Eventually I ended up with a bunch of branded great maces from Oka: one protect, one holy, one antimagic, and then I later turned the +2,+5 one I found pre-lair into a great mace of freezing. Currently heading to Shoals after finishing Pan (oops forgot about shoals); I have 27 armour, almost 27 dodging/fighting, and haste plus low-level translocations ... minotaur aptitudes are ridiculous. This will almost certainly be a 3-streak. Not sure what I'll do afterward, maybe a DD for an easy Conqueror III. | ||

Got the silver rune. Seems winnable at this point, but that's assuming I don't stupidly throw away my chances. Not sure what to do in Snake:5 with Boris _and_ Mara running around (maybe try to land a lucky tele into the rune chamber? I have tele and =ctrl.tele, but last time I tried that, I teleported in front of Boris... Also, not sure where to get my third rune; I guess I could train evo until I can levitate successfully and then do Shoals? (Also, was training all these levels in unarmed a bad idea [I have horns 2 and hooves 1]? EDIT: I GUESS I AM A RETARD) Should I be getting dodge or T&D instead? (Or something else?) Oh, I guess with this cap of SInv I don't need that axe anymore... sucks about that axe training, I guess... Last edit: I hate draining T_________T | ||

Why don't you just kill Boris and Mara? At this point they're not particularly dangerous to you (Boris is an alich who never summons but has a tad more HP, and regular aliches can appear in v:8 no problem) and you have an antimagic bardiche. Don't go out of your way to make things harder on yourself. You can do shoals without lev if you want, just be careful about how you approach the possible rune rooms since you don't want to be standing in water when you fight (digging and disint can help here). Also you don't really need sinv at all to win, I've had several wins where I never had any source of sinv all game. edit: For skills get polearms to 26 asap then finish up fighting and armour and then do whatever you want (probably dodging makes the most sense but it really doesn't matter what you train). | ||

And yes, pain deals 1 hp damage to yourself, but it's also really strong (ignores AC, checks MR instead of EV, also does a lot of damage for a level 1 spell; all of these are very good early on) so that's not really important. edit: Won my NaIE in 38k turns. Went pretty well overall, could speed up a lot with riskier play or with sif + summons instead of veh + conjurations, also would go faster if I had something other than throw icicle for some threats (I spent a lot of time resting up after taking damage from stuff I had to icicle in some parts). Zot went pretty well, ran into three oofs and ice stormed them all to death without tremendous problems. The worst part of the run was the orbrun ... I tried to teleport out of the orb chamber and got an awful teleport into an uncleared lung and almost died, then met several panlords on the way up and you can't outrun them very well as a naga. | ||

hopefully misder gets a win out of this run too (just watched him clear crypt:5 with few problems; lack of channeling seems sorta annoying, because vehumet doesn't return that much magic if you're fire-storming...) gl misder! | ||

I have a crystal ball of energy stored somewhere, but the negative side effects make it seem like it's not work it, even if I invest in evo :/ I have 3 runes already but I'm looking for more. This deteriorating 1 mutation is really annoying though and I haven't found a potion of cure mutation yet :/ I've cleared out the initial ring of vault guards and then some on vault:8 but I was going to look for rElec if possible before going down there again. I think I'm going to clear the dungeon before going down to the vaults again. Fire storm makes everything very trivial (so far). Still looking for a way to get to the abyss to find the rune. There's a trove that wants it :D (at least I think it's this game...). I want to try and get more than 4 at least cause that's how many I got my only other win, but we'll see if that's plausible.Q: I have a scroll of acquirement I found in the Crypt. I have wand of tele and hasting, but I'm missing healing. Should I just go for wand or armor or wait until I finish clearing dungeon and vaults? | ||

I use cboe quite often, especially if I'm doing more than 3 runes. And if I have high evocations I basically always carry one, even if I don't use it much I like having the option. Having sublimation of blood for self-sublimation if cboe drains your mp is good also. Sublimation is also a decent mp-recovery source, but since it's painful I prefer cboe. Statrot 1 is annoying but often not really worth curing, since in effect it's pretty close to -1 to all your stats or so. Annoying, but not devastating. There's a guaranteed Abyss gate on ... d:21? Somewhere in D, anyway. If you want acquirement advice a full character dump is nice, otherwise armour and wand both sound ok depending on how confident you are without a heal wounds wand. | ||

You should probably request staff unless you've got channeling and fire already, otherwise jewelry. Armor only if you've already got great jewelry. Also CBoH is really, really good. There are no real drawbacks as long as you are prepared. A lot of people recommend that you train Evo to 15 for it, but I found that to be too low, and now I usually train Evo to 20 or max on most of my FE/IE's. A DE should have a lot of points to throw around, and being able to consistently spam your spells is a lot better than giving them a little additional power. | ||

I almost never carry staff of channeling around unless I'm concerned about turncount, in which case I only use it to restore MP after a cboe failure so I can cboe again; or my NaIE used it because I only had 6-ish evo and couldn't use cboe reliably (and again this was just to save turns). | ||

I also got about ten potions of cure mutation, which actually ended up mattering because I got deep red glow from a zot trap in spider (and in the process learned that standing on traps while confused is bad) and then I got teleportitis again later from haste glow. And since xom gives you tons of mutations it took me about 5 potions to cure the bad stuff the first time and three or four the second time. Xom also made zot pretty fun, I cleared out the whole left lung and was just approaching the orb chamber, and then Xom decides to drop me into the right lung near the entrance. So I ended up clearing both lungs, but haste (well I quaffed speed potions after my spell haste wore off since those give less glow) + might + agility troll had no trouble tabbing the entire contents of the right lung without healing so whatever. Unfortunately 0.11 xom doesn't have some of the 0.12 changes like him not stat-draining you as much and him putting enchantments on monsters but he's still fun. I don't understand people who like heavy dragon armours on trolls of non-Trog ... I'd pretty much always rather have mda + spells, especially if I get ozo's armour. Started up an opee afterward, planning to go sif or nemelex, we'll see how it goes. | ||
