I almost flipped out over Horribly Awry, but then I saw the word "creature" and it was all good.

Still a Standard powerhouse, but not broken everywhere else.

The full Battle for Zendikar set has been spoiled now ( http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/card-image-gallery/battle-zendikar-2015-09-18# ).

Personally I think this is going to be an interesting limited format

Khans has all the power cards for the new standard format, except a couple of the walkers from Origins. There's very few cards besides the lands in BFZ, but I'm buying a box just for them.

That's not true at all. Dragonlords, den protector, Hangarback Walker, languish just to name a few. From DTK and Origins.
There are cards from every set right now used in standard and they will continue to be.
You also have no idea what kind of decks will send play and what cards from BFZ will see standard play,so to say it's useful only for the lands is silly especially this early.

You're agreeing with me on the first point.

On the second point, buying a box for the full art lands + shots at an expedition and tangolands is a perfectly valid reason to do so. Compared to Khans block (and Theros for that matter), BFZ (fully spoiled now) is an insanely low power set. There's too much good removal for Eldrazi to be a thing. There will probably be a good 3-4 color Ally deck, but mostly people are going to still be playing Junk, Esper Dragons, and some variant of mono-red as the T1 archetypes.

I'm just excited for Theros being gone so I can try to run my green/black megamorph deck which lost 100% of the time to this annoying lady called Elspeth.

I'm honestly not sure if mono-red will be viable, considering Searing Blood, Lightning Strike and Stoke the Flames all rotated. The closest thing to a replacement is Touch of the Void, which is basicly Pillar of Flame + 1 damage, except it costs 2R.

standard is going to be very very slow. Im hoping the rest of the new zendikar block will have something to offer to compensate for this

Either you're playing 2 drops, or you're fighting the 2 drops. and I have been drafting origins every FNM so thats my general observation on the format

Not sure how you think that's agreeing with you but OK.
Mono red is dead as of BFZ. There is not a single card from the set useful in a mono red deck and too much was lost from M15/theros.

Reave Soul is the best card in the format.

It kills practically everything that matters.

thopters are super fun lol. personally, i feel getting 1/2 or 1/3 evasion pingers are the most annoying to deal with.

edit:

My thoughts when drafting the set:

- 3 toughness creatures are hard to deal with.
- Renown is good. Forces opponents to deal with your creatures and making them trade you.
- Languish and Reave Soul pretty good.
- Don't think you can go wrong with UW Flyers if you are able to.
- Deathtouch is not fun to play against

So I am trying to keep up with all the BFZ stuff and make sure I know what I'm doing for the pre-release and ahead and have some more questions!

(1)Can a single 'sacrifice' trigger multiple effects? (for example can I sacrifice a drone and get the 1 colorless mana while also using the ability another creature has to give a target creature -2/-2 for example).
(2)Does 'take an extra turn after this one' effect (specifically on Part the Waterveil) work like I think in that you get a complete turn with no restrictions? Does it let you draw, untap, and attack again etc. or are there any restrictions compared to a 'normal' turn?

That's all for now but I'm sure I'll have more in the lead-up to the release (this my first pre-release event and I just got into MTG with Origins so all this is new to me).

1) You can only sacrifice a creature for one activated ability at a time. So lets say you have a creature that has "Sacrifice a creature: target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn" and you choose to sacrifice a Scion. You have to choose which ability occurs, either the mana or the -2/-2, not both. However if the wording of the card is "Whenever a creature is sacrificed, target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn", then you can get both effects because you are activating the ability of the Scion and then getting the secondary effect as a side effect.

2) It is a complete turn. You can think of it as skipping your opponent's next turn.

Just as a semi-PSA, I'm not sure if buying a box to try to get an expedition land is worthwhile. I think someone calculated the odds of getting an expedition at around 8% per box, which is pretty low. If you were going to buy a box anyways then go for it, but trying to get an expedition is not the best reason.
