7 Plains (RIX) 192 3 Boros Guildgate (GRN) 243 7 Mountain (RIX) 195 3 Stone Quarry (M19) 256 2 Shock (M19) 156 4 Skyknight Legionnaire (GRN) 198 2 Guildmages' Forum (GRN) 250 2 Sunhome Stalwart (GRN) 26 2 Heroic Reinforcements (M19) 217 2 Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice (GRN) 153 2 Tajic, Legion's Edge (GRN) 204 3 Swiftblade Vindicator (GRN) 203 2 Make a Stand (M19) 26 2 Truefire Captain (GRN) 209 2 Response // Resurgence (GRN) 229 1 Firesong and Sunspeaker (DAR) 280 2 Deafening Clarion (GRN) 165 4 Lightning Strike (M19) 152 1 Chance for Glory (GRN) 159 2 Path of Mettle (RIX) 165 1 Clifftop Retreat (DAR) 239 1 Sacred Foundry (GRN) 254 1 Ajani, Adversary of Tyrants (M19) 3 2 Justice Strike (GRN) 182
I've seen a Boros Angels deck, but this is really expensive and I'm missing a lot of rares and mythics, so grinding towards that will probably take forever without spending cash, but at this point I can't even complete the good Mono Red Aggro deck (would prefer to play something midrange, though, as I kinda hate rush decks, stems back from Hearthstone), as even this has lots of rares and those seem to be a huge bottleneck in this game. Having never played magic before i was able to go 4-3(not good but semi okay for no understanding) in draft fairly easily if you don't get fucked by really bad drafts. ended 1-3 in the last one cause the game only wanted to give me gravitronic punch over and over.
you probably arent in too bad of shape if you have understanding for basic guilds draft though.

I think you'll acquire more in terms of value for your gold if you draft with it instead of just opening packs. Especially if you draft Boris aggro, you'll end up with a bunch of Boris rares eventually

Ok, thanks guys, so I guess I will try draft out with the next 5k gold (although I find that pretty costly regarding the value you get through wins, or am I wrong about this?)

It's a bit expensive for sure. The big problem with that is if you go 5-3 or 4-3 (can't remember which one is right below breaking even) and goes to Gems. If you have 8k gold and 0 gems, go 5-3/4-3 and get just a little below the buy in with gems it kinda sucks. If it rewarded in gold you would easily have enough for another draft.

Might be wrong about this, but don't you keep all the cards in the sealed too? So it's those cards + your wins.

The thing is, Arena drafts match up people based on MMR rather than score, which means that after the first few drafts you should end up facing people about your skill level and having a 50% win rate (unless you're significantly better than average and the system can't find any players around your level). So drafting isn't great for grinding (though the fact that you'll go 50% in the long run no matter what means that you should feel free to rare-draft cards no matter what).
As a side-note the bots for Guilds of Ravnica have some pretty lopsided evaluation which means that when drafting, Dimir is way better than the other guilds (and Boros which can outrace Dimir is that much better as a result).
|
No the drafts/sealed don't use MMR. They've said so I believe. Drafting has been exclusively how I've been grinding and it's been fantastic for me so far. Would absolutely recommend doing it via limited. (the other stuff about the bots is true though)

Nope, they do use MMR. I agree with what Zig said. I totally recommend rare'/uncommon drafting for the first few picks for the cards that you are lacking and then forcing UB.
For my drafting, I'm Silver 3 and dropping downwards. Used to be some bronze level scrub and there's a difference in the draft decks between each ranks for me
|
Alright I'll try to find the quote later, I believe initially they were using MMR but changed it. I could be wrong but I'm going to check
|
You're right Wave that they did remove it I think in June or July. Wizards said they were testing it and would probably change it back to MMR. If they did change it back there was no mention of it.

Anyone else playing MTG Arena been getting super trolled by the land draw lately? It seems like its been way worse the last week or so.
Game I just finished. (won by a miracle)
Had to mulligan because of 1 land. Had 1 land after mulligan but with a Mana elf so played it because I figure double mulligan when going first is the same as forfeiting.
It took 23 cards for me to draw a 4th land.... Deck runs low mana (only 20/60) but still this is insane..
probably messed up that image here is the link. https://imgur.com/NEjR1XZ

Yeah mana screw happens a lot lately. Not only to me but also my opponents. Maybe I'm a bit cynical here but it wouldn't surprise me if they just messed up their algorithm. I mean, their solutions for features seem to be routed in the 1990's as seen in how they implemented the direct challenge and still haven't delivered a FL. One of my favourite lines from recent patches was also this: "Gameplay logs will now store for 3 days, down from 7 days. This is to reduce the amount of hard drive space used to save these files." LOL So yeah, their developing team seems to be stuck in a time when MtG was first introduced to the market.

I'll provide an anecdote in the other direction. I just went 7-0 in draft without mana problems any game despite only having 16 lands in a control deck. Unless someone mathematically studies it there's not much point in speculating, and the last time an attempt at studying it was posted in this thread the methods were...somewhat lacking.

What kind of control? I could see mono blue being safe like that but mono blue is god tier lameness.

Really lame control. I had a few good creatures (Legion Warboss, Arclight Phoenix which I never saw, Beamsplitter Mage, Crackling Drake which I never saw, Goblin Electromancer, couple others), a couple of counters, a Capture sphere, Mission Briefing, Selective Snare, Unexplained Disappearance, Cosmotronic Wave and one or two other red instants, a couple of Sonic assault, a couple of Invert/Invent, and a Locket.
|
That sounds pretty stable for the most part. Locket seem to draw very often when I run them. You can even see in my screenshot that they accounted for about half my mana.
|
Hm I don't feel like I am getting mana screwed anymore so than usual. Had a bad 5 games today but that is more than normal for bad mana.
|
If you're having problems with the shuffler, I will direct your attention to the 2000 post thread on the mtga forums. Lot of real useful stuff in there and you can commiserate with others.

Personally i don't feel like who is selected to go first is random at all. Nearly every single game playing Esper vs any other non control deck i was 2nd, 100% of the time. Upon switching to R/G aggro i was first vs every control deck and mixed vs other non control decks cant tell if it is actually fair or just awful luck.
obv a turn 2 counter is pretty big in setting pace, becomes a lot less difficult to dictate pace if i can counter the first thing they play on t2/3
|
After my games yesterday I'm convinced the draw engine is trying to do something instead of being random. Four games in a row I used mulligan because of 2 land and had just 1 land in the next hand with a deck running 22 land. I don't know what the odds of that are but it seems that it should be nearly impossible.
I've played real mtg for about 16 years and have never had so many consistent issues.
