The energy used by Planeswalkers are loyalty counters, which are just like any other counters so you can put another one there, if you want to.

Magic is big on wordings. If something is called "<X> counter" it will work with proliferate, remember that you can only choose one of the counters on the permanent though, if it has several different ones.

So say with little Jace you could get to the Ult in less time with Tide out, basically casting his +2 you get +3 in reality.

Inexorable Tide only triggers when you cast a spell. Jace's abilities aren't spells, they're just abilities.

You can only cast spells from your hand, unless a card states otherwise. Everything you cast from your hand are counted as spells, except for lands.

really with little jace you should just be drawing cards. his ult is very lackluster compared to just drawing free cards a whole bunch of times.

Gah, Magic Terminology. I hear people refer to creature abilities as abilities and sometimes creature spells. Thats why I was wondering.

A Prodigal Pyromancer in your hand is a creature spell. When you play it you summon a creature to the battlefield. It is now on the battlefield and can use the tap for one damage ability.

Just think of everything in your hand as spells, and everything on the battlefield as permanents with or without abilities. There are exceptions, but generally that's how it is.

EDIT: Actually no, there aren't any exceptions except for lands which aren't spells in your hand.

i was skeptical at first to play MTG on the computer, but I downloaded MTG online a few days ago and am hooked now lol... I'm afraid this is going to turn into a big money sink for me which is bad news for my wallet haha.. I've already spent $200+ .. so far I just bought the Deadspread premade deck from Scars of Mirrodin and customized it to my liking. Haven't done anything besides standard casual games, but planning on trying out some booster drafts / standard tournaments real soon once I'm more comfortable. I love the fact that you can trade in your electronic cards for real ones because eventually I may want to switch over to regular magic (I played regular magic for many years). So I don't feel as bad about spending money on it since I won't be stuck with just electronic versions of all the cards if I choose to trade in. Playing MTG for a living on the pro tour is just as appealing to me as being a SCII progamer... I'm curious how much harder/easier it is to become a pro MTG player.. I forgot how much fun magic can be..

Be happy Magic has terminology, it makes things A LOT easier.

This isn't quite correct. A card in hand is only a card (of it's specific type). The term "spell" ONLY refers to a card when it's on the stack (and even then, copies of spells, created by some copying effect, are also spells).

I know it's a really obvious one and most people know this, but if you want something casual that works with your planeswalker activations pick up doubling season, it's pretty crazy what happens :D

Doubling Season can go in 90% of casual decks really. There's a reason it's one of the most expensive cards that doesn't see tournament play. Casual demand for it is huge. :p

Thanks for the help with terminology.

Doubling Season is cool but I was looking for a way in standard to increase Little Jace's mana quickly, but as others said he should just be used for the Legend clause and for drawing cards. Inexorable Tide is to expensive as well so it's not really worth it.

Any good traders that you guys know of to buy tickets from cheap? I would buy my first batch from the WoTC store and get some of their rewards points for the free cards, but they charge tax in IL and they're $1.09 apiece... eBay only has a very limited amount of ticket sales going on anymore and it looks kinda shady.

My favorite card:
I'm actually very new to Magic, picked it up after playing a homebrew version of it on my PSP. I'm thinking of buying MtGO. It has quite a unique style of play( esp. since I come from a YGO background), planes took a while to get a hang of. Just wondering what types do others play? I know most decks are dual mixed, but what is your favorite type? I really like playing white, hell my n00b deck is pure white.

I like many decks, but I keep coming back to Mono White Stax. It runs cards such as Ghostly Prison (which is my favorite card in the deck, I always feel great when a prison is out), to slow down the enemy, Crucible of Worlds combined with Wasteland, Armageddon and Smokestack to create a board lock and then some creature to slowly beat down the opponent, usually Mishra's Factory.

Most of my favorite cards are white, even though my favorite KIND of cards aren't typically white. Overall black is my favorite color. If I want to try to win I play the Stax deck, if I want to have the most fun I play a homebrew variant of a Train Wreck deck. It uses discard spells and board control and finally Helldozer to establish a board lock. My variant doesn't run the helldozer but the idea is still the same.

EDIT: "If I want to try to win I play the Stax deck", Stax isn't up there with the top Legacy decks, but it's the one I know how to play best

If my life depended on it, I'd learn to play one of the decks to beat.

im always surprised by how many new players like life gain. when i was new, i was obsessed with removal. black red in odyssey block with a bunch of those nightmares that got rid of their guys or duressed them. and after burning the shit out of everything they played, slap down a sengir vamp and turn it sideways.

I'm currently unable to decide what deck to build... A mimic vat deck that would probably involve me trading in my elspeth to get a playset of vats or just a Quest for the Holy Relic which I have basically all the SoM parts for... with a bit of a bonus in I got Sword of Body and mind. They both involve quite a bit of zendikar which rotates out faily(?) soon? But I kinda think vat is more interesting/fun.

UW control rising again, so glad I opened Venser in the last draft I went to. Now I don't have to spend more money on him!

Just curious but what would happen if you'd blink precursor golem with venser/glimmerpoint stag? the 2 tokens shouldn't die cause its not an instant or a sorcery right? Also couldn't you just make an army of 3/3's or would they all still be tyed to the 1 card and all die to like a turn to slag...
