Finally took the plunge and got MC. I'm loving the island names (Greater/Lesser Grack, lol).

I'm loving the server so far. Only thing is it is so darn easy to get well and truly lost - awww well. My character name I believe is the same as the username for this forum.

Update is out!
Minecraft Beta 1.2 is live. All servers need to be updated to 1.2.
New features: * Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play) * 15 wool dyes * A new water dwelling mob * New tree types * Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper. * A bunch of new crafting recipes * One secret useful block * One secret pretty block * Cake * AND MOAR, probably. I forget!
Bugfixes: * Paintings work in multiplayer * Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world * A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer * Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC * Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer * Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps * Falling sand behaves better in SMP * Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

Damn you packet 91!! *shakes fist*
edit: server might not have been patched yet.

Same problem. I thought I had screwed something up.
Thank goodness.

This is standard, and has been the case with all content patches. The difference now is that the hMod team decided to stop working on hMod. Most of the guys moved over to a new project, Bukkit. While Bukkit has been in development for a while now, it's not only rather incomplete at its current state, but it also has a different API. This means that no hMod plugin is compatible with Bukkit. Solutions (and other possible solutions):- Bukkit updates and the most important plugins are ported. Highly unlikely to happen any time soon. - Hey0 (the creator of hMod) updates hMod. Considering he doesn't have the support of the Bukkit team, which was quite large, it might take a while. It all depends on how big the changes Notch did are. - We keep the server outdated and somehow manage to get a client that doesn't auto-update, that we can all download. - We run the server in offline mode, a mode where it doesn't authenticate users with mc.net, but in some way manage to keep users from showing up as "Player" on the server (and keep users from picking any nickname). - If the above doesn't work, we could create our own authentication system, then have everyone edit their hosts file to connect to us instead of mc.net. EDIT:Apparently hey0 said he'd update hMod. There's no ETA, and personally, I expect it to take a while. I'm assuming he's working alone on it, but I'll do some more research on that. Also, more bad news. Notch added a new block, lapis lazuli, that can be used as one of the dyes. This block will not be available on the current world unless we expand the map, where it would be available in new chunks, or we find some way to inject the blocks into the world.
EDIT: GOOD NEWS:
Turns out Notch agreed to let people use the old client, or at least host it. Either way, it's rather easy to keep it from updating. Apparently, the client works differently depending on whether it's Windows 7 or not. I have tested the Windows 7 method, and it's working fine for me.
For non-Windows 7 users: If you've updated your client, download the old client and replace the new .jar in %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ (see below for more info if you don't understand this).
Then: Start menu -> Run... -> %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ -> Try running minecraft.jar
For Windows 7 users: 1) Run Minecraft and let the client update itself.
2) Close Minecraft when it's done updating.
3) Download the old client and replace the new .jar in %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ (see below for more info if you don't understand this)
4) Run Minecraft using the executable. That is, the .exe
*The directory %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin\ can be opened by pasting it into the address bar of your Windows Explorer, accessing it manually if you know how, or pasting it into Start menu -> Run...

oh my god..I was just getting started on this epic server and now this happens Sad news Mino.
On a unrelated note,
Is it ok to go into some random dug out mine system that has been used? How strict is the permission on where you can mine/build is what I'm getting at, I don't want to ruin someones minesystem ^^ I mean they havent built anything, I just see it being dug out a bit.

So what's happening to the server? going down for a while? Can u leave it up and the 10 of us can just not logout? lol
|
Does anyone know how to get the old client for Mac users ?
|
Well, shit.
Would it be possible to just expand the world a little bit (as in, add in extra chunks around the border) to get the lapis lazuli?
Also, is it possible to have both the unupdated and updated version of MC? I play on other servers that have already moved on, and want to keep playing on them.

Newly generated chunks should contain the new materials. So travel to distant lands to claim your exotic treasures!

Bummer, i just finished the outside of my giant cactus Now i gotta wait

So who wants to make a piano or a song with me in minecraft eventually?

If those blocks will be redstone sensitive i´m totally gonna make a song and let it play on repeat forever. It´s going to get stuck in your head for ages, muahahaha!
