Just a little precision : you can't be running around casting soul trap on random enemies, because if you don't have a gem of the proper size for the enemy you just kill, its soul is going to in a gem one size larger, essentially "wasting" that gem. If you're not careful, you're going to end up with a lot of petty and lesser souls stored in common and greater gems. You need to know exactly which enemies gives you which souls and how many empty souls of each size you have in your inventory, and use a third weapon when you find an enemy that you can safely soul trap. It doesn't matter. For improving enchanting any soul gem will do. And if you want to enchant something that you will use buying a grand soul gem with a grand soul inside is much more simple. Well yeah, I guess it doesn't matter as much as I made it sound... but enchanting with lesser gems will give you less money.

might be a bug, but i solved that problem with grand soul gems having filled in a petty soul simply by dropping them to the ground. the souls then disappeared O_o

Oh, wow. The sound suddenly decided to start working again...

Anyone else having the strange problem where when you look at an npc he gets muted? To talk to people I have to continually look off to the side of them, which gets to be a really annoying minigame when you talk to more than one person.. I also had this problem with Space Marine, have no idea what causes it.

Just curious, for the guys on TL who play the game are you guys playing it on a console or the PC? Looking at the Beth forums made me worry that the PC version is just bug-ridden, lol, but I don't know. If it's anything like B.net forums, then that's the last place I would want to check in terms of making sure I clear up any bug fixes before I start playing.

I'm not 100% sure where to check this, but if you have your speaker settings set up for someing like 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound, and you use headphones to play, the voices when you look directly at a NPC will attempt to play though the "center" speaker. I believe it's a bug where the game doesn't compensate if there isn't actually a center speaker active. If you want to use headphones I'd likely switch your default sound settings to headphone in the control panel in windows until someone has a better answer..

You're better off on the PC as you can fix a lot of the issues with the command console (google around), where console gamers would be dead in the water with that.

only had like 2-3 real quest bugs for me. only one of them major but it solved itself after doing a quest related to it. also on pc you have the console to fix things which helps with many possible problems.
stability wise i didnt have a single crash, tabbing is awesome, driver update solved some flickering issues..
if your pc can run skyrim then there is no reason to buy it for console.

Does that infernal demon dog push you guys around too? Geez, its nice having an invincible dog and everything, but so annoying.

I have 0 issues running Skyrim on max settings. No crashes, no problems tabbing, no bugged quests, nothing. I've got 3 characters at lvl 50 as well, so I think I've been playing a fair amount. I think the voices of the people having issues will seem very loud and make it seem like everyone is having problems with the game because they all have something to report that needs fixing. The people having no problems probably won't say anything because they're content with their experience and don't have any desired changes/fixes to vocalize.
My roomates have been playing it on 360 while I've been playing it on PC and it really is way better on PC. I only recently switched to PC games from console, and I'm seriously confused about why I waited so long. Skyrim in particular looks way better, runs smoother, loads faster, everything seems improved over the 360/PS3 version. My only possible complaint is that sometimes the menus are a tad clunky with the mouse, but that really isn't a big deal at all.
Seriously though switching from playing BF3 and Skyrim on Xbox 360 to playing them on PC has been a night and day difference. The PC experience is vastly superior to the console one. The consoles are easier to deal with I think, which is really the only advantage they have over PCs (or well I guess easier to deal with and [arguably]cheaper).

Depends what you want out of the game I guess. The game definately runs smoother on console, there are just a ton of bugs for the PC version and from what I've heard there are less on the consoles. The game crashed, got stuck and simply didn't work well for me on PC. There were bugs assigning weapons and a few (main)quests got stuck for me. Also the interface sucks on PC and is definately made for consoles.
On PC you do have the console to fix some things though which you can't do on console. If you are used to it it also controls easier I guess but if that doesn;t matter to you console is probably preferred (because the interface is definately designed for that). Finally a lot of the quirks might be solved for mods on PC, which won't happen on console.
So my advice if you don't care much between keyboard or controller is to get the console version if you just want to play the normal game. Get the pc version if you want to use mods and wait for some stuff to get fixed.

The amount of extra effort you save is worth more then a bit more cash.

On PC you can force dumb ass npcs to stop using their goddamn bow instead of their sword and whatnot
Also playing Elder Scrolls games on consoles just seems weird to me lol

"If you don't care much between keyboard or controller get the console version"? If you don't mind what you use then you can get it on PC and have the ability to choose kb+mouse OR gamepad.
Game runs "smoother on console"? What nonsense. Consoles run the game at 30 FPS at a shitty resolution, low detail and long loading times. The interface is bad on PC, yes, but it is bad for ALL platforms - it is no better or worse on the PC. At least on the PC we have the ability to mod the UI to improve it (interface mods already exist), or simply plug a controller in if you want. All platforms have bugs, but PC users can actually do something about those bugs as we have access to the console (afaik it is actually the PS3 with the worst bugs as they are getting corrupted savegames ruining their progress!!).
The big thing is that there is already a load of tweaks and mods available on PC, and that's before we actually have the proper toolkit. Expect a HUGE array of improvements and mods when that arrives. Think the textures are poor? You can improve them. Think the visual feel of the game could be changed? You can change it. Think dragons are too weak? Buff them. Wish the children weren't invulnerable? Grab the mod. Wish you could battle 10 dragons at once? Do it.
If you have a PC that is capable of running the game there is literally no reason to get the game on a console.

If the exact same issue is happening on multiple games, which you say is the case, then extremely unlikely to be an issue with Skyrim itself - some audio relationship with your computer is going wrong. Check your computer audio settings and skyrim's (and Space Marine) audio settings and make sure everything looks ok. Experiment with different setups (eg changing to headphones instead of 5.1 etc) and see if that helps.

So... I am stuck in a quest. I need to get to the archmage but using his door always crashes the game, I have tried the console. GetStage <id> - Used to get the current quest stage for given quest ID (use command ShowQuestTargets for IDs). SetStage <id> - Used to set the quest stage (Useful for bugged quests), for given quest ID (use command ShowQuestTargets for IDs). Common usage is to add 10 to the stage number given to advance past a bugged portion of a quest.
got the id, got the stage, and it is 70, but aparently it is the last one, so it wont recognice stage 80... any idea what can be done? I want to keep playing the mages quest line.

Since the new patch I literally can't make it 10 minutes without a crash from having had it relatively crash free since the previous patch...

Thank you! I was getting mad, wondering why the game was not starting... A bit annoying for the .ini files but I did not have that many changes so did not take too long to have everything back to normal. I guess they really do not have a QA department in this company...
