I don't know where the cutof is but you definitely stop earning perks after awhile.

I might stream if I can get it going at a decent framerate, more to just help people who are teeter tottering. Should have a mic and can answer questions and stuff as I play.

www.giantbomb.com is doing a 12 hour marathon at 11 or 12 am pacific on thursday with Greg Kasavin. He did an Oblivion marathon five years ago when he was editor-in-chief at Gamespot. It should be really cool. I'll be glad to see it since I can't get the game yet.

Oh I remember that maraton, Greg Kasavin is great guy and cool person to watch play, I'll do the playing by myself thou this time :D

Hmmm, after searching around for "Skyrim perk limits," it seems that there there is theoretically no hard perk limit, and the player earns one perk per level. Previously, there was a 50 perk limit that was removed.
However, there is a soft level cap at around 70 where all skills are pretty much maxed out and it becomes almost mathematically impossible to level up further, so I guess the real perk limit should also be around 70. Apparently, you can max out half your skills at level 50 and then max out your other half of skills within 20 to 30 levels after that.
I pretty much got the info from some random Gamefaqs threads. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/615803-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/60044253 http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/615805-the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/60788475
Then again, mods should save the day on the PC version.

Day[9] tweeted this an hour ago:
Hello my name is Day[9] and I'll be streaming Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Friday for about 8-10 hours. Festivities begin at 9am PST! #AWWYEA It's too bad I'll be playing the game instead as I imagine this to be really interesting. I'm sure the long play through will be of great enjoyment to him after his Amnesia antics.

What...the...hell.
I just went to Wikipedia and looked at the system requirements.
I know that this thread has had its share of Steam hate for the past few pages, but I just can't see why Bethesda would do something this radical.

*Shakes fist* At least I'll have something to look forward to.

I remember Day[9] mentioning before that he sometimes suffers from motion sickness whenever he plays an FPS. However, he has recently been extremely dedicated to finishing up streaming Amnesia (with him announcing that he'll finish up Amnesia on Wednesday :D), so I expect great things out of his Skyrim session. If Skyrim ends up not working on my laptop, perhaps I will live vicariously through Day[9] :D

This fits into my plan perfectly! I have Friday off and will be getting the game at 12AM CST off steam. Then I'll play it til I can't and get as much time put in. Then I can watch Sean stream at 11AM CST the start of his Skyrim session and won't have to worry too much about him getting ahead of my playthrough. WOOT!

Just bought it on steam too, first time ever buying stuff on steam
So we will be able to start dling it on thursday now!? CANT WAIT!!

i literally can't wait for this to come out, wish my laptop could run it but i'll settle for it on the xbox for now...

Oh great I'll tune into Day[9] too, at least for first two hours.. until he starts spoiling stuff for my run

Also with the way I play at least I'll hit the cap long before then, cause I'd never use the other skills that my character, as I'm role playing him, wouldn't be able to use.

I honestly wonder how viable that is now that the third person looks so much better.

Cause it's a console port and those are console level requirements? idc cause the game still looks amazing and PC mods will make it look even better. I don't need the pretty as long as it plays well.

?
There is nothing in the system requirements that is radical.

I think he might be referring to the internet access for steam activation but I'm not sure, can't see what would be the big deal with that.
Though only 6GB HDD space requirement seems a little low when short corridor shooter games like Mass Effect 2 require around 15GB. Maybe I'm missing something relevent.

Actualy it's not available on steam for my region (Poland), wonder what are the alternatives for digital purchase in that case
|
I went against my better judgement and bought the game before trying it out first. Steam releases are too much of a hassle to acquire, and I loved Oblivion/Morrowind so I might as well.
You can't pre-load yet, though

Fallout 3 was about 6.5 gigs. New Vegas is about 6.8 gigs for me (but I'm using mods).
I wouldn't be scared of the 6 gig space requirement. Previous Bethesda games have had TONS of content despite having lower HDD space requirements than other games.
I also recently read an interesting article that mentions the optimization:
On the most recent episode of the Major Nelson podcast, Todd Howard (Game Director at Bethesda) explained some of the changes in Skyrim that allowed for this technical feat. In order to save some space, procedural generation has been used, but less than you'd actually think. It was used to map out much of the environment in Oblivion but Bethesda decided that they could do a better job themselves. Only the most mundane things have been left to automatic processes, like where grass grows, where snow collects on objects and where insects live. The main reason that they were able to fit so much content onto one disc is the redesigned game engine. Because it can draw so many more objects on screen simultaneously, they needed a way to quickly stream graphical content off of the game disc. To accomplish this, they needed to push their data compression to maximum efficiency. The side benefit of this was a much smaller game. Skyrim is a bigger game than Oblivion, has 50% more dialogue (60,000 lines!), and yet they still had extra space left on the disc at the end of development. http://www.hex19.com/blog/the-top-five-features-of-skyrim.html
