Take the 2014 version, it's more relevant to play the last.

Dotp is a great and cheap way to play/discover magic. You gains deck and cards by playing the campaign. You can tweak the decks a little but the options are limited since you can just unlock cards and choose if you are going to play them in the deck. Multiplayer is ok, you can play 1v1 with the deck from the campaign or do FFA/2V2.

You have a sealed mode too and it's a great initiation to magic limited tournament.

Overall the game is a must for a begginner or someone who didn't play for a long time and just want to come back casually.

Question for MTG, non related to online play.

Can you play abilities that "return target creature card from your graveyard to play" if it was never in play. Such as I chose to discard that creature, can i use an ability to bring it into play from my graveyard?

Such as this card http://magiccards.info/on/en/140.html

Yes you can. It's what most "reanimator" strategies are based on. Get some big fatties in your graveyard, and then put them right into play without paying their entire manacost.
Go big, or go home!

Merfolk deck complete, not too innovative, but I like it for what Modern is currently dishing out:

+ Show Spoiler +

16x Island
4x Mutavault
4x AEther Vial
4x Cursecatcher
4x Lord of Atlantis
4x Master of the Pearl Trident
4x Merrow Rejeerey
4x Silvergill Adept
4x Phantasmal Image
2x Tidebinder Mage
2x Kira, Graet Glass Spinner
4x Mana Leak
4x Vapor Snag

Sideboard:
2x Relic of Progenitus
2x Shadow of Doubt
4x Spreading Seas
3x Spell Pierce
2x Pithing Needle
2x Hurkyl's Recall

Tested a little bit against Tron and some other fringe decks and it performed quite admirably as long as I kept a hand with a lord in it and some way to get it on the field. More testing required obviously, but having the deck fully unproxied is quite an achievement for me :D

Best play so far: T1 Vault/Vial. T2 Silvergill. T3 Rejeerey, vial in Image copying Rejeery untapping vial, vial in Lord of Atlantis untapping vial and a land, vial in a second LoA untapping mutavault and vial, swing with vault and adept for 12 on T3.

It's possible that Shadow of Doubt should be Echoing Truth, but I think I'm more worried about Scapeshift and manascrewing fetch heavy control decks than having bounce spell 5-6 for twin.

My only comment is that some Merfolk decks have cut Mana Leaks because you tend not to be able to leave two mana open and would rather just play something else and bash their face in, or use Spreading Seas to activate Islandwalk and also punish bad manabases which is almost as good as countering their spells. Other than that it looks like a solid list although I don't play Fish much (for or against).

I hated leaks most of the time in fish for modern when I was testing it. Boarded it out almost always.

The leaks have been hit or miss, but Rejeerey and vial let you leave lands untapped quite often. They're mainly there because Remand is fucking expensive.

The seas were a consideration for main deck, but I liked having a catch all in leak.

The problem is that you need to find ways to win where you can't turn 1 Vial. Vial lines are obviously very strong, but then it becomes a glorified Quicksilver Amulet deck if you rely on it too much.

Consider disrupting shoal instead of mana leak, of course you'd board it out vs most control, but it lets you tap out and still have a counter.
good vibes only

As Judi said, you don't want to go all in on the Vial plan. If your deck revolves around needing to resolve one card, you may as well play some kind of jank combo. You also have the problems where you want to play two drops to keep the pressure and Vial is still on one but then then your Leak is dead in hand and something gets through. Then turn 3 you want to do something proactive like Threads of Disloyalty and Leak is still dead in hand. Turn 4 comes around and you're using Mutavaults and Vapor Snags and Leak is going no where. Then Turn 5 onwards you'd rather just have a real card because Supreme Verdict or something is coming down and they should be nearly dead anyway.

It has its moments but I think the full 4 is probably unnecessary.

New revision of my deck to incorporate some of my favorite M14 cards. Takes it away from being control and more to a midrangey kind of deck. Judging from friday's play, when you have something like pyromancer or moorland haunt or Assemble, Archangel gets confusing very quickly, with various stacks of different tokens with various amounts of counters on them. Ended up with almost 3 rows of dudes friday night due to Archangel putting counters on Assemble soldier stacks and moorland haunt spirits.
+ Show Spoiler +

2x Archangel of Thune
3x Azorius Charm
2x Boros Charm
3x Boros Reckoner
3x Clifftop Retreat
1x Desolate Lighthouse
2x Dissipate
4x Glacial Fortress
4x Hallowed Fountain
1x Mizzium Mortars
1x Moorland Haunt
1x Negate
1x Pillar of Flame
3x Restoration Angel
4x Sacred Foundry
3x Snapcaster Mage
3x Sphinx's Revelation
4x Steam Vents
3x Sulfur Falls
2x Syncopate
2x Turn // Burn
3x Warleader's Helix
3x Young Pyromancer
2x Think Twice

SB:

1x Assemble the Legion
1x Azorius charm
1x Celestial Flare
1x Counterflux
1x Detention Sphere
2x Dispel
1x Increasing Vengeance
1x Mizzium mortars
1x Negate
1x Pillar of flame
1x Pithing Needle
2x Ratchet Bomb
1x Elixir of Immortality

I never thought of UWR Flash as a control deck, but a tempo deck. Always thought players who took aggressive lines with their Red cards came out better than those who were more conservative. Efficent mana use I think matters more in that deck than some of the other decks.

I am testing Bant Walkers right now, and enjoying it thus far.

Never really thought of flash as being tempo oriented, always looked to UWR Geist for that. Although, when you can put boros charm and warleader's helix in the same deck with snapcasters, that sure does give you a lot of reach, doesn't it?

Have you posted your bant walkers list yet? It's something I've never encountered before, but sounds interesting.

Haven't posted, and I am holding off namely because I haven't tested against Jund yet. Secondly, everytime I look at the sideboard, I am like wtf-ing it. I haven't put nearly as much time as I did for UB and Esper.

If you want to test it, its basically, cast either Farseek or Think Twice on turn 2, set up for a turn 3 PWs in either Gideon, Jace, Garruk or leave up Syncopate/Disspate mana, then survive for Aetherling endgame or up tick any of the PWs. No Snaps, no Thrags, no Restos. Aetherling only creature threat.

You jam threats on the play, a little more defensive on the draw. Again, before I would even consider this deck, I need to test it against Jund.

Edit: Also, no Azorious Charm. Selesnya Charms in the board is probably the one highlight of the otherwise what-am-I-doing-with-my-life sideboard.

Uh, you do know that this play does not work right? Reejeery only triggers when you cast a merfolk spell, using the vial does not let you cast it without paying its mana cost, you just put the creature down which does not trigger the reejeery ability

UW(R) flash has always been more aggro-control/tempo than hard control.

My current list is just Matt Costa's list but cutting Augurs for Young Pyromancer. Pyromancer has been sweet but I think there's going to be an upwards trend in Curse/Staticaster/Electrickery and I'm not sure how good it will be when that happens.
