But for reals, why all the hate on steam? I haven't come across a single problem and I've had it for well over a year. How can people say no to Skyrim JUST because it's on steam? For me, I think it is a combination of a few things. I first tried Steam like 4 or 5 PC's ago, and back then it sucked up resources tremendously. There was no way (iirc) to disable it and it launched everytime you turned your PC on. It has probably improved quite a bit since, but that was the first impression I got from it. It is being forced on us. This is probably more of a gripe to direct at game develepors, but I would be less critical if it was an option rather than a necessity. Convenience sure, but so is Wal-Mart for that matter... and there are a whole host of reasons not to support them. I happen to love Digital Download, and Matrix Games is a company I like to support (Digital Download with serial number activation). The point of Steam isn't to combat piracy so much as it is a way to maximize profits by cutting out the used game market. This level of greed is a bit of a turnoff for me, and Blizzard/Activision is doing the same thing with bnet. At least you don't need to use third party software I guess. I also don't feel comfortable have everything centralized with one company having control over my entire library of games. Too big to fail? :D Offline mode is still buggy for Steam. Oblivion gave me many hours of enjoyment when I couldn't pay the internet bill for a few months. I only have two choices for internet and they both suck. I don't agree to the terms and conditions for either company, but have no other choice if I want to stay online. I would like to be able to play Skyrim offline whenever I want, and although I don't know all the circumstances about the complaints concerning offline mode, it sounds like there are issues with it. So all in all, I suppose it's a mixture of personal preferance and matter of principle. You probably dont often go to places where you don't have access to internet. I've been having my share of problems with steam and single player games. I don't HATE steam, I'm simply disappointed that because of hackers, I'm gonna be FORCED to use steam to play to a single player game. I love steam in fact, for every multiplayer games I purchased on there, I really liked the platform. But what I hate is; not being able to play a single player game without being connected to the internet, all that to "prevent" hacking which happens anyway.... -_- Whilst I've never tried Steam offline myself I was under the impression that you could set it up so that in future games can be played offline? A quick google search yielded this link: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555Though I haven't tested it.
Yeah, this work. Each time I leave I do this.
The problem is, sometimes it screws off, and doesn't work, and you have to reconnect to the internet, to log into steam and click "Play offline" again.
I never said "Damn, I don't have internet, I wont be able to play Skyrim!", I said it sucks that I'm forced to use steam for a solo-only game.
If I hadn't have any issues at all with steam's "Play offline" feature, preventing me from playing for a week when I have the most time to play, I wouldn't care. But this is actually the case, and for a single player game that I'm expecting to pass soooooo many lonely hours playing, I'm extremely disappointed.

actually stream is quite a big deal for me because I always forget my account details as I don't have any games other than TF2 (which I play very little of) and somehow the last time I tried it, the stream could never load up properly

Ah then yes, that makes perfect sense. For the record I wasn't meaning to defend Steam* but I just thought the offline mode worked and meant to provide a useful reply to hating to have to connect to the Internet for a single player game.
+ Show Spoiler [* Actual Steam View] + I don't mind Steam really but I still buy physical games where possible and I hate having games that rely entirely on one company not failing/stopping working/cancelling my account etc.

You can preload steam games 2-3 days before release 99% of the time and play the moment they unlock (given there are no issues, had to wait till 6pm on the release of black ops.)
I honestly dont see what all the arguements about how to buy / install this game are about lol. Steam is there as a helpful tool, although it has been somewhat forced on the community to reduce the used games market by a shit-ton.
Although it does nothing for piracy, skyrim will be cracked and pirated 2-3 days after its release on friday

Too excited that skyrim's here in 2.5days, can't bother thinking about anything other that this :D
Hell, I should be giving a boost for work right now, to make sure I'm not behind when I take my skyrim vacations, but what am I doing? Ranting about one of my favorite platform ever, and it's possible implication with my future (probably) favorite game of all time...
I guess I should go back now ^^

Their PR guy (or whoever that dude is who posts that stuff on twitter) already said that Bethesda gave the "go" for preload to Steam, and they're just waiting for Steam to unlock it. So it should be any minute now.

You have to. I pirate a lot of stuff myself, but what you guys are doing is pretty lame imo. At least buy the game and then pirate it from "3rd parties" if you're afraid that Steam will set your house on fire or something (if that was your intention anyways, please excuse me, I misunderstood you).
There's a pretty simple formula: If you don't have money, but pirate something... well, you're a pirate. It's questionable if this is morally (whatever that means) acceptable, but it doesn't hurt the developer.
If you have money, but still pirate a product (for whatever reason) that you could actually buy otherwise, you're a thief. You actually hurt the developer (albeit just a little) that way. If you don't like something about the product (and the fact that you have to use steam is part of that product) you don't have to buy it. But don't go pirate it either, that's pretty low imo.
I won't even throw in any arguments for or against Steam, since that discussion is highly stupid imo.
edit: also, I don't look forward to thursday. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to sleep. Then, when the game unlocks at 2am here or whatever, I will absolutely have to sleep or try to sleep since I need to get to 6am already. This is both awesome (that I'm still able to get this excited for a game), but it also sucks incredibly :D

Does someone have any real info on how this game is compared to Morrowind since there is a leaked copy out there? I dont want to buy it blindly after Oblivion, but if its good i want to play it all weekend :D
Also, steam is awesome, no need for CDs, nice special sales, download games at any time, play anywhere. All you need is your accountname and a password.

Surprised there is any anti-steam sentiment. Didn't realise people ever felt like that.
Personally, I hate not having a game on steam. I really resented getting BF3 not on steam, it's first non-steam game I've gotten in a very long time, apart from starcraft 2.

I have heard from another forum that this game is 10/10 material. They seemed to have fixed everything annoying about Oblivion, except for crashes which will hopefully be fixed by patches.

I had a problem with using steam and loading mods at one point, though I was able to use the work around, it was rather annoying. I hope it is easier with Skyrim. I also don't like the fact that I have to load everything through steam. I much prefer the way that Blizzard does their key activation's.

I want to play. But I swore an oath to myself that I would finish The Witcher(first one) before even touching it.
