The fight itself seemed anti-climatic, too. I mean, the dragon did 3 things in a loop, the player mindlessly slashed him whenever he came down (for no reason). Dragon fights seemed way more epic in DA:O, which was a turn-based game at heart. He used ~7 potions and had a companion, plus hes only level 8. Id assume the dragons get harder as you level up Because there is no cooldown on it and he had like 25 of them. Besides, how does that make it look better? It was a cakewalk to kill a dragon. So? set a few restrictions for yourself, such as no companions, no potions and no shouts. Or wait for mods. Let me guess, you're one of the NR20 BGH guys. You can't go into Skyrim expecting the game to be tailor made to your personal wonderful way of playing. The game is made for a general audience, what you can go into Skyrim expecting to be able to mod it, or use console commands, or to play with restrictions you put upon yourself(some people are going to draw their own map -_-), etc. That's why Bethesda puts out the modding tools etc, so you can play the way you want. You want a challenge, well then make it challenging, you want a cakewalk, put it on easy and give yourself a sword that 1 shots everyone. Who cares, since its a single player experience. I think the person who has to cut out features and items from the game to make it challenging might care. If Bethesda wasn't so worthless they'd come up with a solution. You know, like a working difficulty slider. But why do that when you can mod stuff in! In fact, why have dragons either, when you can mod them in! Or even better, I can just close my eyes everytime I fight a rat and pretend it's a dragon. When you play it like that it's made for an even wider audience!
Wow i can tell neither of you have actually played an elder scrolls game, atleast beyond the first 30 minutes. Theyre extremely complex and absorbing but can be played in a simple way by a casual fan. Thats whats great about the game. You can do whatever you want and play it how you want. Its made for casual fans and hardcore fans at the same time. And yes there is a difficulty slider by the way.
Also why the knock on single player games? Not everyone wants to play multiplayer games all the time or wow with nerds messaging you and annoying the crap out of you. Elderscrolls is about the experience and the immersion into the game. Its not about competing or socializing with people its about enjoying a fantastic game. Sorry for those who cant enjoy that.

I made an exception to buy an actual physical copy of the game, so I don't need to be connected on steam for this SOLO-ONLY game. It would be quite a total bullcrap to force a steam installation for a solo game that you buy the physical disks.
Maybe an online activation, but installing steam? Really? I'd be really disappointed.

Where does all this steam..."hate" (for lack of a better word) come from?
The people's lack of actual real information is about as bad as when blizzcon happened.....T.T People still say incorrect shit and think it's perfectly true all the time.
But for reals, why all the hate on steam? I haven't come across a single problem and I've had it for well over a year. How can people say no to Skyrim JUST because it's on steam?

Here's some info on how it's going to work.

Yes, you need Steam, like most people, I don't think it's such a big deal.

Steam is a great game manager, and there aren't really any problems with it in my eyes. I even said "no" to BF3 because it wasn't on Steam.
edit: I just noticed this, I might try to get 200 hours before the 11th... Should I try for it? :D

This is email that I got just now from Slovenia's only distributor of Bethseda games: <rough translation> I'm sorry to inform you that Skyrim shipment is late. There are big distribution problems all over Europe, due to high demand/or lack of copies. So we were dropped out on first batch of copies. Sadly these problems transfer to you directly, as we are getting Skyrim on next wednesday (16.11).
Additional info: Slovenia is very small country, 2mio inhabitants in Central Europe.
Sad email to get, well... I guess I'm getting it on steam now (costs 7-8eur more) (from cca 42eur -> 50eur)
THIS is why I love STEAM!

The first 6-12 months steam was a piece of crap but they improved it so much in the past couple of years that I rather buy games on steam than buying the physical copy.

I don't get how a downloadable version is more expensive than a physical copy. It costs money to make the box/cd/whatever else it comes with. It costs literally nothing for a digital distribution. Seems like the pricing should be reversed for incentive not to waste money and resources for the company.

Not only that but the hardware costs of the servers and an experienced team to run them can cost quite a bit.

For me, I think it is a combination of a few things.
I first tried Steam like 4 or 5 PC's ago, and back then it sucked up resources tremendously. There was no way (iirc) to disable it and it launched everytime you turned your PC on. It has probably improved quite a bit since, but that was the first impression I got from it.
It is being forced on us. This is probably more of a gripe to direct at game develepors, but I would be less critical if it was an option rather than a necessity. Convenience sure, but so is Wal-Mart for that matter... and there are a whole host of reasons not to support them. I happen to love Digital Download, and Matrix Games is a company I like to support (Digital Download with serial number activation). The point of Steam isn't to combat piracy so much as it is a way to maximize profits by cutting out the used game market. This level of greed is a bit of a turnoff for me, and Blizzard/Activision is doing the same thing with bnet. At least you don't need to use third party software I guess. I also don't feel comfortable have everything centralized with one company having control over my entire library of games. Too big to fail? :D
Offline mode is still buggy for Steam. Oblivion gave me many hours of enjoyment when I couldn't pay the internet bill for a few months. I only have two choices for internet and they both suck. I don't agree to the terms and conditions for either company, but have no other choice if I want to stay online. I would like to be able to play Skyrim offline whenever I want, and although I don't know all the circumstances about the complaints concerning offline mode, it sounds like there are issues with it.
So all in all, I suppose it's a mixture of personal preferance and matter of principle.

Is Steam letting people predownload the game before release? If not I might as well pick it up from the store.

I know how it works, I also know that you have to click "Play offline" everytime you log out of steam if you want to be able to play with your single player games. But as I'm someone who travels quite a lot, I've had a LOT of really bad experiences with this system where I wasn't able to play ANY games until I reconnect to the internet.
I know there's a way to play steam games without internet, but I also know there's a way to install and play a f.ing solo game without forcing the use of steam.
Your point?

You probably dont often go to places where you don't have access to internet.
I've been having my share of problems with steam and single player games.
I don't HATE steam, I'm simply disappointed that because of hackers, I'm gonna be FORCED to use steam to play to a single player game.
I love steam in fact, for every multiplayer games I purchased on there, I really liked the platform.
But what I hate is; not being able to play a single player game without being connected to the internet, all that to "prevent" hacking which happens anyway.... -_-
Oh, and another thing, it's 100% sure I don't say "NO" to skyrim, even if they decide there's a single-install DRM.

Whilst I've never tried Steam offline myself I was under the impression that you could set it up so that in future games can be played offline?
A quick Google search yielded this link: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3160-AGCB-2555 Though I haven't tested it.

Does anyone know when the download becomes available? I've heard a bunch of people say that you will be able to predownload it on steam and be able to play right at midnight when the game activates, but as of right now there is still no download option.
