DIG and ISK seem to be ok on Miller as VS.
At least they provide some nice battles when we encounter them.

I'm In dig and it's getting pretty decent (they use teamspeak now) and sometimes really good platoons are created due to there being like 2500 members in Dig on miller..

but I'm still looking for a specialized outfit

So I spent about 15 hours on this game on the weekend and while the scale of battles is initially awe-inspiring, the feeling wears off pretty quickly. Initially I lone-wolfed it to get a feel for the game, and I later started playing in organised platoons which just felt like rolling zergs taking or retaking territory. Maybe that is just a problem with the Aussie server due to population, I'm not sure.

Ultimately it felt pretty hollow to me; there didn't appear to be any significant consequences for winning or losing certain territory and my resources were pretty much permanently capped. I also felt like the game suffers from being free as there's an incentive for SOE to keep the rate at which you accrue certs down, and I really disliked being stuck with the one set up for each class.

Game is definitely solid, and I will be checking in periodically to see if the experience improves over time, but for now I think I prefer bf3

View it not as if you're a significant character playing a big role in the epic fight between 3 empires with an incredible background story, but as the simple and enjoyable FPS gameplay you can find in a few games of the genre offered to you at a scale nothing else can replicate. Because that's what it is currently. A lot of people become disillusioned that it isn't more, but to me it seems largely down to the expectation of it being more. It's still fun to play, just like BF, CoD or CS etc. have always appealed to many people.

Had to call a day after piloting for hours when VS started flying scythes at our warpgate and couple of them made some fancy manouvers, like flying from my view left to right, then making a yaw turn 180 (as in, not roll and then, but just A or D) in 0.3 seconds then zoomed right to left and off to horizon at double the speed I could do in my mossie hover3 frame and extended fuel tanks. When the hackers come flying in, it's pretty pointless...

I just dl'd this and started and I'm getting absolutely slaughtered. For now, I want to lone wolf while I figure out game mechancis and such -- any tips so I don't die in the first 10 seconds outside my base?

Join a pub squad that actually does stuff.
Approach enemies from unexpected directions (works best as light assault, but this still applies to all other classes).
Don't mash Q if you're close to enemies and have not yet been detected.

In general though, you can expect to die a lot in this game. Dying is relatively unimportant as long as you're achieving objectives.

Edit: Oh, and if you're getting spawn camped, don't spawn there.

As Spazer wrote, dying is normal. You will die a lot but it doesn't matter.

There is safety in numbers, so don't hesitate to join a squad, it increases your lifespan and good squad leaders will tell you where to spawn safely and what way to take to not die instantly.
