ECM jammer? :d
What is that?
ECM stands for Electronic Counter-Measures, it jams the enemy's air radar and lock-on abilities for a short while. Unlike flares, you use it before you get locked on, not after. The last unlock, 35k points, pretty nifty.
Well its not that because I already have him locked on.
What ECM does is break lock and prevent locking for a few seconds. It does not however help evade missles
Yes it does, however it is very tricky. This small puff of smoke, which consists of small aluminum heated flakes, distracts missile if it flies into it. It takes a lot of awareness, skill and sometimes dumb luck to dodge missile that way as you have to time it perfectly and be aware where thy missile was shot from. It has to fly directly through this puff of smoke which last for few seconds.
I can dodge stingers at 100% post patch by using nothing at all (I fly flares, no ECM), nothing to do with dumbluck and ECM but everything to do with game sense and logic
idk where this rumour / myth comes from, but I think people just dodged a stinger a few times while using ECM so they attribute the dodge to ECM instead of them actually dodging the stinger with their maneuver
Not sure how it's post-patch, but pre-patch, even if you didn't even try, you'd randomly avoid 90-95% of (fired) heat seekers with ECM in a chopper, and around 20-30% in a jet.

all those stinger dodges in jets in that video were because he evaded them by turning, not because of the ECM (like the narrator said)

Can you please explain this avoid-stinger-buisness in greater detail.

You got it wrong, I was not talking about dodging missiles, this is completely normal thing... I was talking about ECM dodging/distracting missiles in a situation when missile flies into the cloud of flakes, and it is normal. As someone above stated, it is most noticeable in helicopters if you deploy it in a last seconds and rocket explodes behind you and you get a jerk from a blast depending how far it exploded and sustain 0 damage. It's not a rumor.

its simple .. all you need to do to dodge a stinger is fly towards it. this of course means you need to know where its coming from but you can usually logically deduce where that is just by where you get locked at.
.He is the best jet pilot that ive seen stream. Hes on xbox but he plays PC as well and dogfights some of the best pilots in scrims and such (he plays for iconic)
I consider myself above average but this guy smokes me every time we get in a dogfight lol.
Alright, I'm done with this game for the time being, just uninstalled.
I did some "testing" (if you want to call it that) over the Easter holidays with all the spare time available and it ended in nothing but frustration. I've played the majority of my time in the game so far as engineer and/or in vehicles and they've simply changed too much and done too little proper testing for this new metagame to be interesting in any way for me.
It certainly comes as no surprise considering we're talking about DICE and EA here but it's beyond incredible how much stuff is broken in this patch and how many things were modified without having any prior issues. The general concept of this patch seems to have been to promote more diverse gameplay and more equality between infantry and vehicles and the various vehicles types amongst themselves, but pretty much every single aspect has gone wrong.
It's pointless to fly anything but a jet on maps with jets. It's pointless to repair now unless you want to give the other team a free kill outside of the tank. On some maps, even with reactive armor and IR smoke, it's suicide to just enter a tank. Jets have become invulnerable to everything but other jets, and the changes to jet speed and maneuverability have changed dogfight dynamics as well.
Instead of promoting more diverse gameplay, they've completely broken vehicle combat; unless you're flying a jet, you're better off on foot on most maps. On top of all of that, I've noticed a surge in base raping / spawn killing since the patch; this probably is just a subjective impression of mine but it certainly did add to my general frustration.
You don't just patch this way. You don't. If you respect your players, you don't simply change the complete metagame on a whim, and if you respect yourself as a company, you don't patch that way - no testing, no QA, nothing. I've had a good time with this game for the first 100 hours or so, it certainly was worth its money, but I don't see myself continuing to play this unless it's treated in a more professional manner by the developers.

This is how I feel exactly. The changes to the vehicles is just completely stupid tanks actually lose to IFVs atm as unbelievable as that is.
Vehicles are now taking a back seat to infantry welcome to CoDField 3.
Suppression is a total joke I was literately only 10 or so feet from another player and I centred up my red dot on his chest with foregrip/heavy barrel and missed every single shot from my full clip when suppressed. The best part of this was the guy looked over at me and then also missed every shot and then we just walked away form each other reloading. It feels like I'm wasted and cant properly shoot.
MAYBE if they admitted their mistake and fixed how shitty they have now made BF3 for many players and patched it quickly I would reconsider but it took them months for this last patch so I wont hold my breath. I'm am I never buying an EA product again. They have shown time and time again they do not give a single fuck about the consumer so fuck them they will not be getting any more of my money.
Suppression is a broken mechanic. Don't get me wrong, a game like this need suppression, but Battlefield 3 handles it poorly. If the game tells you that your sights are lined up and you pull the trigger, wouldn't the most logical thing to happen involve the bullet going where it's supposed to? Nope, apparently the most logical thing would involve bullets exiting the barrel at impossible 45 degree angles.
Maybe they could make it so your aim flinches around every time a bullet cracks by rather than forcing bullets to fly in random directions, so you can still win a 1v1 situation if you have enough control. I don't know, something logical.

I could deal with suppression if like you said the dot=where the bullet goes. If it were to randomly slowly move under suppression it would be way better than it is now
Hey guys im back from "disneyland". So about the patch, i think its complete garbage. There are two things i like about it and thats the new heavy barrel and the minimap. Other than that the game only got worse, for every style of play (other than maybe jets and spraying with closed eyes). Vehicles are weaker, longrange gunplay is heavily nerfed (atleast with the AN94), close and midrange gunplay is just random bullshit thanks to supression. The game isnt more stable at all (never had a crash at release until the first update now my game crashes a lot) and since today im getting kicked by PB after two minutes in every server. They didnt fix MAV glitching, you still get random fall damage. I probably forgot to list some issues but i definitely didnt forget anything that made the game better. Its pretty obvious that DICE doesnt know what they are doing and the way they are communicatng with the community (not at all) is unacceptable. Im gonna hop in some games when i have nothing better to do in the next two weeks but if there isnt a announcement from DICE that they are going to fix this game (atleast the supression that is a total dealbreaker for me) by the end of next week, im out and wont buy any DLC for shure.
The only thing I really like about the new patch is the new SKS, love this weapon, as it really suit my style of play. Other than that, well, I no longer have fun playing assault, because I can't get used to how the guns respond now, I have major trouble killing people with guns I loved before the patch, and its pissing me off.

There's quite a few times in there where he admits the faults of DICE.
When I play on normal servers I too really feel the changes to jets. They just snipe infantry like a sniper at the Caspian Borders anntena. In my home-servers with hardcore I really didn't see what people was talking about with the changes to vehicles. But by Kim Il-Sung some stuffs crazy. Suppression isn't as relevant in HC either as you either die straight up or play really passively and only go for safe, clean kills. Was totally overwhelmed when I tried normal mode.
The one thing the patch got right was making more weapons viable. I'm seeing a larger variety of guns then ever before.
Here's to hope that there will be fast successfull patches
I can confirm they actually buffed MAV riding. I used to only be able to fly it maybe 500 meters into the air and hit an invisible ceiling, now I fly it up to 1000+ meters and then parachute down to whatever point of interest I feel like targeting.
No one that you're aware of but, post patch they said that they encourage server admins to ban MAV riders on their servers and since it is against the ToS they can wipe your stats.

As I remember I bought BF3 via Origin and paypal. There was no hustle involved - besides the obvious Origin and BF3 issues.
