This was pretty well done at first, then just turned into a random collection of clips from the other games that didn't fit a purpose lol. Still impressive.

Dune is considered our generation :O? I mean, yeah if Dune is included then probably not but Dune was almost 50 years ago now. I would consider our gen to be Ender's Game, BSG, The Matrix, Firefly/Serenity, maybe some of the newer trek stuff? (I don't think star wars is really our generation, the books are just licensed fan fictions and lets not discuss ep 1-3). While I wouldn't say its the best of our gen I'd say it's tied for first with Ender's Game. Both are great in very different ways so it would be very difficult to compare them imo

Man, I'm just blown away by how fun the multiplayer demo is. I have many issues with it, but overall, it's just so much fun. And that's saying a lot since I more or less hate Horde mode in Gears of War, which is similar... but this works so much better since:
A. It doesn't take 10 hours to "beat" it because there aren't a needlessly huge amount of waves.
B. Not all waves are pure "wait for enemies while camping", you're forced to actively move around.
C. Classes and what that gives to remove repetitiveness.
D. Classes and how that means you can work as a team instead of camping at different covers.

My issues so far:
1. I still get some lag. It's not unplayable like my first match, but it's a big annoying if you play vanguard and have issues with melee hit detection.
2. Origin is shit as usual and I find it dumb that you can't search for quick matches as a party. We are two people, but making our own lobby is useless, no one joins.
3. For some reason, the game has some issue with my mic, I have to put it an atom away from my mouth and speak really loud for it to register.

Very minor issues indeed. It's in fact so much fun, that I can't help but wonder if PvP wouldn't actually work out OK... has there been definite word from EA that it's only this coop mode which will be available?

In their FAQ and on their forums they've repeated that it's only co-op multiplayer. Real PvP would take too long to balance and they wanted to focus on the single player story and made multi for fun.

Can't you just use third party software for communication like skype or teamspeak?

Sure, but my friend has this even weirder issue where the system Origin uses for voice communication messes up his microphone... as long as he has origin installed, his mic only works in origin. It's really retarded but then again, EA.

I was just talking about my favorites in general, without regard to specific generations. The author of the article does not really define what "our generation" is in terms of time span, and I found it curious (and bold) that he was ranking Mass Effect so highly.

Really? I love the Mass Effect games, but I would have never even gotten the idea that the universe could be that important. I was never that intrigued by it. And it does not have that much content (especially compared to the other franchises named there). Or are there any books or TV series about it I dont know?

Also I dont get the praise for the Shepard character. Imo he hardly is a real character, more like a void hull. Which is normal of course because he is the player character.

Well that sucks lol. Agail, Origin is probably the source for all of the problems you mentioned. I'll have to agree with just about everything you said. I love the diversity among the classes and the versatility amongst the games themselves. My only real issue is that you always have to carry your team xD (Even on Gold you'll be the top-scorer 90% of the games, regardless of class) I do think Asari Adept is a little OP on higher difficulties due to how insane Stasis is now, and also the most heavy hitting weapos, especially Widow, are roflstomping Atlas's a little too much I think . (Seriously, with Widow level 1 + Cloak, you like four-shot an Atlas on Gold, the fuck? o.O)

I just had a weird issue where I played silver as Vanguard with two infiltrators. I'm just lvl 6, but basically, when ever they cloaked, I died since all the enemy fire focused on me. There wasn't much I could do other than spam Charge to try to keep my shield up, but yeah, seems like too many infiltrators on a team sort of breaks it for the others, unless the whole team are infiltrators ^^

Mass effect universe no content?? Have you really played the game? Codex is filled with information about the universe. A lot of stuff is mentioned in dialogue that can be expanded a lot. Every race has entries about culture and society and other treats of their race. Also quite a lot of information on planets, diplomacy and demography.
I found the universe the created very remarkable for a pc-game that isnt a port from some other franchise. That was one of the things that kept me fascinated in ME1. And yes, there are books out for the Mass Effect series.

In fact, a book about Anderson and Saren was released before the first game (and it's even really good).

Obviously I did not say it has no content, there is no reason to make stuff up. For a video game it has a lot. But it is hardly comparable to other major Sci-Fi universes that have up to hundreds of books, decades long TV series etc.
And ME can of course not have a greater importance than those it was compared with in the article when the number of people that have played / read / watched it or just know about it are that much smaller.

Anyone else REALLY mad at bioware for what they did with the DLC?

I'll give a non spoiler version first:

Pretty much they accidentally released the DLC on Xbox Live before the game came out with a character that is vital and fascinating. They will charge $10 for it and obviously it could've just been released with the game. Pretty much any ME fan wants this character.

+ Show Spoiler +
The DLC included a character that is a Prothean and is called "From Ashes." Pretty much, anyone that knows shit about the game wants him/her because this is absolutely HUGE. Obviously the content has taken away from the initial budget and is complete, so there's no reason for it not to be a part of the game.

Thanks bioware, you guys rock...

You should probably read the article before commenting on it. Its importance has nothing to do with how many fans other franchises have compared to it.

I'm really annoyed. Well, I'm far beyond that, but for the sake of decency on these forums, annoyed will do.

I have put a lot of time and money in to the ME series because of how enjoyable the story is and I really want to see the ending, but seriously this sucks so much I may end up just boycotting it for what little that'll mean. Done it with games I've wanted in the past but never something I've wanted this much though.

TotalBiscuit's video on it for anyone who hasn't seen it:
