That's a wicked combo, micro. X-D

I predict the god cards of Theros to be Eldrazi level. ...*sigh*

I think they'll be 6 drops namely because there's little incentive for Wizard to change the Legend mechanic for a card that only goes in one or 2 decks. Changing the Legend mechanic for lower rarities seem unlikely as that wasn't that big of a deal in CHK block outside of the dragon's cycle. Therefore, I reason those cards will be more playable than Eldrazi in more than single archetype rather than needing the deck to be built around it.

Magical gods and goddess only requiring 6 mana? I understand it from a playability perspective, but I can't wrap my head around that in lore, lol.

Idk you can cast planeswalkers which can traverse planes and cast spells and shit, for 2/3/4 mana.

The gods probably aren't getting cast normally. Some kind of alt cost is probably involved...they even look like those combo creatures (exceed?) from YGO.

Or those Dominarian Dragon "Gods" were just around 8 mana each. And all those Kamigawa "Gods" had single digit casting costs. Like do you think Akroma could beat up Crovax? I dunno man. Or would Cho-Manno beat Thalia?

That's a possibility, but I don't think Wizards want to go that route with how YGO handles their more powerful creatures. I don't think Rest in Peace being in this standard cycle is a coincidence when we already had pretty good graveyard hate, but to print a card like Rest in Peace which doesn't fit anything White was doing in RtR block is pretty weird. Keep in mind the last time they reprinted Leyline of the Void was to crush the degenerative Dredge decks and Rest in Peace is arguably more powerful for decks that just want to take out the GY from the game state.

Anyways I am speculating some kind of hand investment from those cards with dying trigger of some sorts. As for them being too cheap, the CHK dragons were like omgpowerful when they were first printed, then we got the titans which were arguably format defying forces for 2 standard cycles on top of being the de facto benchmark for creature-based end game, it wouldn't surprise me if Wizards is trying to find a way to print something similar with a bit more upfront cost other than mana but similar effects.

This is all just pure speculation, Wizards can take this many different ways. Hell, Grandeur could make an appearance in this block.

Edit:

There's plenty of flavor fails if you want to look it up. Like even as recent as RtR, Rest in Peace makes next to no sense for any of the white guilds.

I did an RTR draft online (first time on mtgo in a while) and drafted what I thought was a pretty solid Boros deck, but did not do well at all. What do you guys think?

+ Show Spoiler +
Boros Guildgate
Plain,Mountain x8

Tajic x2
Azorius Arrester
Minotaur Aggressor
Bascillica guards
Haazda Snare Squad
Maze Rusher
Maze Sentinel
Riot Piker
Seller of Songbirds
skyknight Legionaire
Splatter Thug
Steeple Roc
Tenement Crasher
Viashino Firstblade
Wojek Halberdiers

Blind Obediance
Boros Charm
Skullcrack
Act of Treason
Lyev Decree
Madcap Skills
Weapon Surge

I went 0-2 in the first round, 0-2 in the second round, and had a bye in the third. I think the large creatures, even with haste, don't work as well in a boros deck since they come out too late.

Pretty much what you said, I wouldn't touch Aggressor, Crasher is alright, but that would require 17 lands for me to play. Maze Rusher is just alright, I think the weakest of all Maze creatures. Steeple Roc is mediocre in that deck but again, 17 lands for 6 drops for me.

The Skullcrack, not sure about.

PWs are human-sized. I guess I was just expecting higher CMCs due to images in my head of massive Greek/Roman gods throwing lightning bolts and causing havoc on the planet, plus having a different "god border" on each of them makes me believe they're so "special" that they'll cost a ton to bring out. Like the Egyptian god cards in Yu-Gi-Oh. I'm skeptical that it might turn out like the opposite of Ripscale Predator, which has a massive power/toughness for a creature not much larger than a couple humans. I mean, look at the picture of the one MoonBear posted:

That's a tree in the bottom left for scale. Of course I'm going to expect a very high CMC, lol. But Wizards will likely surprise anyway.

This makes the most sense in my opinion. Other costs such as sacking artifacts, paying life, or tapping creatures would offset a lower CMC.

Don't forget that Thereos has an Enchantment-matters theme, so there may be something there.

Flippin' great to get 2 Tajics, eh? :-D

You're right. I think every card you chose 5 CMC or above should have been replaced with something faster to get out. My constructed Boros deck didn't have anything above 3 mana besides Tajic and, recently, Firemane Avengers. You seemed to want to play a more controlling Boros deck, seeing as you had a fair number of Azorius and Orzhov cards. Taking cheaper, faster Rakdos drops, if possible, would have been a better choice. Blind Obedience was okay because it will remove blockers for you to strike quickly with your 1-, 2-, and 3-drops; it also serves as a late-game way out of losing if you can win by attrition through Extort, haha. Having one or two big, beefy creatures to finish a game is all right (Foundry Champion saved my life at the Gatecrash prerelease), but having more than a few in a Boros deck is detrimental.

Skullcrack is a trap. It appears like it's applicable, but I used to run it and took it out for more creatures. Weapon Surge, on the other hand, is okay because it directly benefits your creatures, which you should be attacking your opponent with tons of. It's a cheaper, one-turn Sunhome Guildmage.

The reason why I had so many bigger creatures was because I was having trouble finding smaller creatures to draft. Unfortunately very few came to me. I would have ideally had more rakdos or small boros creatures.

As for skullcrack, I put it in since it was the only spell I had that could deal damage to the opponent, and my goal was to drain his hp as quick as possible. Basically it was my poor man's warleader's helix lol. After P1 Tajic P2 Tajic I really wanted to go Boros, but as you said I ended up being forced to be a bit more control oriented.

Good point. Maybe a Defense of the Heart kind of summoning mechanic.

Nope, Savage Summoning specifies the next spell cast, so it wouldn't apply retroactively to something you've already cast.

Sometimes bad 1-2 drops are a lot better than good 4-5 drops, especially when you're oversaturated in the high CC stuff. Hardest part of drafting is learning how your pick priorities change.

Seems like a lot of people are interested in playing limited, particularly in drafting. I'm going to be streaming a cube draft on my stream (www.twitch.tv/xjugan); feel free to tune in and ask questions. You can also look at past broadcasts; I offer a lot of analysis with my picks. I've basically gone infinite, which gives me the freedom to stream a lot of drafts.

Information on Cube Drafting can be found here:

Information about me and my stream can be found here:

During my stream I welcome questions and will do my best to provide you with an answer. Feel free to hit me up via PM if you have any questions.
