I'm aware that Shadowrun didn't invent bloom. The lead sandbox designer aka The Guy Who Fucking Made the Foundation of Reach Gameplay, was the lead designer of Shadowrun. So there is a 100% chance that he migrated bloom from shadowrun to halo. It's even more likely because of how well received Shadowrun was by the competitive community and Bungie likes to try to keep halo competitive.

Isn't the bloom supposed to emulate real life recoil? If it is, that's stupid. I don't think that a rifle that fires rounds that aren't even armor-piercing would recoil at all if used by a Spartan that can lift war tanks like they weigh two pounds. >.>

And as for armor lock, how about just ignore the guy who uses it? If you just stare at the guy in armor lock you're just asking to get assassinated.

Almost certainly no. Recoil was in the beta and they took it out. Bloom was meant to be a skill-based mechanic that rewarded patient fire vs trigger spam, and also possibly a way of differentiating the role of the DMR from that of the pistol (along with other traits such as clip size and max ROF). Didn't work out quite like that, though, as spamming at midrange is way too effective vs timed shots, which is why most in the MLG HR thread have been pleading for an increase in the bloom size and decrease in the reset time. There've been hints here and there (no solid sources, though) that Bungie might patch in some bloom adjustments as part of their usual title update process, whenever that happens.

Exactly. I think some other folks from FASA also migrated to Bungie as well, btw.

I can definitely see them trying to change this game to make it more pro-friendly... However, I also can't see it at all - the market for casual gaming is too huge.

Interestingly enough, many casuals (if bungie.net forums are any indication) also want the bloom improved, or removed completely. It'll be interesting to see if Bungie makes some major changes, though with them, it almost always seems like it's fixing one thing and breaking something else.

Most of the people on Bungie.net forums are pretty dumb. I don't think Bungie is going to pay much attention to them. I mean, these are the same people who thought Reach was going to be about how the Master Chief went back in time at the end of Halo 3 so he could fight at Reach.

Not really, Bf and cod both jump around through time periods, but it's always the same ole' game.

I think he meant that the two franchises are the same thing each time. BF is always BF, and COD is always COD. That's how I took it.

They do, though, via a number of feedback threads for betas, playlists, bugs, etc.

At least Shishka (former Bungie playlist manager) collected Reach beta feedback from the MLG HR thread separate from the gazillion retardothon threads on bnet. I have to give credit there. And Urk still posts in the MLG forums here and there.

I loved Ivory Tower, Lockout, Burial Grounds, Ascension, Midship. All great maps in halo 2 especially at high levels (40s). So many cool tricks to do and sick ways to get around each map. Superbouncing on ascension was gay as fuck though.

And I must say, armor lock is the most frustrating god damn thing ever. When you charge someone with a sword and they armor lock, you hit them, fly back, they get out and hit you, you charge again, they lock again and beat you down and take the sword.

The fuck. Shit should be one cast lasting a certain duration.

I know that. You do know you can armor lock for multiple short periods of time rather than just locking for one right? I charged the guy and he locked. He unlocked and I charged him again and he locked. This was with beatdowns inbetween. It's not like I just stood there, it was a chained sequence of events.

Dumb loadout is dumb. Was a gosu move though.

I dont see how that video shows that armor lock is gamebreakingly imbalanced. Everyone who used it died shortly after. Furthermore, assuming they used AL the whole game, it didnt help them any other time since they lost.

I dont like AL either, but not because its OP. I dislike it because it slows the game down.

I have a problem with it able to be used multiple times in quick succession, not the ability itself. Invulns + FPS = touchy.
