Never really enjoyed FTL, too much rng where every other roguelike and rogue I play feel a lot more skill based. Like I can learn and get better instead of mostly relying on luck. Super Hexagon, oh god I'm still spinning. WHY WON'T IT STOP!!!

Well, you also end up memorizing choices with better outcomes of course, but this is pretty common in that kind of games. Unlocking stuff that make the game easier is also common in the genre and it's the case there too, but you can have more than decent runs with the default ship/layout too. The game could be even better though, with more variability/situations, maybe a way to customize stuff before starting a run (kind of like a way to prepare a "build", I would love that), etc. But for the "little" game it is, it's almost flawless and I would recommend it to anyone. As far as roguelikes go, I didn't like Binding of Isaac which to me is way way more RNG-based and frustrating. You can get absolutely horrendous items that remove health and stuff like that all the time, like I did in half my attempts. Or maybe there's a way to know? In any case random item drops that can completely screw you over is one of the worst mechanic I can ever imagine in a roguelike tbh. You can't even learn to avoid them. And since I'm not very good at that kind of game, it doesn't help. Risk of Rain is pretty great/addictive too, it kind of feels like a mix of rogue like and hack & slash. I didn't like the time mechanics first, but it actually ends up being fine. It's not a perfect game by any means but it's super fun. Its biggest issue imo is not even saving your progress when you leave (to resume it later), combined with the fact that it has a tendancy to close on its own if you log out of Windows etc. Other than that, it's great for its price.

There are tons of little ways to optimize your fights and make better decisions. And some of the stuff is acutally not random (text choices) so you learn them (not very exciting but that greatly improves your overall chances to win ofc).

They're both wonders of platforming and graphci design. Trine 2 has the best graphics I've seen to date. It's a craft of love.

Played the first one (bought the second but haven't played it yet) and quite enjoyed it. Beautiful art and music and cool mechanics. Was pretty easy though imho.

Its full of platforming too if you like that stuff. I get pissed off quickly at platforming but the artstyle n music takes that away somehow.

Doesn't matter if it's 15% o 75%, but you never quite get 100%. The original Rogue had something ridiculous like <2%, but it was still fun.FTL is amazing. The gameplay is fantastic (I'm biased towards any game with active pause too), the music is lovely and the whole thing extremely addictive. It is quite a bit RNG-based, and sometimes frustrating, but you actually find ways to become a better player at every single run. Things like swapping power in "real time" when missiles are flying in etc. On December 25 2013 20:15 PoP wrote:As far as roguelikes go, I didn't like Binding of Isaac which to me is way way more RNG-based and frustrating. And since I'm not very good at that kind of game, it doesn't help. I wouldn't even count BoI as a roguelike. It's really more of a grind that changes the game from impossibly hard/tedious, to way too easy. That has nothing to do with roguelikes, and imo, appeals to a fucked up grinding mindset instead of people actually getting better. This trend of grinding in roguelikes really loses the spirit of the game. Failure is supposed to happen. It's a bit like solitaire or mahjong, really. You can't always succeed, but a good player succeeds more often. ps. Thrine 2 was a great experience. Definitely worth it.
