Would it be easier to just wait for this server to update to 1.2 or should I go ahead and back-patch to whatever the server is currently running? Unless you're one of the few where the client keeps updating no matter what, it's pretty easy to roll back to 1.1_02. On January 25 2011 20:41 crudo wrote: when will it goes 1.2_2 ? When the most important plugins have been ported to Bukkit.

New features: * Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play) * 15 wool dyes * A new water dwelling mob * New tree types * Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper. * A bunch of new crafting recipes * One secret useful block * One secret pretty block * Cake * AND MOAR, probably. I forget! Bugfixes: * Paintings work in multiplayer * Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world * A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer * Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC * Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer * Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps * Falling sand behaves better in SMP * Fixed a few crash on load level bugs The new server will not work with the current version of hMod. This is standard, and has been the case with all content patches. The difference now is that the hMod team decided to stop working on hMod. Most of the guys moved over to a new project, Bukkit. While Bukkit has been in development for a while now, it's not only rather incomplete at its current state, but it also has a different API. This means that no hMod plugin is compatible with Bukkit. Solutions (and other possible solutions): - Bukkit updates and the most important plugins are ported. Highly unlikely to happen any time soon. - Hey0 (the creator of hMod) updates hMod. Considering he doesn't have the support of the Bukkit team, which was quite large, it might take a while. It all depends on how big the changes Notch did are. - We keep the server outdated and somehow manage to get a client that doesn't auto-update, that we can all download. - We run the server in offline mode, a mode where it doesn't authenticate users with mc.net, but in some way manage to keep users from showing up as "Player" on the server (and keep users from picking any nickname). - If the above doesn't work, we could create our own authentication system, then have everyone edit their hosts file to connect to us instead of mc.net. EDIT: Apparently hey0 said he'd update hMod. There's no ETA, and personally, I expect it to take a while. I'm assuming he's working alone on it, but I'll do some more research on that. Also, more bad news. Notch added a new block, lapis lazuli, that can be used as one of the dyes. This block will not be available on the current world unless we expand the map, where it would be available in new chunks, or we find some way to inject the blocks into the world. EDIT: GOOD NEWS: Turns out Notch agreed to let people use the old client, or at least host it. Either way, it's rather easy to keep it from updating. Apparently, the client works differently depending on whether it's Windows 7 or not. I have tested the Windows 7 method, and it's working fine for me. For non-Windows 7 users: If you've updated your client, download the old client and replace the new .jar in %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ (see below for more info if you don't understand this). Then: Start menu -> Run... -> %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ -> Try running minecraft.jar For Windows 7 users: 1) Run Minecraft and let the client update itself. 2) Close Minecraft when it's done updating. 3) Download the old client and replace the new .jar in %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ (see below for more info if you don't understand this) 4) Run Minecraft using the executable. That is, the .exe *The directory %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ can be opened by pasting it into the address bar of your Windows Explorer, accessing it manually if you know how, or pasting it into Start menu -> Run... For those running Ubuntu, the %APPDATA% alternative is actually your home folder. Go to your home folder and just simply go to View -> Show Hidden Files or hit CTRL-H. Find the .minecraft file, go to bin, and replace the minecraft.jar with the old client.

the server hasn't been updated to the new version (because it can't, due to the developers not having an appropriate server release yet.) read the thread.

I don't really care that it's gone, but it's the fact that it was a TL-member that makes me angry. By the way, tell me your minecraft ID and I'll give you a pumpkin if I see you online. ![]()
