I've tried, but it corrupted EVERYTHING. Not just the active world, but my backup world too. I guess when everything turned read-only and data kept trying to be written to the files, it corrupted them or something.
Even my 1.2 world was corrupted and stuff.

That sucks, man...
Leave it to Notch, right?

Well its not your fault, would be nice if you could fix it but otherwise i only lost an ugly lava tower and i gain 10 bucktets jayXD. Or are items still the same and only the world is 3 days back?
Edit: i just realized how horrible my english is

Anyway. EVERYTHING about the server is rolled back. All mob spawners destroyed, all buildings constructed, all items collected or used... everything was rolled back 3 days.

^ As Aeres said.
I have a tad bit of new information (not really new, just something I overlooked before). So, it seems that after getting that HTTP java error listed above, my entire hard drive turned read-only. This would be why the people who were online reported their blocks rolling back every 5-10 minutes (that's how long it takes for chunks to save, as the game rotates which chunks save constantly). During this time I also had a backup save, which started before the read-only issue but didn't finish... so half of it ended up not writing, which corrupted it the same way the normal world got corrupted.
Anyway, something I just realized is that the HTTP error + read-only issue happened literally seconds after Notch patched Minecraft yesterday. This patch supposedly changed something with the authentication system (see where I'm going with this?)
I still have no idea how or why that java error caused my entire hard drive to turn read-only, but it would appear the error stemmed from whatever Notch changed in the patch yesterday (or more specifically, since the server doesn't patch instantly... whatever he changed on his website to work with the new patch).

after about a week of not building...
in the last 2 days, i built probes, mineral line, assimilator, gateway, cybercore, stargate.
I dont know if ill find the motivation to rebuild :-(
at least i got nice screenshots!
So.. you went 1gate stargate and transitioned into losing your whole f*cking base?
If you need help, i can assist with rebuilding when the server goes online and I am available.

I'm sure lots of people will help... you know, assuming MCNet ever gets fixed so people can actually log in. :O

Wow, every single chunk was corrupted O.o That's insane...
I wasn't even aware that Java could make your hard drive read-only...
I think that Notch needs to focus on fixing some of these stability issues...
|
It's pretty annoying that Notch couldn't have seen something like this happening server side.... Especially if he was working with the verification/authentication......
I mean the man has a twitter, a quick "Hey, real quick make a back up of your map or I'll ruin everything" would've saved a lot of trouble...
XD

It can, but it's VERY unlikely I'm told. However, the other option (both hard drives failed at the same time, which also happened to be the exact moment I got the error message and now both drives work fine and passed all drive tests 100%) seems even less likely, so...
I really don't know at this point =/

This couldn't have been the case, if the drive was set to read only then the back up world stored on the disk would have been perfectly preserved. Also minecraft would have almost immediately failed to I/O exceptions, If those errors actually caused this corruption then notch has exposed a huge security issue with the JVM and/or OS for your server, which seems unlikely.
Have you hear about any other hosts having this problem? I haven't seen any other victims so far.
EDIT: By the way, to mitigate future damage, ( as this will happen again many times :D ) Can we set up a more staggered back up process? probably weekly archived world files, and at least two tiered short term back ups (daily & hourly or whatever increment we're working with)
tbh we got off easy with only 3 days of rollback :<

We backup every 3 hours and store up two 2-3 weeks of backups at a time. However, since we had just moved over to the new server and I've also been focused on getting the 1.2 Bukkit server running, we forgot to install an unzip utility for our backup script to use (CentOS had one by default... apparently Ubuntu doesn't).
That being said, I was doing a manual backup anyway every few hours because I was paranoid Bukkit would somehow mess things up. The reason why that manual backup won't load is because it was halfway through writing the backup when the drive went RO, and I guess that corrupted the entire thing (the level.dat file was probably written with chunk data already, and so it tries to call chunks that hadn't been written yet when loading... which prevents the entire thing from running instead of just preventing the missing chunks).
As for others having this problem, 2-3 smaller servers did but it could have just been a large coincidence.

Is it down or is it just my horrible signal in my room lol

MCNet is still up and down. ETA is tomorrow before it's working 100% again.

Okay, thanks for the update! Better start my reading before I go back on and play lol

Thanks to Serejai and everyone else who works so hard on this complicated problem. It's really appreciated.
