Been thinking of playing some Modern to revive an old deck from way back when. Was an elemental that used Flamekin Harbinger + Incadesent Soulstoke to throw massive elementals at people every turn for next to no mana. Also just has lots of quick creatures that did damage then killed/exiled themselves. Was curious what people think of the concept. I included the old decklist, although this was a standard deck at the so I am sure there is a lot of good stuff I could add in by expanding it to modern.
AGAIN, this has not been modified at all since Conflux, so I would have to spend some time working on updating and revising it. But even in Conflux as a standard deck it usually killed on T4 so I am sure it can be sped up more. Just curious if the concept will work in modern, as I have never played a single modern game.

Your deck is a three card kill 'combo' that doesn't instakill your opponent. Otherwise it's is just a regular aggro deck from what I can see. You also don't have much reach to finish people off. What I'm basically saying is that it plays like a slower and worse Infect deck because there are so many ways to interact with it. Assume every deck has a 4x Lighting Bolt/Path to Exile/Smother/Go for the Throat/Abrupt Decay. You basically have no response against it and now instead of a 10 power trampler you have a pile of small creatures that lose to Tarmogoyf/Wurmcoil Engine.

If you want to keep the aggro Elemental/Shaman theme, you can add Burning-Tree Emissary, Bosk Banneret, Elvish Visionary and Wolf-Skull Shaman for cheap board presence and all of them also do something more than just be a body. Rage Forger gives you reach. Lead the Stampede refills your hand. And of course things like Lightning Bolt cause if you're running Red and you don't have 4 of these then either you're playing Tron or you're making a mistake.

All being said however, aggro Elemental/Shaman is basically a strictly worse version of Gruul GR Aggro Zoo from what I see. You're too slow to out-race a combo deck, and I can't see how you beat a Wurmcoil Engine or Wrath of God.

If you want to go combo creature kill then just net deck an Infect list. There's loads flavours to choose from.

Thing is actually the soulstoke is not necessary just makes the chaser have haste. With some mana boost you can have a 10/2 trample on Turn 3 that replaces itself if killed (if you champion the harbinger). But thank you for the advice, good to hear as I don't know much about modern. Might tinker with it a bit and see if I can come up with something with all this info in mind, I'm quite the Johnny player, I HATE netdecks lol!
Also maybe could the creatures weakness be addressed by adding some "slide" cards for my creatures like Turn to Mist? Most of my deck had no problems shifting itself in and out, and it was the very original concept.

Edit: Maybe some more clarification is needed. The goal is elementals and agrro for quick kills. I'll repost the list with what cards I think probably would be cut if I did this, just due to the change in format and time since the original deck. Some stuff like Ashling was just there as there was no better options in standard at the time. Also R/G is the current colors but a color change/splash could be added, the green was just there for the T1 mana boost and huge elementals.

I only have 1 EDH Deck: Olivia Vampires, it's a whole lot of fun. Still need a few more of the rarer vampires/lands/etc.

How much are booster packs generally when they are released. Places over here are selling Modern Masters for upwards of 11 to 16 dollars a pack.
 WTF.

edit: Got 3rd in my first draft in 5 years despite never actually drafting RMG somehow. This limited format felt pretty hard/confusing.

I play in a slightly more cutthroat EDH group which is quite fortunate for me really as I quite like our rules. People are okay with insta-wins or infinite combos and power cards. The thing which we have outlawed is anything which takes a long time to actually kill anybody. There is nothing worse than watching a person tutor and shuffle multiple times in a turn and generally durdle around for 30 minutes before passing the turn without having won the game. Run good combos just don't waste people's time
I feel that letting people run broken combos leads to a better meta, it forces your play group to run answers so that decks actually interact with each other instead of just banning cards because your deck is too weak.

I looked a bit more at some of the modern cards available for my deck. Seems like there is some cool options that did not exist before that allow T3-4 kills. Haven't had a chance to look through everything yet, only had an hour or so but a couple things that stuck out:
Nova Chaser + Assault Strobe or Nova Chaser + Fling allow up to a one turn 20 damage swing.

With a Soulstoke and Birds of Paradise (or any one drop "tap for 1 mana") you can Turn 3 kill, example:

 T1: Land, BoP
 T2: Land, Soulstoke
T3: Land, Chaser (via Soulstoke), and either Strobe or Fling

 Edit: Here's another T3 kill

T1: Land, Exile Simian Spirit Guide, Smokebraider
 T2: Land, Nova Chaser
 T3: Assault Strobe and/or Fling

With that in mind is it still a lost cause? Lots of good cheap elementals that hit for a lot real fast combined with some DD seems like it could be a fun a not bad deck. Or am I still 100% offbase?

Edit: Ok I whipped up a very basic idea of what it could be. Just an idea, can pretty reliably kill on T4 although there is some stuff I did not notice I am sure, etc. Keep in mind will be built with a sideboard in mind once maindeck is complete/

 Idea Deck

Everything is just 4x. Like I said, very quick and early list. Some things obviously would be 1x, 2x, 3x in a more final deck, just not this second until I see the things I am missing.

 Land - 20
Exact distribution later, not important exact ones now. Just 20 lands that only produce mana (some shocklands prolly and painlands)

 Creatures - 24
 4x Birds of Paradise
 4x Flamekin Harbinger
 4x Incandescent Soulstoke
 4x Groundbreaker
 4x Timbermare
 4x Nova Chaser

 Instants/Sorceries - 16
 4x Noxious Revival
 4x Assault Strobe
 4x Manamorphose
 4x Fling

After going 2-2 at tonight's FNM, I think I need a bit of help. I'm playing Junk Reanimator (yeah yeah, I know) and the "tier 1" decks there are Jund Aggro, UWR Control, Bant Flash w/ Geist main, and Naya Midrange. My two losses were to UWR Control and Bant Flash (and quickly stomping a UB Mill deck and another UWR Control deck that drew bad both games), and I'm looking for any help to find cards for those matchups.
 http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/junk-reanimator-27-09-12-1/

And for those who don't (or can't) look at the link, the deck's under the spoiler tag:

 + Show Spoiler +
 3x Acidic Slime
 3x Angel of Serenity
 2x Arbor Elf
 4x Avacyn's Pilgrim
 3x Centaur Healer
 1x Craterhoof Behemoth
 4x Restoration Angel
 4x Grisly Salvage
 4x Thragtusk
 4x Unburial Rites
 3x Mulch
 1x Obzedat, Ghost Council
 2x Vault of the Archangel
 3x Woodland Cemetery
 4x Overgrown Tomb
 3x Sunpetal Grove
 4x Temple Garden
 2x Forest
 1x Gavony Township
 2x Godless Shrine
 3x Isolated Chapel

 Sideboard:

 2x Abrupt Decay
 1x Avacyn, Angel of Hope
 2x Deathrite Shaman
 1x Oblivion Ring
 2x Pithing Needle
 1x Putrefy
 1x Ready // Willing
 2x Selesnya Charm
 1x Sigarda, Host of Herons
 2x Sin Collector

Note: I'm getting a Cavern of Souls this week for next week's FNM, because I've had my Angels, Tusks and Slimes dissipated so many times that it's probably lost me a game. The plan is to go -1 Vault, +1 Cavern.

My current thought process is to move a Centaur Healer to the SB for 1 Sin Collector, and turn the Ready & Willing into Ray of Revelation.

Guys at my LGS have done the same, most of them cracked at least one money mythic. Out of the 3 or 4 boxes that were cracked so far, they saw a Goyf, both Swords, an Elspeth (with her Emblem no less), a Shackles, and a bunch of money rares and uncommons. Plus, I think they bought in at MM when it was at $200 or so. Looking to draft MM Saturday with a buy-in of $25, cause I figure, "why not, I'll throw $25 at the Mythic lottery."

Not a huge fan of Craterhoof without Lingering Souls, and I certainly don't like Vault without Souls. Don't see a point to Avacyn or Ready//Willing, not a fan of Putrefy.
Cavern, Sin Collector, Acidic Slime, and Obzedat are probably your best cards against UWx. I'd look to adding more of those to the 75 if you expect more UW/x than aggro and expect to never ever play against either version of Aristocrats or Hexproof.

Craterhoof's still surprisingly relevant in the deck, and has won me some games where if I had any other spell, I'd have either lost or drawn due to time in the round. Gavony and Vault are holdovers from when it did run Souls, but Vault is still relevant in the creature-heavy matchups or in the mirror.

Avacyn's there mainly as another big dumb reanimation target, plus the fact that Supreme Verdict and every burn spell out of UWx is now useless vs my dudes. Ready//Willing has been underwhelming and not the blowout card like I thought it'd be, so I can see myself dumping that card for something else. Putrefy is to vary my "kill spell" threat density, as there's some creatures I can't just AoS away (Obzedat, Olivia with only 1 counter, Aetherling).

So I'll probably cut the Ready//Willing for something else. As for playing vs. Hexproof or Aristocrats, those decks aren't in my LGS meta, but I would like to prepare for those matchups if I can, as I'd like to take the deck to a SCG event before current Standard rotates out. My gut tells me I want to have a miser's Ray of Revelation in the SB and just concede that Aristocrats is a thing and it's gonna be a weird matchup, so I need to just deal with that.

I drafted like 4 pods of Modern Masters. It was okay, the rebels that put rebels into play are pretty sweet. The spore deck gets out of hand very quick. Red seems the most heavily drafted.

My magic accomplishment of the weekend occurred at Friday Night Magic. Although I went 2-2-1, in one of the matches I lost (1-2) I had an interesting game. I only got three lands total into play. I milled my opponent and won the game. Yes it actually happened.

I think I would have placed in the top three if I hadn't gotten mana screwed. One game I'd have only land, and another I'd have no land... it kinda sucked!

I also play some casual 3 way FFA today using my ~100 card gruul deck. What would usually happen is I would have to kill one of the other two (for example, a primordial hydra that was a 10/10 was about to become a 40/40), and then the third one would immediately kill me. I also died on game on turn 6 or 7 to a swing for 30 or 40 unblockable points (human deck) of damage -_-. I even had some really good cards out already at that point.

Boosters are usually $4 MSRP. Modern Masters has a $7 MSRP, but it's limited and in such high demand that you're unlikely to find packs for much less than $10 (your only hope is friendly local game store owners). Even still, $14+ is nuts.

Can any of you offer tips for sealed deck events? I've been doing 3 booster drafts, and although I still find the drafts very challenging to do well in, I'm getting the hang of it. I haven't done sealed deck, however.

There is a 4 booster draft with a minimum deck size of 30. How do you approach this? Does milling (if you get the cards) suddenly become extremely appealing?

What about a 6 booster draft with a minimum deck of 40? Are these sealed deck events going to play pretty much the same as booster drafts except with lower quality decks?

So, did 2 modern masters drafts yesterday, first one I went 0-2 and dropped due to a half-assed arcane deck that didnt work because I totally fucked up the draft. 2nd draft I FP Glimmervoid and went with the entirely open artifacts route, only lost to a guy who got 2 path to exile, 2 bound in silence, and 2 of the thing that makes me sac a dude, and lost barely. Glen Elandra archmage was a star too.

As for your deck, I feel like Nova Chaser doesn't do much with your curve. BoP are nice, but you can't champion them, and all cheap targets can be killed off in response to you casting your Chaser. You're also very open to counterspells - if you don't get a Soulstoke onto the field, they can stabilize easily. Your direct damage also hinges on you having your heavy hitters on the board and does nothing otherwise.

I have not had a lot of problems yet with the creature hate, although I was thinking of sideboarding some Soul Foundry's against heavy creature hate decks or something that gives my creatures hexproof. The Chaser has been one of the more reliable parts of this deck even when I played it in Standard, it can be hard cast easily and can create an infinite loop of death with Soulstoke/Harbinger. Also was going to sideboard in that 1G enchantment that makes 4/4 elementals when players cast blue spells on your turn vs counter decks.

Edit: There, edited up the mana base a bit!

Edit 2: Someone on MTGSalvation suggested going mono red with more burn, thoughts? I really liked the BoP and the Timbermare.
