The commentators are really great, and I really like the card display to the right, really helps me out. I might even come back to watch again. Can anyone give a quick rundown of the strategies the players are using?

Top 4 are: Affinity - Dump 90 bajillion artifacts on the table and win with Arcbound Ravager or Atog. Mono-Blue Poison - Blighted Agent + Blazing Shoal and any number of 9-10 CMC red cards (Dragonstorm and Progenitus were 2 I remember from the decklist). Zoo - Play lots of creatures and attack. Main beaters are Wild Nacatl and Knight of the Reliquary plus some burn and Exalted creatures like Noble Hierarch Splinter Twin - Deceiver Exarch or Pestermite + Splinter Twin or Kiki-Jiki to make infinite copies of the creature. (Spintertwin on Exarch, tap exarch to make another exarch whose trigger untaps the first exarch who taps to make another exarch, etc)

![]() It's probably very confusing if you don't know the cards, considering half the decks revolve around certain combos so once someone gets the pieces through successfully the game just ends. All the decklists can be found here so you can get a good idea of the cards: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/ptphi11/top8Decklists The next match will be between Sam Black and Josh Utter-Leyton. Sam's monoblue deck revolves around a combo with Blazing Shoal (cast for free using Progenitus or Dragonstorm) pumping Blighted Agent for 10 poison damage (and therefore the win) as soon as turn 3. Josh's green/white/red deck is aggro, relying on beats from Tarmogoyf, Wild Nacatl and Knight of the Reliquary alongside burn spells such as Lightning Helix and Lightning Bolt. It also runs a blue splash for Bant Charm, as well as Flashfreeze and Unified Will in the sideboard. The following match will be between Chikara Nakajima and Samuele Estratti. Nakajima runs a monored artifact aggro deck. It has a bunch of 0 and 1 casting cost artifacts, which he uses to sacrifice to Arcbound Ravager and Atog for massive damage on turns 2-3. He runs fling to effectively double the damage they can do on their attack, and Cranial Plating as an alternative to the sacrifice + fling combo. Because he's monored he can run Blood Moon in the sideboard to screw up multicolor and 12post decks. Estratti runs a blue/red combo deck that revolves around Splinter Twin or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker creating infinite copies of Pestermite or Deciever Exarch. If the combo's not obvious, when Twin or Kiki-Jiki creates a copy of Pestermite or Deciever Exarch, the copy's enter-the-battlefield ability untaps the original. This process repeats a billion times, and since all the copies have haste they swing for a billion damage. This combo's not as fast as some others but he runs a lot of control cards to ensure that he can make it to turn 4-5.

I bought a few hundred dollars worth of cards a few years ago but ended up just giving them all away when I didn't have anyone to play with down in Houston. Now that I'm living in western North Dakota it's unlikely I'll find anyone to play with... Fargo on the other hand had a real nice community when I used to play/live there ~10 years ago.

I live in Houston, come back : *( I'm actually in the process of getting a deck together. I ended up opening Solemn Simulacrum in a draft and Primeval titan in a pack I won from that draft, so I'm trying to trade up for Phantasmal Images and start an illusion deck.

Pretty sad for him but I'm happy counter cat made the finals, that deck is seriously well built for this format. The sideboard makes it just amazing, I'd give him the edge over splinter twin in the finals.

Modern is a very combo centered format right now, which is fine for the time being. Hopefully we have new cards that aggressive decks can play that come from Innistrad. Hopefully, PTQ season becomes modern, or I'm going to get to play Stoneforge control 1 time before rotation. In the mean time I'll enjoy my break of doing nothing majorly magic related for 2 months.

I'm wondering what's the best way to get back into Magic. I have a good understanding of the rules, but I have no idea how to build a deck or anything. Right now I'm just looking for some fun decks to play around with and get back into the game so I'm thinking of buying a couple theme decks so me and a friend can play some friendly games. Would this be a good idea, or is there a better way to get some decent playable decks? I'm not too interested in playing online (I spend too much time on the computer as it is) so I definitely want real cards, not digital. Thanks guys. Edit: I've been doing a bit more reading and I came across "Duel Decks". Since for now I plan on just playing Magic with a couple people I know and I'm not interested in spending lots of money building a deck and playing at competitions, these seem like a good option for me. What do you guys think of the Duel Decks? They worth getting? Know any good ones?
