I don't see how legit competitive gameplay can ever be viable in this game. It's not the game that's wrong in that, but the two just stylistically don't fit together at all. Hope it doesn't end in giant failcascade.

They do have an observer mode, but they seem to opt for first-person views of the faction leaders.

This event was handled so poorly. The communication about what when where and why was so bad. On top of that, any server besides the one where they were streaming it from did NOT reset the continent the challenges were before they happened. So uh yea...some servers had the whole continent ghost capped (2-5am in the morning in EU) before the challenges begin >_> really hard to win "hold most territories for 40 minutes" when your team has whole map at the start of the challenge.

Also, the esports thing is a joke. EvE also has yearly closed environment tournaments which are largely down to rock-paper-scissors chosing of comp. They recently tried to make it a more 'esports' (I hate that phrase, there is nothing wrong with competitive gaming. Chess is a game. Bloody highschool jock envy shit) and it was ridiculous and hardly high level competition at all. I don't get the current obsession with making everything an 'esport', I blame that silly artsandcrafts thing in korea.

Edit: Oh, and I was on waterson for the 2nd round of the UES thing (the one on the ascent). I actually didn't realise it was the event until there was a broadcast, I was just happy to fight on central amerish for once. Node got so lagged out that you couldn't restock from ammo packs and there was a 10m render distance on infantry. At worst it felt almost like hacking, I'd run in to a room with 50 TR in it, put 10 bullets in to the head of each of the 10 TR that actually loaded then run out again. 30 seconds later the server would register the kills and suddenly certs -_-

I just tried to cut off NC from their continent bonus on Amerish on my own (damn it's empty, we need server merges right -now-), but I died at the last base and they took out my respawn. Looked at the map and saw we were losing the Indar continent bonus. Went over there and tried to defend. Were about to lose Alkali Storage to the NC so I swapped over to the NS Salvage Yard, had an intense fight and killed 11 VS reddit scum and was the first one to arrive and take the capture point with 3 medkits used. It's kind of hard to understand why 500 people won't do what they are supposed to do and you are on your own at the point. Then again, it feels awesome to be the one guy who just saved the continent bonus because NS Salvage Yard flipped literally 2 seconds towards us before Alkali Storage flipped over to NC.
It's moments like this that feel so special. As I am writing this, a zerg has formed up and we are taking Saurva and Dahaka. Feels good, man.

Taking Indar on Woodman is impossible during day/evening/night/late night. Only time you could possibly hope to cap it is like during early morning hours and even then only if your faction already controls the Crown. Come what may, no matter the hour, Crown will be defended.

Their usage is very different from the conventional jump jets. They really shine when you have a high point to jump from, but are otherwise mediocre.

which is the best for cliff scaling then? thats prolly the biggest advantage of being a LA. that and going up a level in bases without using stairs

Hover jump jets basically have no upwards thrust, so you can't really jump over or on stuff. I read that some places allow you to press against the wall and scale them that way, but that obviously doesn't work everywhere and is very situational.

However, hover jump jets keep your horizontal momentum, so they allow some very fast movement in some situations. I read that they are a little like tribes skiing.
