I'd also consider Fe to be a hard race btw and it also has something that makes it feel different (lives).

I think there's a number of interesting things you can do with HE, such as HEHu, HEAE, HEGl, etc. I mean, yeah ok so DE makes for better casters typically than HE but and HESu (for example) plays quite differently than a DESu because you'll be fighting alongside your summons rather than just hanging out.

I think HE populates that sort of middling area between easy races and challenge races, and that's fine.

I hate felids because their extremely limited slots, inability to use 90% of the items found in the game, and their generally mediocre aptitudes railroad them into a select few builds. Plus, extra lives. I don't think it's good game design.

They're easy enough to win with, though.

I like HE, but their XP apt is kinda stupid.

Man another VaSu run cut short by needless risktaking. If there's one thing I hate, it's smite-targetting. I hate it because it's FAIR, and I don't want this game to be fair, I want to just be overwhelmingly strong.

Since that accidental VaSu of Ashenzari run I've kind of fallen in love with the build. You can't abuse the food clock via channelling, and Ashenzari doesn't really give you food-consuming invocations, but as a deity he's so awesome. So damn awesome. Even though Sif Muna is like enormously more effective, the game feels empty by comparison. So, if I don't win on the next VaSu of Sif Muna attempt, I'll give VaSu of Ashenzari a try again.

Summoning is getting heavily nerfed in .12, so enjoy it while you can! The first step has already been implemented: summoned bros can't attack if they're out of your LOS.

man I was writing it as VpSu but the crawlwiki thing has Vampires as Va for some reason and it confused me.

Well, the LoS thing will mostly effect my ability to fight things with smite-targetting I suppose. That'll make things more exciting for sure.

Well I finally decided to win an assassin (a KoAs of Trog) so I finished up winning every race and every class at least once, which I certainly never expected to do back in 2011 when this topic was posted and pushed me back into playing Crawl.

Also won a HOCK (stuck with Xom) and a GhIE of chei in the past week or so. Axes have cleaving in 0.12, which is cool, but unfortunately I think their stats got hit a bit too hard in exchange (battleaxes are 15 damage and exec axes 18) so it ends up not really being worthwhile imo. Other people might disagree, especially if you're not good at keeping enemies out of your LOS and fighting 1v1 most of the time.

Other changes that happened since 0.10 but I can't remember if most of them are 0.11 or 0.12: spider branch, Vaults has an entirely new layout (much more interesting) and is trimmed to 5 floors, stalkers are no more, Hell Sentinels replace Pit Fiends and the old Dis endings got some changes, probably more stuff that is less exciting.

0.11 is basically ready for release and I think the next tournament will start in about 3 weeks?

Just started playing this recently and I've been having fun. I've been playing with a kobold berserker and enjoying sneaking up on things and splattering them. My first gift from Trog was a +3, +11 antimagic quickblade that basically carried me through most of the game. After exploring the elven halls like a moron, I got sent to the Abyss and spent the better part of two hours trying to escape. I even built up an audience of around 10 people who helped me survive the demons and eventually return to the elven halls, where I promptly escaped. Eventually I ended up dying in the vaults to some crazy wizard who made a copy of me and ended up surrounding me with demons who could melee me from 4 squares off. Still, it's a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to having my little kobold bring the Orb out of the dungeon in the future.

0.11 Tournament starts October 20, ends November 4. Does anyone here want to form a TL team again? I'm planning on taking this tournament reasonably casually so we probably won't finish top 5 again though.

Up to six players total, if you want to participate just let me know. You don't need to be good to join.

And of course if you don't care about a TL team but still want to play in the tournament then just play your games online from the 20th to the 4th and you're automatically participating!
