somehwat off topic but the concept of card advantage didn't register to me when i played YGO as a kid. "sac two guys to dark magician YAAAAAY" and it gets blown up by raegeki -_-

nowadays its like lol "Bloodbraid cascade into blightning" lol

just a lil random thing i felt like putting out there

the starcitygames forum is pretty much dead. no one really posts at all so the vampires thread from last year.

that being said i actually think the newer vampires list is more consistent than WW quest(not very hard to do). i sleeved it up and did some playtesting and there are alot of cool hidden synergies. and the deck is surprisingly hard to play for an aggro deck. definitely not just puke out guys and turn them sideways.

yeah I started playing competitively last year right after zendikar came out, I had a friend who is quite skilled at magic and we used to talk about or respective "odd sports" so I decided to start playing and I payed Boros. Then for wwk I played random T2 decks but with ROe I played jund. Thats when I truly realized what card advantage was shits so Op. As for the whole vamps thing the decks fine, but its a Tier 2 deck for sure, you pretty much just scoop to pyroclasam.

its not tier one, but if your meta isnt good with dealing with swarm aggro decks, it has good chances. lots of reach with kalastria highborn. although i would really like bloodthrone vamp to have flying >_<

That doesn't have duress/inquistion, etc. The other build I was referring to was linking up a bunch of 1 or 2 disruption plays for turn 3 aggro and then a mind sludge. I have noticed that deck encourages poor sideboarding from the opponent sometimes, like they're expecting mind sludge and side (incorrectly) accordingly for it.

quick and easy mtg question

let's say a card says "when a goblin comes into play, you gain a thousand life"

and as it were, the card that says that is a goblin creature

so, when you play this creature, would you gain 1000 life? or does it only count for future goblin creatures played?

Incorrect.

Think about what you're saying, if it worked that way everything that says "when this comes into play, bounce target x" or whatever wouldn't work. You gain 1000 life, it works.

however a modern card would never be templated that way as they recognize the potential confusion arising from it. Try checking oracle wording for the one you're curious about.

It would need to say, When "another" goblin comes into play, gain 1000 life, for itself to not count as a trigger.

I don't know the exact reasons why as far as rulings are concerned, not sure, but most of the interactions that you can do support this, same reason why valakut doesn't work when you just play a 5th mountain, but if you bring a 5th and 6th mountain into play at the same time you get 2 triggers.

It's because somebody would have to be about to get priority (that is, the chance to play something) before the game checks to see if any triggered abilities have come up. So

- Goblin resolves
- Goblin enters the battlefield
- Now play could resume, so the game does a quick check to make sure everything that should be happening is. It sees that you have an ability that gains you 1000 life whenever a goblin enters play, and that a goblin entered play since the last time it checked, so it creates a triggered ability to gain 1000 life and you put it on the stack.

This. All modern cards and the retroactive oracle text for past cards use one of the following wordings to avoid confusion:

"Whenever another <type> enters the battlefield..."

or

"Whenever <this> or another <type> enters the battlefield..."

The best way to confirm which one the card in question is meant to be is to check the current oracle text.

That trigger is entirely different. It triggers on a Spirit or Arcane spell being *played*, not on coming into play (part of the reason that WotC now words "comes into play" as "enters the battlefield" is so that "x is played" triggers and "x comes into play" triggers don't get confused, as they are here). In that case, it does not trigger it's own ability.

I'd say no, since you got to have the creature on the battlefield to have the effect, but then you have already played the spell. But again I'm pretty new to magic so I might be wrong.

Oh and about forums btw, imo mtg Salvation is the best magic forum I've found so far, really active forum.

As a community, MTGSalvation is perfectly fine. It's just that it's not really the best place to go for info with regard to deckbuilding/competitive help because of how widely the player skill can vary.
