Using 2h daedric battleaxe and elemental fury shout I can kill a landed ancient dragon before my health goes below 450. All that on adept difficulty, cba to turn it up to master, it just means I have to grind alchemy more. ...you realize those are exploits right? Well, considered exploits. If they fight gets ugly get to the high ground and kill anakin destroy all the things. If there's no high ground (like boss fights in some dungeons), just run around and keep fighting whenever they slow down to hit you. Alternatively you can use shouts or conjuration if you have them to finish them off Sometimes bosses choose to get stuck or blocked by some ledge so you can put an ice-cream cone in their heads while you shoow more arrows.. If you have any perks in archery it gets even easier. If you have any poison, its even easier. If you have enchanted bows its easier too. I don't even have one handed or two handed on my archer cause I never needed it. The only thing that made archery more interesting for me was.... tah dah, mods. Adding curve trayectory to arrow shooting (wow, what a brilliant idea! I wonder by bethesda didn't think of that!) and arrow crafting (you have to take time to craft arrows or loot them, instead of having an infinite supply of high lvl arrows). You are making for an argument for literally everything but archery. Sneak is overpowered, enchanting is overpowred, alchemy is overpowered. Just normal archery? Not really. The archery perks actually suck. The only one that helps is the staggering one. Zoom useless, slow time useless, extra arrows useless. Draw/walk faster semi useful but not really helpful. Forget what the last one is. But yeah, try running archery without a super op bow, super op poisons, or sneaking all the time. Fuck, even with sneak, unless you have it at 90+, after a couple arrows the enemies will find you. And then you will get smashed. I've never had a boss get stuck on something. If you are purposely trying to get them too then well,, why are you complaining? Well not trying to get them stuck, just running around trying to avoid them and they get stuck lol. You never fought a draugr near a doorframe in a dungeon? They get stuck for me all the time. Enemies seem to get a stuck a lot too if you stand above something thats tall, but not too tall (like a rock that you need to jump to get onto, a coffin in a dungeon, etc.)
The game wasnt designed with the strategy of backing away from something while shooting arrows at it in mind :/
If something closes distance to me I draw my blades. :s

Is there any point of getting arcane blacksmith? Can't I upgrade my weapons and then enchant them?
Also, if I'm looking just to get the best and imperative perks in Enchanting, which do I get?
Lastly, it's a big shame Skyrim doesn't have auras or something. Something on your armor that makes you look cool or different. If I have frost resistance, I wish my armor look frosted or something. The lack of varied weapons seems lacking also, do we just all end up with daedric blah?

I know there will be mods, I'm still holding out. Not quite ready to implement mods and shit.

It's extremely easy to do, and it does make the game a lot more enjoyable. Check out http://www.skyrimnexus.com and download their mod manager, makes it easy very very easy to manage your mods

The lack of varied weapons seems lacking also, do we just all end up with daedric blah? For ultimate endgame equipment, you're right. But until you get daedric smithing, most items you use will be quest rewards (or random loot), and you will probably want to improve those. The early/mid-game will be much more enjoyable if you can improve all your items, and it's only 1 perk.
The enchanting perks I recommend at firsts are the middle stars (enchanter 5/5, Insightful Enchanter, Corpus Enchanter and Extra Effect). +Fortify weapon/magic and +resist enchants are a better and they don't require you to refill your weapon with soul gems. This lets you cast spells with 100% mana reduction (for free) and do +160% more damage (40%*4) with your weapon of choice. You can complete with weapon enchantments later on in the game if you want, when you've perked your weapon/magic skills and smithing.
There are mods that lets you dye armor.
Just a warning: Maxed smithing and dual enchanting makes the game pretty easy, even on highest difficulty. If you're looking for a challenge, don't go dual enchanting and dont equip 25%*4 fortify smithing gear when you improve your items.

finally found the first character that is fun playing for me..sneak archer :D getting one shotted as a conjuration/melee char wasnt that great (and so many casts..switching all the time on the ps3 wasnt much fun). 2h melee was fun until you met some draugr that still oneshots you (while a fucking dragon doesnt O_O)
but the whole archery/sneak thing is quite fun! even tho i dont understand why some enemies dont see me when im right in front of them in a dark corner. + dark brotherhood armor looks/is awesome :D
love skyrim.

So I've been playing as a pure mage type character in no armor after doing a heavy armor/archery/1handed/sneaking character. After 24 levels I STILL haven't found any magic gloves and boots in the game. Even after finishing the mage's college questline. I've cleared out multiple dungeons with nothing but spellcasters and none of them have magic boots or gloves. They don't show up in any stores even though I can buy magic heavy and light armor gloves and boots. I haven't even found any with bad enchantments. I'm wondering if there are going to be any in the game at all. It seems like a weirdly huge blunder to exclude them from the game. Particularly since the Alteration tree has specific perks that reward you for not wearing armor. Did Bethesda think running around with 0 armor was just too overpowered? They had to scale it back by not giving you any 0 armor magic boots and gloves.
And I know I can just enchant a set for myself, but that's not really the point. The point is that I HAVE to going enchanting if I want this gear whereas I do not think there is any other instance where the game forces you to do this. Maybe this is completely intentional and by design, but I still find it very strange.

Gloves can be bought from merchants, boots are pretty much inexistent when not crafted. Same thing applies to bracers.

As you mentioned enchanting is always an option and since you want to play pure mage, enchanting is a must. You basically need destruction, restoration, alteration, and enchanting. or if you want to play more of a summoning type, go for conjuration instead of destruction. with the dual cast system enemys shouldn't get close to you since you can stun them and with a bit of evading arrows don't hit you all that often At some stage in the game and if you mix it up a little you can go for some armor later on i am now at level 54 and i walk around with a legendary heavy dragon armor with double enchanting on it and with the master alteration spell and almost max magic res there really nothing that can damage me besides some suprising traps ^^
if you go with the enchanting way, you should kill some thalmor mages, they have 0 armor boots and gloves that look quite good as well

So i am gonna start a new game with 5 rules to not break this game:
1: only use the 6 trees the race u play is advanced in
2: no buying of ingredients/ores/soul gems
3: no companions/horse
4: no fast travel
5: no quick safes

level 21 playing a 2hander Nord. Thing is fun. Just got my house in Markarth and found a full dwarven heavy set and a elven greatsword. Thing is a beast. Really need to start working my enchanting more so i can get some magic resist.
I was tryin to start the mage line quest but i get one shot by a master conjurer trying to go to Winterhold (at Fort Kastav)... Should i be going all the way to Dawnstar? Or should i just pay the dude at the stable to get me there ? Or just run like crazy and hope he forgets me ? i tried that but he stayed aggro for awhile, so i turned around and baaam one hit. i got almost 300 hp
Any potions against lightning ? I think the spell is spark right ? only potions are resist magic ?
Pretty fun game i just wish the combat system was better. I either one hit ppl or i get one hit... dragons are a joke (haven't found an ancient one yet). only bosses are somewhat of a challenge, and even then not really ... Maybe i should try Dragon Age?

3+4 will mean you will need to leave a lot of stuff behind you in dungeons or not loot bodies as you will not have a pack mule to carry them and it will take forever for you to unload your inventory at shops and then come back to pick up other stuff.

Default difficulty. Adept i think it is? Sometime i switch to master but then i have huge problems when i have 3 enemies on me..
Shock potions helps against lightning?

There three kinds of magic: Fire, Frost and Shock shock is for all kinds of lightning based spells like spark, thunderbold, chain lightning and stuff shock resistance is quite good, because shock spells are probably the most difficult to dodge
when you have problems with a lot of enemies try freezing them with the Shout Ice Form, in my opinion the most usefull shout in the game (besides whirlwind sprint perhaps ^^) there are potions and enchantments which reduce cooldown for shouts if you cant kill enemies quick enough
Edit: If you don't have Ice Form yet, try google for the location. i guess somebody has written down all shouts and locations somewhere

Uhm ... so I started a new game on master. 1) Go to riverwood and get friendly with the archer. Train / pick pocket / train / pick pocket and level up to 12-13 or so I think (50 archery). 2) Did a little killing in the nearby area (the mine, some bandits, nothing big). 3) Went to whiterun, to arcadia. Train alchemy / pick pocket / train alchemy / train pick pocket ... to lvl 22. 4) Into the inn, start a brawl with the singer, go into corner with a mix of light and heavy armor. Difficulty novice ... .... sleep ... .... work ....
Level ... uhm, well I'll update when I get home ... then I'll do speech, smithing, enchant, and tonight afk while sneaking near a giant ...
The game just seems ... quite a bit exploitable with it's leveling system. But on the other hand, if you try to play on master, and end up doing tradeskills too early, you kind of mess up your character because the opponents are too high a level for your gear.
So choice seems to be ... either hold off on tradeskills until lvl 25-30 or so ... or just level up whatever you want in the most efficient manner possible. On my second character, I ended up being way too weak for playing on harder difficulties, since I did smithing too early, and was playing around with pick pocket etc, and ended up lvl 18-19 with lvl 1 gear.

I'm at level 19 with a wood elf and i have onehand to level 45 and block to level 70. How i got to level 70 block is funny story, i abused some boss, that kept hitting me with his axe while i put something heavy on my right mouse button so it would always block. Then i went eating, got back 5-10min later, drink some potions, another 10min, more potions then about 10min more (i think it lasted about 40-50min) and i got my block from level 40 to 70, i could've went for 100 or over (is it capped?) but i got sleepy and decided to finish him and sleep. Now i wish i hadn't done that, my shield blocks so much right now that it got too easy .
Enchanting seems very powerful, not even sure i wanna get it.
This game lacks item variety, seriously... I'd like to get some more items when i loot random opponents. I think even diablo 1 had more variety.
Otherwise the game is great, but it gets annoying at times, small quests all around the map, makes me consume more time travelling than fighting.
