Not sure if right thread...
Last time I played Magic was 10 years ago and even then I wasn't really aware of exactly how cards were released etc. I'd still like to own some of it and play it like another board game, that is if me and somebody want to play it, go to the shelf distribute 2 decks and here we go (basicly my days of trading/buying-bossters it are way behind me).
I've heard there are Intro Packs that could do just that. How interesting are they and are they somewhat balanced between each others ?
Also with all those expansions and different core sets I'm really confused, if someone could clarify and from which I should get Intros.
Thanks

Having just looked at a few decklists for the intro packs, they don't look too interesting to me in terms of flavor or keeping with a theme. Not sure about balance.
I would recommend duel decks. $20 for two decks designed to fight each other. Again, not sure how balanced they are, but they tend to be much more interesting.

Duel decks are tricky; sometimes they're competitive like Ajani vs. Nicol Bolas, and sometimes its Unsummon vs Firebreathing.

So I just started playing magic 2 days ago and I found that I liked Avacyn's glory so I wanted to unlock all cards for it. When I unlocked 30 cards I realized I needed to buy the rest to unlock it but even after I bought premium foil deck the 7 cards that were locked before are still locked. Does anyone know why?

edit: I get FRC036 error; Google shows that its usually related to a problem with address, but my understanding was pay pal had you fill out a different form and such. When I played in spring 2012 I also had problems with paypal and MTGO. Basically, everything I bought wasn't being delivered to my account and I had to contact their customer service every time I bought something to actually get the stuff. They told me it had something to do with my name/address containing non English characters (which is bullshit by the way).
turns out my zip code was wrong in my billing address which caused the whole thing to fail > . > oh well, fixed and resolved!

Buying the foil deck doesn't unlock everything unless you also buy the full unlock.

Oh, thanks. And yea I just realized this thread wasn't for that game specifically

This thread might as well be called the "General MTG thread." Pretty much anything pertaining to Magic is okay here.

That was a lot of fun to watch. Thanks for sharing it.

Weird question, perhaps, but how do I analyze whether my deck is lacking, I misplayed, or I simply had shit draws? I played my UWR vs UW control last night, and although I won G1, G2/3 I was completely shut down. I attributed it mainly to poor draws (only a single burn spell drawn both games, neither mutavault in all 3), but it also got me thinking I needed to put pyros or reckoners back in. Same vs jund, it always feels like I either draw 4 counters in the first 5 turns, or I lose, but idk if that's just the matchup or not.
EDIT: list + Show Spoiler + Instant (22)
3x Azorius Charm 3x Dissipate 1x Izzet Charm 2x Searing Spear 3x Sphinx's Revelation 2x Syncopate 3x Think Twice 2x Turn / Burn 3x Warleader's Helix
Sorcery (2)
1x Mizzium Mortars 1x Pillar of Flame
Land (25)
3x Clifftop Retreat 4x Glacial Fortress 4x Hallowed Fountain 2x Mutavault 4x Sacred Foundry 1x Slayers' Stronghold 4x Steam Vents 3x Sulfur Falls
Creature (11)
3x Archangel of Thune 1x Aurelia, the Warleader 4x Restoration Angel 3x Snapcaster Mage
Sideboard (15)
1x Assemble the Legion 2x Celestial Flare 1x Counterflux 2x Detention Sphere 2x Dispel 2x Encroaching Wastes 1x Jace, Memory Adept 1x Negate 1x Psychic Spiral 2x Supreme Verdict

You're deck building might be the issue.
You're greedy with your mana number 1. Mutavaults and a Stronghold in a color intensive deck?
You have all 1 for 1s. Why dont you have any Supreme Verdict main?
The Creature pack seems poor as well. As good as Archangel is she should be used as the top end of a creature heavy list. Aurelia seems off too. Reckoner seems better, or even Auger.
What's with your sideboard?

3 non-colored lands has been rather standard, although those usually run 26 to my 25.
I don't run the verdict main....idk why. I had pyromancers in an earlier build, and didn't like the verdict with them. Kind of a holdover. That said, I never die to aggro unless it's a perfect curve into double thundermaw or ruric thar. I literally don't lose to aggro. My trouble matchups are bant hexproof (wraths would help, which is why they're in the board) Jund, (of course), and U/W control (gotta find mutavaults).
Reckoners have been in and out of the list constantly. Aurelia just came in, and I'm a bit iffy on her. Archangel simply wins games if she doesn't die immediately. (don't start with dies to removal, EVERYTHING dies to removal). I refuse to run augur, I absolutely hate that card.
Not sure what you find wrong with the sideboard, it's been tuned to deal with my local meta. Encroaching wastes to kill nephalia/kessig Assemble for mirror Jace for mirror Celestial flare for bant hexproof 4x counter for mirror Psychic spiral for esper/dimir mill (yes, there's people here playing that) Verdict for some aggro/bant hexproof Dsphere for all sorts of things

Archangel seems really awful in your list. Thundermaw would be a way more realistic finisher. You're being stubborn by not running augurs and running angels which are just way worse than most other control finishers. You even have 4 resto angels and you're really not running augurs? Aurelia also seems just worse than thundermaw also.

Dragon for better synergy with Resto. Makes the mirror easier, I can tell you that much.
I just don't think the deck is just good in the meta right now. You have a hard time against Burning Earth, and no Detention Sphere doesn't solve the problem. Your sideboarding plan against aggro lists seem like ass. Spiral is no thanks against mill, you won't win too many games if you get into that kind of fight when they board in Negates/Dispel against you anyways.
Meh, who knows. I can understand the Augurs, but now that mono-red is a deck again, you do need to have considerations for that deck.

I'd run thundermaw if I had him, but what I'd really like more than anything is geist. You'll never sell me on augur, either, had too many bad experiences with it. Aurelia isn't strictly worse than thundermaw, he's just better right now in the deck. Aurelia makes a bigger impact if you have something else to swing in with, and if lingering souls isn't a thing.

Yeah, I know that the thundermaw is the best finisher in the mirror, I just don't have him. That was the biggest thing that hit me in my match vs azorius control the other night, I just had no way other than my mutavaults to reliably do damage before a wrath. Really want geists for the SB. Mono-red hasn't been an issue, only ran into one of them but it wasn't much like the Big Red list that's been stirring up such a storm. My friend runs a modified Craig Wescoe WW list, and that's not an issue for me either, even when he sides the burning earth in...that's the closest I've had to deal with.
EDIT: why don't you like the spiral? I board in just as many counterspells as they do. Granted, it's a new addition, replaced the Elixir that was there before. Spiral has the advantage of being useful when milled, elixir comes out before counters (sometimes). Should I just avoid both completely and free up the slot?

Well Spiral is a matter of mana availability problems, because realistically, they have 5 more mana than you on the turn you play Spiral. I don't think any experienced Esper/UB player would get caught by Spiral more than once right now. If you haven't scooped when its painfully obvious, I would put you on a Spiral or trying to force through an Aetherling. You are better off playing something more active against UB/Esper than something that responsive.

Yeah, that's probably true. OTOH, it'd be glorious to respond to a late game rev with a spiral and watch them kill themselves, lol.
