Oh yeah, Men of War turned out to be a buggy snoozefest. Well, it's a bit buggy but the rest is just fundamentally flawed. I guess if I wanted to take a three week correspondence course to learn how to play I might like the game more but I can't really dig into it. Just a lot of AI doing dumb shit and reviews extolling the game for its difficulty.. Fear 1 was the exact opposite for me. It only took me a few "scary encounters" for me to realize that they were completely non-threatening, and a little bit longer for me to guess at the twist. After that, seeing Alma was fun.
I picked up Dear Esther and New Vegas. Kinda regretting New Vegas...I loved Fallout 2, and I loved Oblivion, but I can't seem to get into this one as easily. Modding community isn't as robust either, which is a shame.

the game looks interesting but from the limited time i played it just nothing happened with nothing much to do. so thankful for any pointers well, first of all 2 planets is way to few for any strategy. Some strategies expans until your economy completely crashes. Also, 4x games dont start to get interesting until a few hundred turns in when all available resources are taken and the conflicts start. And if the game is no challenge in general, you need to up the difficulty. maybe your problem is that you arent instantly punished when doing something very wrong and you think "no expanding, autoexplore, automine" is a valid strategy. But i can tell you that you would have lost against an AI that is around your skill level, even if it maybe wasnt apparent right away in the game.
i dont doubt that i wouldve lost. but from my first tries the only habitable planets in my system allr equired some tech , enemy territory wasnt possible so i was stuck to 2 planets. and from then on there was like nothing to do. i built some ships, some starbases and then just thought "well, this is boring. in civ by now i wouldve conquered an enemy, fought some barbarians ,haggled for ressources/tech and explored the world etc".
is there any good guide to get started?

X3 Terran Conflict worth checking out? Looks nice, but I don't really know much about the gameplay.

It's complicated, but if you like 4X sandboxy game, it's a great choice.
Check the egosoft forums, the community is still active.

RAGE has got to be one of the worst $10 I spent on a game.

Yup, and i was one of those suckers who paid 60$ when it came out, hoping, that John Carmack would actually not follow in Blizzards footsteps, taking several years, to make a mediocre game. Since then ive been quite good at always reading as many reviews and getting as much info on a game as possible. Thanks ID.

well you have to admit, the part that carmack worked on was pretty much flawless ^^ the story and mechanics may be not all that bright, but the engine seemed to be pretty much top notch, like the hit responses when you shoot guys and the character movements during conversations etc..

I got a huge amount of fun out of it and been replaying it last week to get in the mood for OMD2. OMD2 looks to be a better game in every respect but if you're looking for a cheap singleplayer experience to keep you busy for a dozen hours or so you should definately pick it up.
You can always try the demo's to get a feel for the game.

King's Bounty: Armored Princess is on sale for 5$ for13 more hours. Anyone have any thoughts on this game? Is it worth the 5$?

Let me add to this that OMD2 contains basically everything that OMD does, plus coop play and a much larger trap/upgrade system and some other stuff. If you own both, you have access to some extra coop levels, so its worth picking up both, but for a few dollars, you can basically treat OMD as an extensive 10-40 hour demo for OMD2. A few minutes of gameplay videos should basically explain the whole experience; what you see is what you get. Goofy, endless cartoon orc slaughter at the hands of static traps, your weapons, and perhaps some allies. I loved it, and it's a great value if it looks like your cup of tea.
Also, any OMD2 people, feel free to add me on Steam if you're looking for a coop partner, I've never played a coop game on Steam and AFAIK there's no automated matchmaking in this game :/ (I'm Wintermute93 on Steam.)

Go for the set of three. They're great games. If you only pick up one you should get The Legend or Crossworlds instead of armored princess. It's $5 for one or $8.75 for the set so you might as well get them all. They are definitely worth the money.

The game/series plays like a Heroes of Might and Magic clone (which makes sense since this is effectively the sister franchise to HoMM) and its very nicely done in that regards.
The biggest gripe I have with this game is the inconsistent difficulty. It is very much a RPG with turn-based combat as you will unlock zones ahead of what you are ready to deal with (save often). There are numerous situations where you run into major blocks where you will not be able to advance simply because the enemy will rape your face handily. This would be fine if you had some (or any for that matter) kind of signal/indication that you will be struggling, but that is very much not the case. At some point for me, the game started to feel like a grind. For those HoMM players, its like you're satisified with the current map and hunting down the opposing forces is just a matter of time. So there will be times where you are just cruising along and there are times where you really do not have anything to do with the one hero and no towns you control.
The items in the game are pretty well done and have interesting interactions.
Worth the 5 dollars if you are willing to finish it.
