Well...give me an example of a game like Skyrim where the AI is better? Sad fact is that AI in most video games sucks balls. You're complaining about computer games, not about Skyrim. If you are desperate for competition you shouldn't be playing singleplayer RPGs... (Although I will admit they should make an -ultra- difficulty with things like hard caps on bonuses to skills, enemies who have spells like lower resist, enemies having 3x as much HP and 3x as much damage, etc.) You want a list of FPS'swith better enemy AI? FEAR FarCry COD Deus Ex Half-Life Having enemies that will never hit you with any amount of cover usage/kiting but if they do kill you in one hit is a sign of reallly bad AI. I literally haven't been hit by an enemy in the last hour of play, that wouldn't be possible in any other major FPS title. Ok. How many of these games are expansive non-linear swords and shields quasi-medieval hack and slash FPSs? Hmm yes...on closer inspection...0%. So none of those examples work. Second point. None of those games have particularly good AIs. They are all batshit poor really. Evidence is the way they play in comparison to the way humans play. The only reason you think they are challenging is that the enemies have guns. You think Deus Ex would be hard if all the enemies just had batons and the occasional bow + arrow? If 100% quality AI is human level, and 0% is a rock...I would say all games we have now are between 1-2%. But don't worry! If you hate the Skyrim AI you can always go and play all of those other non-linear swords and shields quasi-medieval hack and slash FPSs!!! Ehhhh it's not that bad to criticize the AI. I understand how hard it is to program quality AI in a game as expansive as this, but honestly it could use some serious improvement. Right now it feels like I'm fighting armies of zombies. You are a random townsperson inhabiting a bar. A stranger walks in and after an argument with the owner, starts firing lightning bolts out of her fingers and incinerates two guards, probably blasting their remains and boiled blood all across the walls of the establishment along with a horrendous crack of thunder and the crisp stench of fresh ozone. Your next move is to: A: Ohmygod she just murdered bob and holycrap lightning and oh god run for your life!!! B: Draw your dagger, make a casual snide remark, and walk towards the mysterious stranger. Or wild animals. Getting attacked by a single wolf while riding around on my horse is simply a nuisance. The wolf then fights to the death after being burned alive by FIRE, which you know, animals usually are rather scared of. How much cooler would it be if they hunted in packs, watched/followed you for a bit, just staying out of range until all of a sudden you get jumped by 4-5 of them? I've killed numerous giants/mammoths without even taking damage, as they just can't hit you. It's not a skillful affair, just monotonous. Shoot them with a spell over and over again until they're about to hit you, then run to the side and past them. They'll miss every time. Rinse and repeat. Giving them more HP and more damage as difficulty levels increase doesn't change the fact that they'll still *never* hit you, so all you're doing is prolonging a boring fight. Just enemy AI in general is so dull. Obviously zombies or draughts or whatever they're called should be mindless lumbering idiots shambling towards you with no regard for their own safety. But bandits? Come on, show some humanity. Don't walk casually in a single file line towards me. Attack in groups, or at least in pairs, or try to flank/surround. Archers standing totally still in plain sight shooting at me, (and occasionally hitting their friends), while the melee guys just walk straight at me mindlessly gets dull. I hate that the mechanics for a fight are super simple, but the number of attacks required to kill something is high. I would so much more prefer to need to make decisions in battle, or directional attacks/blocks/specials or anything that made combat a little more dynamic. Sometimes dragons get confused and just NEVER FREAKING LAND... EVER. I had one dragon follow me for like 10+ minutes. It never came down to land and attack me, and just flew around in circles above my head just outside of range. I couldn't hurt it, and couldn't fast travel due to being in combat. Very frustrating. Also if this game has taught me anything it's that bears are far scarier than dragons. Plenty of my deaths have been just not noticing a bear and then getting mauled in like 1 hit lol.

Enjoy the game for exploration, story, size of the world and voice-acting. AI sucks, but I don't really care.

Just to add to that. I'd love it when NPCs would react to the way I'm clothed. When I'm dressed like a freaking assassin, I want those people to be either scared of me, have respect, or get out my way in the first place and the guards be especially suspicious. When I'm wearing guards clothes, I want people to approach me to look for protection or ask for the way (latter is a joke). If I'm wearing the clothes of an important, recognized figure of the world, they should recognize me as such. If I'm wearing townspeople clothes, people shouldn't even bother talking to me, and if I'm running around with all bling, then people should try to crawl up my ... Right now, you can walk around in a weird iron mask, with 2 swords and a dagger on your belt, and people behave the same, except of the rare comments they throw at you once in a while. Also, Kids in skyrim find it funny, if you run around almost naked. Doesn't change anything gameplay wise though. That would add so much to the role playing character.

I did pass through some breathtaking scenes and a frustrating puzzle during my run through the story. Overall, it's an interesting story that would've been even better if I hadn't lowered the difficulty to rush through it, though I still feel that the numerous side-quests are still the true meat of the game. + Show Spoiler + Also, does anyone know if completing the main quest gets rid of all dragons entirely? And is there any more reward other than the extra summoning shout? I didn't really play much after that.

Exactly. Actually RP it and if something is too strong for you to go head to head against and defeat just run away. Or, you can just kite everything to death and then complain about it. TES AI has been like this forever, so I don't know why anyone is surprised.

So what i do is roleplay my char and delay my powercurve, that way i get about 100 hrs out of one playtrough. Can have more than 1 enjoyable playtrough because the roleplaying makes things very different at least 2-3 times. But this is only possible if you are really into roleplaying and not just in it for some fanatsy sword fights. But then, the 40 hrs you got out of it are still better than the 8 hr campaigns that are normal these days.

I'm having a lot of fun with the game, but voice acting is not something I'd tote as an example of a good feature, lol. Please do not be alarmed while I continue to speak in a nice humble old-man voice while the magical maelstrom rages behind us." Some of the lines are well delivered, but some of them are soooooo corny and/or given in such a non-matching-the-context voice. I'm seriously waiting for the guy who does those "worst video game lines" impressions to do this game, haha.

It's not good, but I think a lot of us were pretty badly beaten up by the awfulness of the Oblivion voice acting. Skyrim's VO work is incredible in comparison...but it's still not good.

![]() Talking about frustrating. Theres a certain Deadric quest involving a certain dog that you have to follow for what felt like hours before we reached the destination. He keeps stopping for every enemy around, and walks straight into a bandit camp, have me kill everyone there, only to double back and find another route around.

Also.. the ai is starting to really break my suspension of disbelief. I'm winning so many fights because zombies get stuck on doorways or bears don't know how to navigate small rocks. It's disappointing that they haven't really progressed at all in that regard since Oblivion.

I guess I want like the combat from Mount&Blade, and the storytelling/voices from Mass Effect. It's really the tiny things that add up and make it hard to lose myself in the game.

I'm really enjoying it, and I'm level 20 or so so I've put some time in, but there's just soooo many little things that completely kill my immersion. I *am* roleplaying to an extent for the record, so I'm not just trying to blast my way though the game or quests or w/e. I just find it hard to really immerse myself when so many tiny things feel off. I guess I want like the combat from Mount&Blade, and the storytelling/voices from Mass Effect. It's really the tiny things that add up and make it hard to lose myself in the game. It requires more willing suspension of disbelief than a lot of games, yeah. That's just a tradeoff I knew I'd make as a person who loved Morrowind. In return you get something that's wide open in a way almost no other games are. Oblivion just had more bad than even I was willing to handle though and offered less in return.

+ Show Spoiler + I came across a Lighthouse in the North along the shores. There were a few dead people, and after taking the time to read their journals I learned that it was a Redugard family new to the location. The mother was supporting the father, the father wanted to live in the lighthouse so that when he died of old age his wife could put his bones in the lighthouse flame, allowing him to "forever overlook the ocean". And the two kids well..they were just along with them. Long story short, after defeating this huge bug-like boss (that was INCREDIBLY hard as a Melee, let alone on master difficulty) I had the option to take the dads remains from the boss' corpse. Thinking it would be a fitting end after all their suffering and eventual death from the monsters I decided to put his remains in the lighthouse as he wished. Upon doing so I gained a permanent passive buff called Sailors something..I forget the second word. But it was 15% bonus to healing spells, quite AMAZING for my Paladin-esque character. Putting the remains in the fire wasn't encouraged, nor would I have known or even decided to do so if I hadn't taken the time to read the journal of the man or his wife. Hell I wouldn't have even found the Lighthouse had I just decided to fast travel back to a city/quest destination. The fact that there are rewards such as this that almost encourage roleplaying in this game is just so cool in my opinion (let alone I got a buff that helped my character in such a huge way). I would HIGHLY recommend atleast trying not to fast travel as much. Going without any is deffinately frustrating at times, but atleast limiting yourself will allow you to truely appreciate the time put into this game, in my opinion.
