having less than 5% hp
Am i saying that a HK is the choice for someone starting l2?No,HK is the worst choice,it's one of the hardest tank classes to PvP with.Am i saying a HK can beat an equally geared and skilled ET/PK/SK? Yes.Honestly,i think that a SK is the weakest tanking class for OLYMPIAD,since i used to beat them with my maestro quite easaly (couldn't beat other tank classes),but that's another story.
Still, disscusing class balance is always stupid and irelevant,i played with a HK for many years and you obviously played ET or somekind of other tanker class and we will both have our own arguments that prove why our tank class is superior to the other Still, the end note stands,if you want to have ALOT of fun in olympiad and to be able to stand head to head with a variaty of opponents, pick one of the tanker classes, you will not regret it.
I am probley gonna be a bishop but I am curious when the server is going live. I understand 2nd April 2011 - 16:00 CET. But I suck at translating times to US EST coast. Could somone tell me how many hours from now?
Hello everyone. I never played Lineage 2 but I would like to try out an MMO with people that know to play an MMO and help me out to get started. Can I join the guild? I have a previous MMO experience in alot mmo's and I wanna make a dps char. Something like a fury warrior or a rogue.

fury warrior would be something like a gladiator or tyrant. They got good hp and really nice dps both ranged and meele
Oh man...the nostalgia is creeping back. I had a lvl 78 SD on Teon years ago (Still used by active members.) I might just have to give this a shot. Let me/us know the TS3 info when you have it and I'll start up a dagger.

wtf I always thought you were Russia Kularus, but it say's you're Canadian.
This is Loinheart from Dawn/KE btw. Remember the epic posts on L2Blah? Ah, those were the days, when boardwarrior was an important job lol. Anyone else that played on Bartz besides me, Ion, Zerui and Kularus?
EDIT: Also, does anyone know where I can download the original, whole version of Rivals 2 that was posted in the OP? Jaid's old FileFront account does not have it anymore.
I have never played lineage before but it looks very promising. Could someone who has played both SB and L2 tell me the main differences between them? They look rather similar.
Ug just got my internet working and downloading client now, probably hop on sometime tomorrow and get started, working on getting my brother in this to.
I downloaded their client that was 3.2Gb, then I downloaded some other thing that was 14mb. (the survival full patch) and run the L2.exe when I replaced it. Did I do everything ok or not? I m hyped about this, lets see how it goes! 6 hours for my time for it to go live!

You should be good to go, try logging in and see if you see all the proxy servers.

The survival patch thingy tho is taking too long, and it crashed at some point when I left it running yesterday night. Its downloading some animation files now. heh.
Would be awesome if you guys could join #Teamliquid.l2 on quakenet. would make communication so much more easy. You can use webchat.quakenet.org if you don't want to install the client just connect and type "/j #lteamliquid.l2"
Sorry for repeating this but I would like everyone to join up in here.
As long as you manage to organise the people and make em all listen to your orders it's gonna be all good. A vent/ts/mumble would be of use, it's reall making things easier. It's an easy game afterall.

Yeah, already on top of that, not the first clan/guild/crop we've made. :p
Same here, any other faster mirror? Not sure how dedicated I'll be, always wanted to play L2 but never got around to it, and been finding it hard to get into MMOs lately - but Iove the idea of sandbox pvp in a korean mmo as long as donations aren't too big a factor.
My download stopped at 2.1gb. This sucked. But now the dl speed is like 500kb/sec. Anyone else tho got any other link to it? since my speed can get upto 1mb/sec
I won't be on until later tonight at like 9ish PM EST time, hopefully some people are still on. Hoping to at least get lvl 50 tonight and then probably take a break, cause I have work in the morning.

Still working on actually logging in. Got the client up and running and ran the l2renewal patcher, which of course caused my client to crash upon startup. Re-downloading the whole thing and trying again.
Well, everyone is sort of scattered and trying to level. I was sort of lost when I first got in-game too, I was stuck in talking island and couldn't find the GK lol.
But if you come into IRC there's usually enough people present to help out.
If anyone has got tips to squeeze the most out of archers' dps in this server, feel free to share

Ok, we've kinda hit a bump. Our clan level is currently 5 and can only hold 40 people. We need everyone who is under level 40 to join the academy so we can get clan rep. It's really important since we can't level up the clan and get more spots otherways.
We kinda missed the subclass race but will pick it up once we get settled in. server seem fine, no lag and a healthy population.
As we are speaking I'm boxing 5 clients with cat buffers I'm powerleveling to 40 to get more clan rep. to get clan to level 6 we need 10k clan rep level 7 is 20k. We need you guys to help. If you are new, pm someone from tl or irc or mirc get them to invite you at level 1 preferably. Super important.
Yes they do, we might put up a fund for the aio, it's 60 euros. I don't like asking for money but if we wanna get one this month we need to help eachother out. I'm kinda short on money this month since i didn't get much work last month (substitute teacher ain't that awesome sometimes).
Clan level is finally level 6, now we can add some more members to our main clan when we create our guard unit (need 5k clan rep to create one). Remember we still need you guys that are below 40 to join in to the academy since we need clan rep. If you are 39, be sure to get an invite before you hit 40.
Best thing is if you are level 1 and get in to the academy. that grants 400 clan rep. We need 20k now.
Is there anyway to download the client through bit-torrent cause this download is going like 70kb/s directly through the website and I can easily get over 1mb/s download
nvm

Morning, We've got 80 clan slots now which should be enough. On today's to-do list there's subclass bosses and getting more people up to 76+. Even tho it's a 50x server this is the slowest 50x I have ever played on, and I like it. Hopefully we will get some epic PvP once we get our AIO. Without it it's like banging your head against a wall. Anyway, off to grind some adenaz
my ES is 70 and my warlock is now 75. just trying to have more options based on what group we have at the time. i don't dualbox so it's slow but i'm getting there.
I'm 77 now as Gladiator, it's so slow at this point and farming ancient adena is impossible since I have to compete with casters that kill things so quickly.

not having that problem
to get AA if you don't want to bother being pk'd in ACM; level a char to like 25-ish and farm execution grounds till the mobs turn blue and start over again, on 1 char i got around 350 k aa that way (log out a high lvl char nearby to pk everyone who tries leveling there )
Can someone walk a newb through the process of farming AA for weapon upgrades? I've googled like crazy but I can't get my head around it. I've played many similar Korean MMOs to Lineage 2 but never Lineage 2 itself, so I'm feeling a bit list.
Any instructions other than "kill stuff and level up" would be welcome.

In ruins of despair, execution grounds and Blood queens in loa entrance and Forbidden gateway. After that when you are aound 65~ go abandoned coal mines
One thing I wish I had noticed earlier is the "Renewal" Gatekeepers next to the main Gatekeeper NPCs. This thing ports you to a number of different leveling spots and even breaks them down by levels. For whatever reason I totally ignored this thing in the beginning and I really wish I hadn't. Anyways hope that helps someone out.
yes and more ppl should keep irc on their 2nd monitor what is wrong with you guys :/
FYI for old school players, archers got nerfed somewhere down the line and aren't close to what they were in prelude to C4, daggers are still quite decent and mages are fotm.
Here's an advice, don't roll a tank early, you will not be able to farm and you wont be able to kill anyone in pvp. Full S set, S weapon, S jewel tank can't kill A grade mage even after using 2 ultimates, constant shield stuns and etc, and I played evas temp for 4 yrs, so i know how to pvp well. Its insane, I really advise you not to play tank this early, its utterly useless. grow a mage or farm class then grow ur tank. i guess u dont even have to subclass ur farm class. but thats a smarter method imo.
so.. seeing as this is a priv server, i think it would be safe to assume that everyone playing on it has played before (be it another private, or official) and I was wondering, would someone new to the game (myself) get their ass handed to them? I've played tons of other mmo's (not to brag, but i've always ended up being amazing at them) and was curious on how easy/fast this game would be to pick up. Based on the answer to my previous question, I would end up playing with a friend, and was wondering what you guys are in need of for farming/pk (and which is the best at each respectively). Thanks all!

Lineage 2 is insanely easy to learn, atleast the basic concepts of PvP
I'd recommend (but this is just IMO) playing for an archer class (eighter an elven or human) since they're the easiest to learn and one of the most devastating in group pvp, considering they can 2-3 crit a caster (and archers land crits insanely often) and they can kite around msot melees.
Another suggestion would be to roll a necromancer,if you MUST be a caster, but they take some time to get used to.On the other hand they have a unique skill set to counter each class in the game. And honestly,i think they're the best pvp caster class in the game (besides kamael soulhounds and etc) simply because....They're amazing.
My third suggestion is to pick a dagger class (again, eighter a human or an elven dagger, dark elf abyss walkers are fine too tho.)They're fast, agile and have an insane burst capability. Also backstab is extremely potent and dagger classes have a small chance to 1 shot anyone (small chance to leave your opponent with 1 hp after any skill).2-3 daggers can be devastating in pvp. They make an amazing assault group.
It's a 50x server,so learn the basics with eighter one of those classes and you can always lvl another character or pick a different class after the subclass quest when you hit 76.
Also, the server is rather self explanatory, there are NPC buffers that you can use.Simply read the individual buffs and pick the ones you think you need(or if you want i can specify the basic buffs required for each class). And there are player controlled AIO's (all-in-one,) whom provide superior buffs and will know what buffs you require, yet it does cost money to get buffs from the AIO's (unless you're in the same clan/alliance,then they should provide the buffs for free).Buffs are EXTREEEEEEMELY IMPORTANT.Always have them.
The global gatekeepers are used for teleportation (The town of GIRAN is the main city with all the GM shops/class transfer quest items) and they also teleport you to a specific lvling location, just follow the lvl requirements.
lvl 1-20 is Non-grade gear,20-40 is D-grade equipment,40-52 is C grade,52-61 is B grade,61-76 is A grade,76-infinity is S grade (also,there are equipment called vesper or dinasty,that start from lvl 80,but i'm not sure if the server has them).
At lv20 you get your first class promotion, just buy the quest item from GM misc shop in GIRAN,you can change your class at your class guild house, eighter in dion or in gludio by talking to the grand master
lv40 is 2nd class promotion, same place for quest items, talk to your class grandmaster in GIRAN to find out wich 3 quest items you need for the specific class.
lv76 is your 3rd and final promotion.Just talk with the same NPC that sold you the 1st and 2nd items and select the 3rd profession (or whatever it's called on this server).Usually, the third is changed instantly, without the need of buying any items.Same might happen with the 2nd promotion.
Always have soulshots that match your grade rank, always have blessed spiritshots if you're a caster, always have mana potions and health potions (misc shop),scroll of escape and etc.
I could keep going on and on,but these are the basics.Hope this helps.
Looks like fun, im downloading the client right now, I played Lineage 2 for 5 years so im familiar with the gameplay/mechanics. Any classes you guys are short on?
im a total noob myself, lvl 65 at the moment, class silver ranger my experience so far is very good and the game is quite fun, but not as easy some of the progamers here tell you You will get killed a lot, but that will just make you more eager to get better. just ask a lot of questions in mIRC or ingame.

What's the status on the server so far? Everyone liking it? Still leveling?
I have been on my 5 day work week with 12 hour days, so I have not even been able to startup yet, but I want to once I get done with this week, cause then I'll have 5 days off straight, so I'll be playing then.

We're finally getting leveled/geared enough that we can stand our ground in IT and pvp. Also thanks to Epik we have an active AIO buffer, which helps alot.
hmm.. bishops kinda suck lvling to 66+ though to get at least into level range of IT groups though (iirc it was somewhere around there you would get decent xp after the fix to power leveling lowbies in high lvl groups)
level a bishop: buy demon armor, buy top grade C/ B weapon, buy lotsa mana pots, find a place with lots of undeads, nuke. with basically infinite mana even bishops aren't that bad to level
or what I did, dualbox a bish with a nuker. like someone else before me said, best thing to do when you're new is level a character you can farm stuff fast with first, then level a bishop/overlord/whatever
I know how you feel -.- glad they fixed/are fixing the %heal on bishops tho, a 3 hour raidboss fight that normally dies in 5 minutes isn't exactly my idea of a fun evening of entertainment
I was thinking about setting up some times for people to get online and do some mass pvp / raiding, whatever day and time suits everyone best - probably weekend I presume. Doesn't seem like we're particularly organized right now, not that it's anyone's fault.
Also I'll try to fix whatever is wrong with my TS and get on more often (at all).
Seline here. I have finals coming up so I cant really log until its over.. but tanks are useless this early so you wont miss me. when im back, do plz help me with sub/nob quest for quick hero! xD gl to u all
Good times to be had. Enjoying archer over destroyer. But for the moment mages are the bane of most people. Or I am just terrible. Most likely the later. ^^ It's still fun thou hanging with tl people.

Mages are always very good early on in a server's life, nobody has good jewel sets, no stones on armour etc. Although I am subbing a mage for my sub just to get noble, MP pots + AIO buffs = fun times
It's only levels and +0 s grades. It's not liek you can donate for dynasty and overenchanted gear or boss jewels. Don't quit already. Come to baium today, gonna see if you can put up a fight, coz untill now we've been steamrolling everything.

It's not yet, that's the worry.
Either way, I left the clan, there is a group of people in the clan who only talk to others when they want to, don't help with levelling others, and certainly don't help with PvP. I don't particularly care about the XP, but I find it said to see people looking for parties when they are tanks, healers or whatever, and they don't respond. I do care when I ask for help with PvP (after all this game is pvp centric, as well as this server) and I get 0 response.
Oh and getting told by a clan member than I would have to pay them 70m adena to get a summon to toi 8, and if I didn't pay i'd be killed by more than 1 of the TL members, was also pretty funny!

Well, if anyone's interested, I've been playing on the real L2 server (Chronos) and it's going pretty well so far. 50 in about a week and a half, but I've been pretty lazy about leveling. I've heard with an optimal AoE group, you can hit 85 in a month now, and normal people can do it in 2-3.
I am gunna stand up and point out that for the most part the people I've met in the clan are helpful if not a tad silly and vague and in general I've had an excellent time. I'd also like to think I tended to answer and help as best I can but then again I am not entirely sure on alot of things so I don't always respond.

*shrug* Not for everyone.
Not sure how I feel about the new donate bs.
Oh don't get me wrong, some really nice people in the clan, and most are helpful / willing to do things!
It's just incredibly frustrating to say the least, when you're trying to do the sub quest, which you can't do due to 2/3 people constantly pk'ing and there is 8 people online who didn't once respond to me asking for a little help (apart from r3, who was a 61 sps).

I believe it was already announced way before the server launched that this would be implemented. And really getting your S-grade stuff up from B or A grade is like what a week or two of farming at most? It's not like ppl are getting +25 weps and stuff like that. It's just all +0 armor weps jewels.
I dunno about ppl summoning/killing you at TOI, but as for ppl partying I haven't really seen a dearth of it...Just yesterday Warbler was helping level my dark avenger which does miserable damage. Usually people in the same area will already be partied and be more than willing to invite. Alternatively you can just start your own.
As for pvp, everyone is trying to farm up their s grade and I think it's just more effective to go somewhere else to farm. Having tons of people going to one place just to kill a few people isn't really efficient i don't think? There are always little groups of 2 or 3 people that try to run through areas in L2 and steamroll people. If clans were to kill every single one of these people, no one would ever get any farming done.

Just my 2Cents
As I mentioned, I wasn't farming for anything but my sub class. The area where the mobs are, I was getting PK'd / killed. I asked for a bit of help, not for a full party, just one person could of helped and that was it. It wasn't just that one thing though, there's been many other points where I or other people have asked for some help PvP wise, and had little response.
I've spent enough time playing L2 on retail farming and xp'ing, the point of this server was for me especially to PvP. I can see people want to get top level, want to get the gear and so on, I guess i've just done that so many times already that it's a bit tiresome.
As a whole there are some great people, and helpful ones too, but as I probably mentioned, there are a few who don't seem to want to get involved.
The new donations list is a big disheartening but I don't know anything about the guys who are running this server and if they have a history of just making some quick cash and bolting.
I just saw this thread and thought it must be a pretty good server since so many TL peeps were down with playing on it.
I'm still hoping he changes his mind and takes them away or increases the prices, I don't know. And hopefully there are no further donations for icarus and the like.
Anyways, Tastosis will still mainly be in Giran to AIO, sometimes it's in Goddard. If you want buffs or nob just run up and type aio or nob. Don't just stand there waiting. Also, don't automatically trade or invite when it's busy that causes all sorts of problems because whenever someone does that it stops the buffing and I have to move and restart everything and it resets the timers to when I can trade someone who's turn it actually is.
$20 for SA Crystals is damn cheap considering how long it takes to get 1,000 SA crystal fragments. Lame
So this server is starting to become real shitty I've noticed and I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same.
The grind is insane for a high rate server, which lead people to bot just like retail. 1000 SA frags for a stupid SA is silly and it might be literally quicker to do the quest like retail to get it over this stupid system. The custom zones, which is suppose to be high reward in return for danger of pvp, is placed in the worst dungeon possible and no one fights because they don't want to drop gear that took forever to grind.
Not to mention despite claiming to use L2off files, lot of people are noticing that stats are off on forums and its mostly being ignored. Archer damage is not like retail at all. As a bishop in A grade I have level 82 archers hitting me for 800 fully buffed and critting for 1.5kish. Mage's land rate for debuffs is stupidly high and not like official at all. You can get slept by a lvl 28 mob while being lvl 80. So most likely either Mental Shield isnt working or level based resistances is bugged.
At first, Sawks didn't allow donation for gear so I thought he was just horrifically bad at designing a server. But now that he started allowing donation for gear/level/SA its pretty apparent what he's trying to do. Donation for gear isn't a big deal if people can get geared through playing a reasonable amount but this server doesn't really allow that.
After talking to a old lineage buddy of mine, he was telling me this is Sawk's 6th or 7th server and he pulled this shit before. Release a "high rate" server with an insane grind and then just add donation for gear/ignore all bots/ignore all suggestions. The friend told me the last server died because someone found a weakness in his donation security and apparently flooded the server in +16 SA'd S grade weapons.
I dunno, I guess if a lot of people feel this way we can try moving servers or something. But at this rate ill stick around a bit longer to pvp at bit and then probably quit. Honestly, I don't see this server lasting too long.
Edit: Christ look at this shit lol

I am starting to be weary of the problems as well and yeah the a and aa doesn't bother me so much as the whole SA items and the whole lack of concern about things.
I am going to start doing some research on this duder and I'd love to know more because quite frankly Iam not going to waste my time further if this guy is just going to rake in cash and plunder a community to let it rot instead of just you know building a community.
That and the whole "I'am a mage excuse me as I 3 shot you" is kinda..vexing.
You cant log in cuz the Login server is down. P-servers get alot of random bots and shit trying to log trough their server, eventually it just crashes and needs to be restarted manually.
Also could be a problem you have not updated yet as I had the issue this morning and I had to run the updater.
Actually I can't log in either now. heh.
So after some hunting and a couple dozen pages of various google searches. Sawk is yes a guy with a past and knows how to run a server however he seems to have gone threw setting up quite a few servers that tend to be bugged or not as well functioning and the previous versions also offered fair donation rewards and they don't tend to last. Mind you all of this information is from forums and who knows who's stretching the truth and what's actual fact.
I am not entirely sure how I feel about this now. I don't think he's being a bad guy but I do feel like I am not getting a full story and I am willing to keep on trucking if only to see what happens. Pending I don't rage quit and kill the first mage I see in the street due to a random 5k+ hit.
well I think we should continue to keep playing and see how it goes there's really very little downside to it in my opinion. You get a fun experience out of it playing with fellow members of this awesome forum. Even if the server does eventually fall apart what have you really lost? hell you might get some friends out of it to play starcraft BW or 2 with later.
As funny as this sound, from glancing the forums. Sawks is planning to add Icarus / Dynasty gear which would make the current weapon grind pointless and add a whole new level of grind. I guess I'll stick around a bit and see how it turns out. If Sawks continues the server like this atleast there will be some hilarious drama.
If he is planning to add Icarus / Dynasty gear I'd recommend holding on your SA crystals and not add it to your weapons yet (maybe Icarus will require 10k SA frags instead)
Funny fact, all the servers sawk made were like this...down to the last one.Honestly, this server has the best start of them all since i don't see kamaels soloing 9 people.
I know how this will end. This is probably the 4th or 5th Sawk server. He opens up the donations, people buy a few things,2 months later the server "closes".Another few months later it reopens with no donation refund ( or atleast giving AIO to people who bought it previously) and the circle keeps going. He gets the money, server closes, reopens,he gets the money, server closes, reopens.
Same thing happens with so many lineage2 servers.
The only up side of the server is that you can meet a few cool people and maybe enjoy a few pvp runs now and again. After the server closes you might have a few friends from the experience,it's always a nice thing.
I wont be bothering lvling anymore if really, just gonna merchant and start making a shitload of money....See where the server goes.

"As for the donation, there will be no donation for "items" ( well, if you don't consider fun hats and mask as "items")."
This is a direct quote from the front page where he announced the opening of this new server. I'm not going to play on a server with someone who deceives people and doesn't know what he wants his server to actually be like. In my opinion, it's just a start of what will become a donation heavy server or very inconsistent server in regard to its core features. This was the MAIN thing that had me going to this server -- the fact that there would be NO donation for items. It's ONE week in, and you can donate for this kind of stuff. Too early, too much. Also, a complete and blatant lie.
edit: I'm down to do one last pvp fling. I'm 85 with noblesse so we could start some crazy stuff I think if we had a decent group. Not sure when I'll log in again though.
I'm just gonna put focus SA on my archer who is 79 right now, get to 81 and just pvp nonstop.
Why not enjoy some pvp. Besides, spent 75 on an AIO we might as well get some use out of it. Will probably attempt to refund if he really does take the server down in a month.
Server is back up, by the way. Gotta update again.

Thanks Blizzind for telling us in IRC.
Once he add dynasties(this week I think) S grades are gonna be useless.
if he doesn't add donations for anything beyond what he already has, i don't think it's that big of a deal...unfortunately it feels pretty deceptive for him to have clearly stated no donations for items and then to go back on that so soon.
I'll keep playing and wait to see if he continues to add upgraded donations or not

It took him 5 days to change his mind on one of the core philosophies of his server lol.

Actually I didn't touched the archers at all. I've let the retail Hellbound stats that are gaven from the begining. So far, the server is still in an early state, let's see what happens when the dynasty is here and especialy the dynasty jewels, I am pretty sure it will change the done (like always).
I remember thoses kind of topic from the old Renewal, and when the archer started to stuff up (with attributes dynasty and even icarus), everybody was crying about the archer beeing op criting for 4k on mages.
The most funny thing is that the complain comes from player who do not even have a SA on their draconic bow and so far aren't 81+. People started today to farm attribute stone (even if it's divine). I am sure it will mainly boost the fighters damages (and nerf a bit the poor necros damages).
I also checked the pvp vids, so far archers aren't doing bad if many clan uses mixed party (which is so far the best to win a pvp), and if you check it also take a look, you will see that archers aren't that bad even now in pvp with a group. Of course if you actualy hope to kill a dagger in 1v1 with an archer or a mage, I think you've chosen the wrong class (except if you are lucky with stun and crits)."

You guys complain about donation concerning level or nobless ? Seriously, get back to facts, when you was playing on some "famous" server that I wont name, which had +16 bow and epic jewels in the donation list you wasn't complaining at all and now you complain for +0 stuff (not even +3) which everybody has by now ?
I hope you must be kidding when you check out all the high rate around and see +25 weapons available in donation list.
The donations are more than fair, we always used fair donation system, by fair I mean that everybody can easily achieve it without any particular luck (aka enchants).
The other point is that you said that you will have to work in order to get something in game while a donator doesn't. Do you think the guy who donated is getting the money from nowhere ? He also worked for it, maybe not in game, but in real life, which is actually the same deal.
Now the fact is that every server need an income, as said up the DDOS protection isn't free, hopefully this protection is made by us and so is cheaper than buying it in a company. The fact is that guys, you had been able to play since day 1 without any trouble, except for today were we had some trouble with the latest updates and to make things clear, yes the server got DDOSed. But have you felt any lag ? did people got mass disconnected ? Did you ever notice it ?
The answer is NO (for sure) and that is what we are proud of, no matter the condition, we are able to provide you a server online and running.
Now if you complain about us caring about the server, trying to make updates, trying to find a way to provide a income in time to keep a top level gaming quality, with decent host, decent ping and decent protection what can I say ? We could go in those cheap hosting company for the server and host it in Hetzner for instance, that is where those randoms L2J server goes so they only pay 50€ per month. But we are not that kind of server, we use the money for the server, for the proxies and for you guys.
I am actually more than shocked by the behavior and opinions of some people, I do understand that we do not think in the same way and do not have the same opinion but still ... seriously.

This is total bull and so many people already know it. A level 28 mob landing a sleep on a lvl 82 S grade bishop will never happen in retail. Files are off
There is something wrong with the landrate of debuffs and thats something that people in the forum have actually tested.

Was talking to a crip dude, apparently they are leaving. Reasoning being they played on previous Sawk servers and somehow this one is worse and they don't see it getting better.
So did everyone just give up on the game? I login and there's like 3-4 people in the guild online at any given time. Its pretty unfortunate considering how many people are actually in the guild.

Lot of ppl quit already, including me pretty much too. I hear crips are leaving too cuz this is worse than Sawk's previous servers. and its evident that Sawk just makes a server, makes it run a while, close it, give some benefit to previous donators and open up again, and endless cycle. Ive read on forum that this has been going on for a while,
so I see no future in this server, it will barely last over a year. pointless playing imo. I will prolly go back to my old server which is still going strong at #1 for over 4-5 yrs now... too bad its 90% BR -_-

90% BR means almost 90% of the server population is Brazilians. and most of them don't speak english so you kinda need to learn some basic Portuguese words to make trades and etc. After 4 yrs of playing there, its kinda natural for me. But there are handful of english speakers and some english clans and old BR players know how to speak english too (although pretty shitty) its high rate and thees donation for everything, so there are a lot of donators, but surprisingy its been going strong since 2006 and ppl still participate in olympiad a lot. I played there for such a long time that i have most of the donation gears and hero lvl characters but it pretty tough to start up a new one unless you donate (and its retail like questing except 1,2nd profession and some part of subquest is easier). its gracia final. if you are interested, ill tell you the server.
So I think it should be decided whether or not TL is staying on this server or not. The clan's already pretty inactive, with only ~5 people on at a time. People are starting to switch clans or servers, and I only started L2 again with the intention of playing together with TL, so I think some kind of decision should be made regarding server choice. I don't really see a point in playing if we're just going to move to another server eventually, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

We'll honestly I'm done with this server. Some of the design choices by Sawk is full on retarded, and I don't think he has any wishes to change it. Gear grind has lead to everyone botting (especially for ele stones so botting archers can be useful till everyone has Divine armour sets in 3 months) And landrate for mage is broken.
All he had to do was make farming reasonable to stop people from botting. Also, he refuses to see that his anti-bot measures don't work. I mean retail couldn't stop botting, what drove him to think a 1 man private server could lol. If he really wanted to kill botting just sweep through HB once and ban like 10 bots.
So far his "fix" for botting has been to make mana pots restricted in HB which means everyone botting adds a EE and everyone else either gets a EE bot or lose to someone that has one.
If my partner in crime is done, i suppose i am as well. We challenged the gods, but they just would not come down to face us. We did all we could Wassbix, including taking down their beast!

If people decide to reroll on another server, we can do it again but I'm done with this server. Its hard to ruin a high rate L2 server from being fun. But Sawks somehow managed.
how do you feel about joining another alliance with TL? If we continue like this the TL clan will surely die out without having seen much pvp, if we join some other active (english speaking/ pvp oriented) alliance we might even get something out of the work we've put into leveling those chars, or just go out with a bang :p

I think we should really think about doing this cause there's clearly not enough people in the clan online at a time to keep our clan actually active and a proper group to have in the game. I'd really like Mayuu to not just abandon us and actually provide some information about what is going on as s/he is the clan leader.

TL was always one step behind, and most of the players were unwilling to PvP or just didn't know how / when to.
The lack of any sort of real leadership in the clan was always present, that needed to be sorted out before the server was launched!
Yeah, definitely. I never really played L2 that much before, so I was just screwing around with different classes. By the time I was finished, so was TL. If we're going to move to another server, I think there has to be some sort of structure with the leadership so the clan doesn't fall apart when the leader is inactive for a bit. o:
I can't do anymore. Maybe something else but yeah I dunno this server rubs me the wrong way.
I can do whatever is needed but it seems I am l2blocked as everything I try seems to be hilariously stomp'd on by the very rigid nature of the system of rules of l2.
I am not going to go on a rant about balance and gameplay and it wasn't all bad but it sure as hell ruins my mood to feel like I wasted my first character's playtime and my 2nd one requires the best items in the game to stand toe to toe with the random caster b.
I suppose that's what happens when things don't quite go right. I did enjoy talking and hanging out with everyone but yeah between the brain dead renewal forums the downright hostile attitude of the community and the bots it's just not worth the time.
All it'd take is someone to actively look around I mean honestly how hard is it to play gm and look over the hotspots to see whats going on and ifanything is fishy?
Blargh I love everyone in tl but the rest was well to be frank highly uncivilized.

To be honest I am at this point more inclined to wait for gw2(as it doesn't look like it'll be terrible as the original) or I dunno the fanboy in me wants the wh40k mmo to be good.
i looked around a bit and found some Free2Play stuff. One is Mythos Online and starts in mid May, the other is ARGO Online, not sure when it starts. Both are in Open Beta at the moment.
Free2Play means Cash-Itemshops, this can be some unimportant stuff like nice clothes (without stats) to some fast level stuff (exp drinks) or can be really important and u cant play the game on a high level without them (gear).
Not sure were these to are in terms of Itemshops
i think about checking them out since logging into L2 seems pointless right now

Trust me, been active on the scene since C3. Back then big servers had over 4k on regular periods. Renewal didn't have more than 1,1k tops and it's the best server out now. Most of the new servers that open up are down within max 3 weeks. Even those the most prosperative.
Mayuu quit the game and Jive and GirfnE have his account so I guess they are the ones that can do whatever is needed. It's probably best to create a new clan or get all of us to join one, something like that.
We better do it fast before even more people leave o: I still have some friends who are waiting for the clan to get going (or me, really, but I don't really want to play without TL)

Transferring leadership would be good, I think, if not just remaking the clan. We should probably be more selective about who we let in, or at least have more people able to kick inactives out and such.
I was farming with a guy at Hellbound Isle and joined up with his clan temporarily and today they took Giran castle. It'll be nice having unlimited BSOE's until we reshape the Liquid clan.
Still think we have to get organized somehow instead of playing solo o; if we can't get control of the existing clan, let's just remake? Keep it going for a while, see who's active, and if we don't have enough, we'll merge with someone else? Just my thoughts :c

The server is running perfectly fine. There is a few bots but people are honestly overexagerating it. You don't have to donate to play you can donate up to max level with base S level gear. You still have a lot that you can get past base level S gear.
I would like to see us join together and try and get into another guild cause I don't see us getting a decent guild running
We should all post our character information that we play on so we can at least add each other to friend list so we can still play together even if we're not in a clan/guild for now
type /friendadd <character name> without the < >
My character I've been playing on is: DrBoo
Some of the other decent active TL people I know is: BloodBish Epik Tastosis (Epik AIO buffer) Vodka
I'm still playing on my SR, I usually don't stay on long though due to a lack of people to party with x_x. Tough to play when everything's dominated by BR clans.
i played alot l2 on many diff private servers I remember farming like CRAZY for the dragon Grinder weapon, even with a drop ratio of 2 or 3, it took me months xD i might consider playing it since i only play starcraft 2 like 1hr per day
I want the best pvper race/class, now i know i know, it's all situational and depends on style. I used to play old school Ultimate Online, I was easily top 10 pvper on my server, and I often win first 1 pvp tournaments.
was wondering, is there a class that can wipe a floor of people 1v3, 1v4, 1v5 etc. At the sametime ownage in 1 v 1 solo.
Someone suggested me Human Nerco, Storm Screamer, then another guy said Titan/Destroyer.
I need a true pro here, who's the on peak of the pvp chain, like I die less than once a day in UO pvp. Is there someone with that kind of result can tell me a class I can be?
Human Necro's are really strong. You have a minion to assist with farming and you can do a ton of damage with spells as well as lock down peoples abilitys with silence effects.
What's your name, IGy? i haven't been on tastosis for a week but if I see you, I'll buff you.
Kira, mages across the board are doing some massive damage on this server. Spellhowler is probably generally the most recommended because it can silence other mages and has the highest overall damage.
You could theoretically 1v2 or 1v3 with a spellsinger or spellhowler if you manage to sleep or silence some of them.
Daggers can go on sprees as well as they've got high evasion and archers will have trouble hitting them and daggers have the damage to finish fights along with the chance of lethal strikes. But if you come across a mage or two those won't miss you and if you don't get to them quick they'll take you down.
The pvp healer class, bishop, will change the tide of the pvp greatly though. If a group has one and you don't, you might as well not even try.
Anyways, I am going to try and call up people whenever a Raid Boss comes up and based on participation try and spread out the loot over time.
If you guys want to join sometimes just PM me your main ID and be a class that is either a damage dealer or healer.
I rolled bishop as a sub on Epik so maybe all DDs would be fine.
We won't have successful runs the first few times as we'll have to get familiar with the maps and try and get there quicker to avoid the larger clans but it'll be more effective than everyone solo'ing.
So the obvious question: Can one play with pirated L2 on the server and if so, would one need expansions etc?
I do not own L2 and I'm not going to buy it. If I can try this stuff for free though, I would be willing to invest a few hours to see what it's all about.

how about you go download the free full client including every single free expansion ever made to that point which is very likely linked in either the first post or the website linked in said post.
edit: its linked in the 4th row of the OP, did you read more than the title?

I thought the client was just a 3rd party tool to have the game connect to a private server. I didn't expect the OP nor the site to openly give out warez, I'm pretty sure that's against the forum TOS.
Has any europeans tried getting in on this? I downloaded the 4gb client and installed, but the update is taking aeons. I've had it up for several hours and the Total bar is barely visible. At this rate, it will seriously take more than a year to finish the update.
