New Humble Bundle is kinda meh unless of course you haven't played Jagged Alliance 2 and it's predecessors . If you haven't you should definitly invest at least the 1$ to get the classic Jagged Alliance games.

Expeditions: Conquistador is supposedly decent from what i've read but i dunno if thats worth 6$ for the unlock . Crossfire is as awful as Back in Action though and should be avoided like the plague on the other hand.

3 hours left on this deal Dark Souls @7.49 , it redeems on steam and this is the lowest price it has ever been, I can seriously recommend it. Unless you get frustrated easily, then you might want to stay away.

Edit: games is back to a more common 75% off discount, it's still a pretty good deal

Amazon says you'll need an xbox or an equivalent controller for that game? Would really love to try it someday but the sale just finished >

You can play it without a xbox controller, but you will very quickly realize why they say it is required. The interface, camera and control are terrible imo. I didn't enjoy it for 1 minute and I have a xbox controller.

And honestly, given how many games nowadays are basically designed to be played on a pad, it is something you should just get at some point and then you never have to worry about it anymore.

dark souls is the greatest rpg/single player (can be MP) experience in the last decade. Everyone should play it and interpret the story as they can.

Its just terrible Gamedesign. The game justs wastes your time, you die to things you cannot possibly know. I played like 30min and quit. I have better things to do then waste time in this Game.

There's certainly good arguments to be made why the game isn't for everyone (as you say, you do die a lot, sometimes quite suddenly), but the game is one of the most well designed games I have ever seen. It's one of the few games where dying always feels like it's pretty much your fault, and you always know how to avoid death the next time around. And it's one of the very few big recent games that feel like an actual game, and not like an interactive story.

There is a difference between doing something silly and dying and the game randomly killing you and telling you not to that thing again despite never having told you not to do it.
I never played Darksouls tho so i could be totally wrong in how it handles things.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

the game is designed perfectly because it is extremely challenging but everything can be done with a lv1 character. It's beautiful. Games these days are so shitty, with hand holding, boring tasks and quests driven game play. Dark Souls is more or less open world, explore, learn, die, succeed. The satisfaction from playing and succeeding in Dark Souls is something I haven't felt in a very, very, very long time.

Dark Souls just has an old game design. It's not forgiving if you mess up, the story isn't told through cutscenes and dialogue but art style and item descriptions, and you can beat the game with a stock character if you really want to. It is a lot more of a game than we usually see these days so I can see why some people may have issues with it. There are a ton of items to be found and lots of interesting locales to explore without a lot of fluff so it is a winner in my book.

One thing i did dislike is how it had multiple areas involving platforming and dying when falling off stuff, when the game is quite obviously REALLY BAD when platforming and/or fighting on really small ledges. The camera stops working, the controls are quite obviously not designed to navigate tiny ledges while fighting enemies, and it is generally just incredibly annoying until you know exactly which way too take and which enemies to fight where. Basically, Blighttown sucks on your first playthrough, until you know where you have to go. Or if you are like me and don't find the bonfire at the bottom.

Other then that, really great game.

Yes. All games are a waste of time. Time to face it and start being productive.

Right after that you can see what Sen's Fortress looks like when you're more experienced.

And that's the beauty of Dark Souls. The area everyone tells you to avoid at the start turns out to be the best starting area for more experienced players. Or Sen's Fortress (which is scary as fuck for the first time and I died a million times trying to slowly go through it) is suddenly super easy once you notice the patterns in which things are swinging.

That's just the gameplay portion. If you're done with the game and/or don't intend to play it (again) any time soon I recommend the "Prepare to Cry" video series explaining some interpretations of the lore in detail. Most lore (and most characters you meet) in this game seems blatantly obvious and simple but becomes incredibly deep with just a few more pieces of the puzzle that are right in your face from the very beginning. That kind of game design just doesn't exist anywhere else.

(massive spoilers)

I'm pretty sure that's not what he means with "wastes your time". I Wanna be the Guy and some of its mods is the most obvious example of a game that kills you for things you cannot possibly expect. It's a diferent kind of game design, where you move forward, suddenly die an unfair death, learn you shouldn't do what you just did, play that part again, die another unfair death, learn another thing you shouldn't do, play that part again, etc. Dark Souls isn't an extreme case of this kind of design, but it's enough for some people to dislike it.

Some people just can't stand having to play through sections of the game again and again, specially when those part are fairly trivial in comparison. It's a style that definatelly isn't as common in recent games, but not all old or new challenging games are like that. There's nothing wrong with liking or disliking it.
