Looks legit, hard to see how it's trolling. Curve seems a little high, but I'm sure it'd need testing.

Nah I try to be at least somewhat original. I want to try some Young Pyromancer + BW tokens mixture.

Your mana seems a bit off. I think you were trolling yourself because you had the lands from BWR and was too lazy to reconfigure them for another deck. :D
Anyways a PTQs in town and friends are at the SCG Invitational. This weekend will be all magic all day. If any of you are going to the PTQ held in Lexington, KY. Enjoy what the locals are predicting to be a miserable experience.

Yea the mana was awfully thrown together. I think I might test the deck though, seems fun if nothing else.

Went undefeated 6-0 tonight at fnm running aristocrats act 2 as I was unable to get around to picking up m14 cards to make anything new. Got 3 reckoner + act combo kills which is like my favorite play in standard atm.
Match 1: mono-red 2-1 Game 1: Aggressive opener with lots of burn got me down to 2 before I got enough mana to reckoner + acts him for game.
Sideboard: Out 4 Falkenraths for 3 searing spears and an Obzedat
Game 2: I stumble on mana and get ran over
Game 3: Open triple Doomed traveler and Blood artist allows me to stall long enough to get out Blood Baron to seal the deal.
Match 2: naya humans 2-0 Game 1: I double slip his 2 Champions and double falkenrath finish it up,
Sideboard: Out 4 Falkenraths for 3searing spears and an Olivia
Game 2: 2slips and a spear stall til Olivia comes and gets beasty, he gets me down to 1 then dies to the counter swing.
Match 3: green/white tokens 2-1
Match 4: jund 2-0
Match 5: uwr flash 2-0
Match 6: mono-black 2-1
4 doomed traveler 4 blood artist 4 cartel aristocrat 4 Boros reckoner 4 falkenrath aristocrat 2 blood baron of vizkopa

Where do you guys think 4-Color Reanimator is going to stand in Standard after M14? It seems like it had it's moments but people seem to favor Junk Reanimator right now. I'm not good enough to know the exact reasons though. It might just be because the Junk version has just that much more staying power.
Anyways, I'm looking for a bit of advice on my 4-Color version now that M14 is out and changing things.
Here's the current main deck I'm rolling with:
2x Sunpetal Grove 2x Dragonskull Summit 1x Isolated Chapel 3x Rootbound Crag 4x Temple Garden 3x Blood Crypt 3x Godless Shrine 1x Overgrown Tomb 4x Stomping Ground
4x Boros Reckoner 2x Olivia Voldaren 4x Thragtusk 4x Angel of Serenity
4x Faithless Looting 3x Mulch 4x Farseek 4x Grisly Salvage 2x Lingering Souls 4x Unburial Rites 2x Blasphemous Act
First of all I think this list might have some serious problems against Jund. The only direct from-hand-to-board removal the deck has is Blasphemous Act and the from-hand-to-renimate-to-board is a bit weak against Ground Seal/Scavenging Ooze. Also, because of the new Legend rule, my Olivia can't be used to remove his Olivia (and the other way around but he has more removal) and that Olivia can just murder me if it's combined with Ground Seal/Ooze or if I just don't hit my things.
That's a bit of a problem as well: Hitting things. The 2-drops in this deck are 4x Farseek, 4x Grisly Salvage, 3x Mulch. Only 7 of those can "hit things" whereas Farseek only accelerates (which is really good but it doesn't dig). If I cast Farseek, chances are I can't dig for a couple turns after that so when I get to the optimal reanimation turns, my graveyard isn't nearly as full as I would like it to be. Is 4x Faithless Looting enough to get away with it? I'm not too sure about that but I would say no.
Taking out Farseek makes Thragtusk a lot less exciting. Same with Olivia but not as much. So if I take out 4 Farseeks and like 2 Thragtusks (maybe even all 4 but I think keeping 2 is fine), what do I add? Removal? Does adding removal do anything? Abrupt Decay does things but is main decking that really worth it?
I could add more reanimation targets. Currently the deck has 4 Angel of Serenities as the main targets with both Thragtusk and Olivia being reasonably good targets. Are those really needed though? It would make the deck even more reliant on the reanimation.
One possibility could be to have the deck be less reliant on the reanimation and have it run like a bit more traditional midrange. Kind of like Jund with a white splash (with more reanimation and angels and less bonfire, wolf run and removal). I don't know what kind of dudes to play in that, though. Be aggressive and run Thundermaw Hellkite? Obzedat? Blood Baron of Vizkopa (I don't really understand why this guy is as played as he is)?
Restoration Angels could work also, assuming I don't remove Thragtusks (in that case I would probably want to leave the Farseeks in also and well... we are back to the beginning).
There might also be a chance to run 4x mana dork (Avacyn's Pilgrim is probably better here than Arbor Elf) but in that case I might want a higher rate on t1 green mana sources. Basic Forest doesn't cast Reckoner (same with Overgrown Tomb but I feel lucky and run 1 anyway, probably a bad decision) so there could be a problem there.
Hmm... Choices. Not really touching the sideboard for the moment as it's highly reliant on the main deck. I'll check on any typoes and things that don't make sense tomorrow (or rather, later today) as I wrote this over the course of the night while watching SCG.

You can't be so all-in on the reanimation with Scavenging Ooze and other GY hate cards out there, you need to play stuff you can cast and cards that help you to cast them. Red doesn't help the deck with that (apart from reckoner, but he's not good enough for the splash). That's why people play junk.

Ya pretty much that. If you reanimation plan doesn't work your still need to be able to slime/tusk resto angel them. Also, I think I would just run 4 sorin instead of 3 sorin 1 liliana in that aristocrats list. New legend rule just makes having double sorin really nice.

Agreed, would move her to the board over a Mark, and run 2 Conscripts there too.

Went to a PTQ this past weekend, went 4-2 overall before I had to drop due to a family obligation.

Round 1, Bant Hexproof: Game 1, I got T2 Pyromancer T3 Reckoner, he had a slow start with 3 checklands and answered with a T3 Geist. I had no answers ready for it, and he suited it up T4 with rancor/spectral flight. Got in a very close race, as I'd shocked my 4th land, and he was hitting for 10 a turn. His second swing would take me to -2, but a warleader's helix to the face gave me an 8 point swing and 1 turn cushion. Swung in with my 2 dudes, he blocked reckoner with an invisible stalker to leave him at 6 total. Pillar of flame, boros charm, onto game 2.
Sideboarded in 2 ratchet bomb 2 celestial flare, mizzium, turn/burn, 1 syncopate out. Game 2 started with double VOR; Pillared one, other turned into a token. Drew into resto, Archangel, Archangel, and got them all on the board. Had to trade one archangel with a double strike flying 5/5 VOR token when ajanni came out, but the other one carried the day. 2-0
Round 2, Jund Midrange: This one was a disaster. Both games, I had decent hands, but no counterspells. Both games, T2 Farseek, T3 Huntmaster, T4 Thrag, T5 Rakdos' return for 4. With the Rakdos' return, there's nothing I can do, and it kinda just ends the game there. Can't win vs godhand, 0-2
Round 3, Monogreen ramp: Obvious netdeck from the previous week's SCG open. Both games he got some early momentum with his cheap creatures, and both games I shut him down and crushed him by turn 10. Azorius charm bouncing a revenge of the hunted arbor elf, Warleader's helix, archangel of thune were the stars here. 2-0
Round 4, 5 Color Wincons: Odd deck for sure, anything that has door to nothingness in it does count as that. Ran all sorts of odd stuff, chromatic lanterns, angel of serenity, tamiyo + omniscience, etc. G1 I had a 2 land hand with 2x azorius charm, pyromancer, mortars, and I figured I'd give it a shot. Didn't get my 3rd land until 11 draws later. Threw down a boros reckoner just to get it eaten by AOS, and scooped. G2 had a decent hand, drew into an archangel, pyromancer, and a couple counterspells, and it was all downhill from there. Took a few turns to finish him off but once archangel and pyro landed it was just a matter of time. G3 he had some early counters to stop my creatures, but ended up with a pyromancer, archangel, resto on the field against his thrag + kessig. Felt a little behind, so with a snapcaster and boros charm in my hand, decided to boros charm him to the face before I passed the turn, wanting to flashback the charm for doublestrike to kill the thrag on the swing. It worked, but when he tapped out post-combat for a terminus, I felt really dumb with a syncopate in my hand, which could have prevented the 4 creature wipe if i'd NOT burned 4 mana for 4 damage to the face that was un-needed. Lost to kessig damage in the next few turns. A frustrating 1-2 due to my own misplay.
Round 5, Bant Wolf Run: Hard to remember the whole flow of the games on this one, but it was an exciting match of lifegain, creatures, and counterspells. Ended Game 1 at 39 health just from Rev and helix. G2 I lost to a kessiged thrag beast after he wrathed the board, and G3 ended up with 2 archangels facing each other, but my having azorius charm was able to reset his counters and cleared my path to victory. Very fun matchup, 2-1
Round 6, Jund Midrange. I was rather unhappy to go back into this matchup, considering what I'd dealt with earlier in the day. the deck's pilot was also very unhappy, likely because his $700 netdeck wasn't winning the event. Game 1 ended with me landing an Archangel (yet again) and helixing any resistance. Stack up the counters, I'm coming through, punched in with her and a few tokens for the win. G2, he got off to a slow start, and I ran with it. The only creature I landed all game was a pair of snapcasters. Boros charm to him, snap boros charm, 2x helix, snap helix, swing in. Even with a thrag landing, there was nothing he could do, and the second game ended in 4 minutes flat.
Overall, I'm super happy with archangel more than anything else, and I'm even considering putting her up to a 3-of in the deck. Pyromancer also definitely pulls his weight, even if all the elementals do is chump block.

Say I want a deck that just has the best possible match up against jund in standard, what would you go with?

On July 31 2013 06:22 NotSorry wrote: Say I want a deck that just has the best possible match up against jund in standard, what would you go with?
Jund. I'm sure you could craft a deck modeled after esper control or UWR, or even aristocrats shell that could be anti-jund focused, but they'd have gaping holes in other areas. My UWR has a decent matchup vs jund in most cases, but I get wrecked by an early Rakdos' return. There's a reason it's the #1 deck atm, because it covers just about everything.
|
Esper has a very hard time against Jund while keeping its other match ups even. That being said, Dimir Charm #1 anti-Jund tech in Esper. Namely its hard being both good against both the Jund and the Voice decks.
I want to say Bant can do it if you just focus on the Aetherling plan but Olivia is still a nightmare in the match up. Like my board plan in Bant against Jund is basically go up to 4 Aetherlings, board out all the PWs and get myself in a race situation.
If you want to hate it out, you can but you'll leave yourself open.
|
Seems like every week my local meta picks up more and more jund, been doing alright with Act 2 and BWR Midrange, but I still feel like I'm always behind vs Jund.
|
Just wondering if anyone's been playing around with archangel of thune, and what you think of her? I put her in my UWR deck immediately, and my god she's been a performer. If she can stick for even a turn, there's a huge impact made, and if I get to untap, she simply doesn't die. And when she doesn't die, well. It's Oprah winfrey style counters.

Getting into a game of 5 drops is a losing proposition especially since the problem cones down on 4.
If you mean in general, underwhelming everytime I played against it. The card costs one too much.

Played against it as esper or as bant? It's generally underwhelming vs esper, as most non-haste 5 drops are. It's the matchups vs jund, bant control, bant auras, any aggro, etc where it really shines.
