I bought the game today, played about 5 hours on Zealot Difficulty (It goes Casual, Normal, Survivalist, Zealot and Hard Core. Hard Core is locked until you beat the game once) and I just turned it off somewhere in Chapter 6. Wow. This game, so far, is every bit as good as Dead Space 1, and in some subtle areas even better. The combat is basically the same, which is good because the combat in the first game was so tight. There are plenty of familiar enemies that we were introduced to the first time around, and the new ones are just as well designed. The Stalkers in particular scared the crap out of me. All the other elements of the first game that were done so well (graphics, sound effects, pacing) are all matched in this game. One thing that's definitely done better in this game is the transition between levels. It seems like they took a page out of Half-Life 1's book and made everything as seamless as possible. No more contrived end level train rides. I also think they've also done an amazing job with the set pieces in this game. I'm not going to spoil anything, but at several points so far I've had to pause the game after an intense moment and just appreciate the insanity that just went down. I think these moments are better in this game than in the first. My roommate has watched me play every minute of this game so far, and even though he's in the room with me we're both still scared as hell. At one point a television screen turned on unexpectedly and we both swore and flinched. Like the first game, it really knows how to set you up for a scare. It doesn't just throw ambush after ambush at you. It gives you time to recover, to get calmed down. Then it proceeds to unsettle you, creep you out with faint noises, macabre imagery. Eventually there's this nervous tension because nothing bad has happened in too long and now you're on edge. And its not really a formula they follow over and over... trust me they mix it up. Zero-G is handled much better in this game as well. Gone is the clumsy launching from surface A to surface B. I haven't tried any of the new weapons yet (been sticking to my trusty plasma cutter + pulse rifle combo) but I'm sure I'll get to them on my second play through. Last thing I have to say: If you're decently good at videogames and played through the first game, DEFINITELY try it on Zealot. I'm finding the difficulty to be perfect right now. Ammo feels scarce, certain attacks can 1 hit kill you if you're not careful and I've had to retry some of the harder sections a few times before making it through. I probably wont have a chance to play more of this until Sunday night, but I can't wait! If the rest of the game lives up to the first 6 hours I'll definitely be doing a New Game+ on Hard Core to see just good I am at strategic dismemberment. Edit: I just did some research and it looks like you can't start a New Game+ on Hard Core. It MUST be a fresh start. And get this: In addition to it being a low ammo, high enemy damage affair, there are no autosaves and you can only save THREE TIMES total for the entire game. I doubt I'll ever beat the game on that setting.

I loved everything about it: the lack of a traditional HUD, the atmosphere, the combat based around dismemberment instead of just headshots... the list goes on. I had high hopes for the sequel, but the cynic in me said they probably couldn't live up to the first game. I was just so excited about the game that I had to put all my thoughts down. Let me know what you think if you do end up playing it. So, I managed to play some more of the game this weekend. I just started Chapter 11 and my save file reads just over 8 hours played, but that doesn't include all the times I've died and had to redo sections. I'd say I've probably played closer to 9.5 hours, as I've probably died around 50 times (on zealot difficulty all it takes is a missed stasis attack on a charging Stalker to get 1 hit killed). I'm not really sure how people are beating the game so fast. Maybe they're playing it on normal or survivalist and not dying as much, or maybe they're just not as anal as I am about exploring every inch of the levels looking for ammo, schematics and logs. Regardless, I'm hoping to beat the game with just another 4 or 5 hours played. Singleplayer is still strong. Plot twists and some nice mission variety. The only complaints I have is that sometimes you lose track of what exactly you're trying to accomplish, and its really difficult to understand what ghost Nicole is saying to you (so many "scary" filters on her voice make it hard to make out). I've managed to play several hours of multiplayer (up to level 11 out of 60 or so?) and its actually not as bad as some of the reviews are saying. It feels like Natural Selection + Left 4 Dead. It can be really fun on a good team, and really frustrating on a bad one but that speaks more to the nature of multiplayer team games than to the Dead Space multiplayer specifically. The unlockables are fun to chase and the online maps and modes are varied and enjoyable enough for me. I don't imagine I'll ever max out like I did with CoD, but so far I keep playing because I'm curious about what suits I'll unlock at X level and what guns and upgrades I'll get at level Y etc etc, and because it does feel awesome when your team is on a roll.

It's so much better than downfall in terms of art style (excluding the garbage 3D scenes). Some of the scenes were very Death Note anime-esque. Yep, different styles because different directors made scenes from various survivors' viewpoints. You should also check out the motion comic (pre-quel to DS1).

loved every bit of it, ending also was very satisfying. i was expecting much less due to the fact that Issac is voice acted but it really didn't ruin that much. ![]()

1. Feels more challenging than DS1. 2. The Elementary school.... creepy. 3. The Sprawl in it's entirety. The world that they have crafted is delightfully fucked up. The game isn't so much scary beyond some jump scares, but I think the world is frightening in the sense that such a terrible thing is happening. Really enjoyable game so far. Oh and I forgot. This game plays AMAZINGLY well. It is so smooth and looks great despite my shit PC. I could barely run COD without lagging but this ran as smooth as a game possibly can.

I agree the singleplayer was a blast but I was a bit disappointed in the multiplayer, especially on the pc where aiming is a joke lol But I still can't wait for a new release of Dead Space 3 later on in the future which has been confirmed

You don't need to play the first game to understand this one (there is an intro video that explains everything) but the first game is really fun and gives you a better feel for the world. If you play the 2nd game first you will, obviously, completely spoil the first one and the major plot points from it. I highly recommend you play the first game first. Also, watch the special anime/cartoons (downfall its called I think).
