1- i would not try tbh.
The tweak pack for Trilogy isn't that useful anyway ( take a look at the notes ).

2- No, you have to instal BG2 fixpack first. There are a lot of weird bugs in vanilla BG2 and the latest patch + Fixpack are very important imo.
Trilogy doesn't fix stuff like that.

Edit: I think you should instal Unfinished Business for BG1 and BG2 too. It brings a bit more "canon" content.

I'm planning on playing through BGT as a Paladin Inquisitor and have some additional questions:

1. Is this 95-point roll (picture) very good or shall i push for a 96-point roll with 18/9x or 18/00 STR and 18 CHA? I read that 11 INT is good for specific BG2 enemies and that WIS is unimportant so left it at minimum:

2. As a Paladin Inquisitor, is it more suitable to go for Two Handed Weapons (swords) specialization or Two Weapon Style (Dual-wield)? Or maybe both?? I read that in Throne of Baal Dual-wield is very strong..

3. Any other tips maybe? Thanks

Go 2 Handers with Paladins, ALLWAYS. The best (or second best) weapon in the game is a Paladin-Only Twohander (do the quest you get by the man in the copper coronet which starts with the "transformed" Paladins attacking you when you enter the area).

@zamnal:

1. I'd certainly accept this roll: the one point will hardly make a difference. In fact, you don't need high strength, because you will want to use strength enhancing equipment later on anyway. You should buy the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength at the adventurer's mart ASAP after you leave the first dungeon. You can also get Mauler's Arm for STR 18 in the Copper Coronet.

2. There are good ways to play both styles. One of the most powerful weapons in the game is Crom Faeyr, a warhammer that sets STR to 25. You probably should have one of your melee characters wield that in the off hand for insane THAC0 and damage bonuses. Flail of Ages is then a good option for the main hand. (Important: you always make one attack per round with the off hand, and the other attacks are with the main hand, so put the weapon with the good bonuses in the off hand, and with the good damage in the main hand.) On the other hand, Carsomyr is a very powerful two handed sword that remains useful throughout Throne of Bhaal.

3. Use the Inquisitor's Dispel Magic and True Seeing abilities a lot: those are among the best spells in the game!

One last tip: for Shadows of Amn, single or dual class characters are usually the most powerful by the end of the game. However, fighter and thief characters do not really improve very much in power beyond level 20 or so (because by then the THAC0 cap is reached). Therefore, the characters that are strongest by the end of Throne of Bhaal are usually either single class spellcasters, dual classed from fighter or thief to a spellcaster, or multiclassed fighter/thief or fighter/caster characters (which are then used as fighters). Take that into account when choosing companions. For example, Jan Jansen and Jaheira are so-so during SoA, but they end up being quite good for ToB.

1- 18/00 is the best of the 18 but 18/95 is almost perfect for a starting character. ( You will find some useful "books" if you play BG1 first anyway so don't worry too much about this stat )
You can also get some magic items or spells to increase you strenght anyway.

Imo Wisdom is way more important than CHA or INT for a paladin. You get access to more spells at higher levels and get a slight save bonus. INT is only useful vs mindflayers if you are not a mage.

2- Paladins can get a sick two had sword ( for pal only ) in BG2 and ToB idk what team you want but i think it would be sad to not use it.

If you want to min/max go for 18/91+ strength score (it gives you an attack bonus and a good damage bonus). Getting 18/00 (only gives +1 more of damage then 18/91+) is really hard while also having other good stats. Also 18/76+ is OK.

I would also suggest going two-handed, as your paladin sword is a two-hander.

BTW, I am also playing BG Trilogy with Big World addons (not all) and playing from BG1 and lvl1.
I have a Mage/Cleric, took me forever to roll decent starts (had to sacrifice strength and now cannot use some weapons or shields :/ or carry a lot of equipment). Fun time. BG1 is still more fun and awesome then most new RPG games, including big ones like Dragon Age or Mass Effect

1. Thats a great role. might mix up the points a bit but you should definitely keep.

2. As a paladin I like to go for 2 handed weapons and 2 handed sword since they have access to some of the best weapons in the game as listed above (Paladins can also use some pretty nice war-hammers so if you are not planning on taking anyone else in your party like Anomen who can also use them then you should throw some points there as well seeing that some are very vital to have at points in the game (first time in Graveyard Catacombs for you guys wondering).
I like having fun and running around dual wielding long swords as a warrior (I've had some pretty pimped out characters running around with Daystar (or another good longsword based on the situation) and Equilizer and just killing stuff like i do on Valygar on my current playthrough. I gave him lots of Magic resist and saving throw helpers and sent him off as a mage slayer cause you face lots of evil mages)

3. For party make sure you have ample spell casting. Sometimes if I find that I am not a spell caster I have trouble since spell casters are vital.

If you even wish to try solo BG2, go for Druid/werewolf kit. Once you get to greater werewolf form+buffs you are unstoppable. Actually, you are stopable but since you know what you will face once you prepare yourself with proper buffs then it is easy.

But for most awesome character you need to make a Sorcerer and play Throne of Bhaal. Robe of Vecna + Improved Alaricity do crazy stuff in the game.

For awesome spellcaster before ToB kensai with specialization in quarterstaffs, then at lvl 9 dual class to wizard. Once you get your hands on Staff of Archmagi (pretty tough to get that before lvl 13+ and you need a close to full party), you can solo rest of the game in easy mode (gets boring pretty fast). Only tough thing about this build is once you dual class your character is pretty useless until he hits lvl 10 and gets back all the abilities lvl 9 kensai had. You can make this faster by hoarding all the spell scrolls you collect until that point and remove all party members from the group before writing them so you get all the XP (you get 1000 x spell level on the scroll of XP per scroll). This should level you up pretty fast but still getting a wizard to lvl 10 at that point the game with a full party will take some time.

Wooooooooow!!1 OMG, I can't believe it... What a roll!!!

Before starting the adventure, while already having a 95-point roll, I decided to try few more times to see if I can get to 96 and got rewarded with 97 points instead. Greed is good, sometimes, i guess

Monster roll & starting stats:

Sword Coast, here i come!

PS: I have exported the original character file for this Paladin Inquisitor for anyone who might wanna use it. Download it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?oqhnr7pbuub08bo
To use it, extract the .zip file to your ..\Black Isle\BG\characters\ folder and choose "Import Character File" and pick HOLIC when creating a new game (you can rename your character after the import).

Decent stats, I would have made a 18 / 18 / 18 / 7 / 18 / 18 paladin with that.
I think i have already spend 1+ hour to get a sick roll lol.
I could use and editor or cheat with "books" but i guess i just like rolling the dices :p

nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

you should have put two pips into long bows instead of two handed weapon, it's much more useful. you should build like this: greatsword **, long bow **, quarterstaff **, axe/knife/xbow *, two handed style ** in that order.

greatsword for spider's bane in bg1 and carsomyr in bg2, your main weapons. long bow because you won't get very far in bg1 without it, especially early on when a few lucky 20-s from a horde of goblins/orcs/kobolds can mean a reload. later for arrows of dispelling. quarterstaff for beating up golems and other creatures that are immune to slashing and because qstaves are usually the highest enchanted weapons available in bg1 and soa so are useful against creatures immune to lower enchantments. knife/axe/xbow as your backup ranged weapon in soa, useful when you have to hit unreachable targets or are almost dead but someone else is using the only good longbow in soa. two handed style is taken last, it's only kinda useful for making the best out of your whirlwind attacks.

Why not just go for Shortbow? There are several good ones in SoA which don't need arrows... Arrows are annoying ....

yup, casters get ridic late in ToB with all the level 8 spells flying around. Stop time, summon angels of death, turn your mage into a super powerful archer, instagib people and so forth

Fighters get some pretty nifty endgame skills as well, but they just don't compare to the sheer frontloaded carnage a mage or cleric can dish out. you really want your fighters to be tanks and debuffers, or monks, because monks are just plain retarded when they hit level 25-30. I oneshot one of the bosses once, it was beautiful.

Most fun part of being a caster in ToB was when you run into that Fire Giant stronghold with your sorcerer and a bunch of superpowered fire giants attack you all at once.

You cast improved alaricity and then Time Stop. Then you cast Emotion (weakness?! - the one that reduced all their saves by 4) and then finger of death at each of them :D

When time stop runs out they all drop dead :D

Why you say choose Greatsword** and not Two Handed Sword**?? None of the weapons that you have mentioned have a Greatsword proficiency:

I read things like this (source: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/52948324)

....
So if it were me I would put 2 * in 2 handed swords, 2 * in 2 handed style, use spider's bane for all of BG1, and sink all your points from levels into the dual wield/bastard sword route. By the time you get to ToB you'll be good to go.
....

So someone is wrong. Can somebody confirm which proficiency is correct for Spider's Bane, Carsomyr etc.?

I can't decide whether Minsc or Edwin is the more hilarious. One is blindly good the other is dastardly evil, but the latter also gets + Show Spoiler +

Also, my favorite character over both games is Viconia. I always dug the "evil but not quite" cleric.

Just started my Baldur's Gate Trilogy playthrough now. Going with a Kensai dual-ed to mage at level 9. Playing on insane with SCS and SCSII installed (way harder difficulty)

Rolled 90 stats (which is way harder to roll as a figher than a paladin fyi)

18/47 str
17dex
18con
17int
7wis
13cha

The +1 tomes should transform me into an uber char by the end of BG1.

Favourite party for BG1 is
Me
Imoen always take her, as i feel she is an integral part of the story, and thus indispensable). Gonna dual her to mage at lvl 7, just like in BG2
Kivan - sick archer
Jaheira - my main priest spellcaster, also integral to the storyline and she gets insanely strong by the time ToB kicks in
Minsc - crazy good 2H fighter in vanilla, with his high str and very useful berserk ability
Edwin - was going to go with Dynaheir originally, seeing as she fits this party better roleplaying wise, but Edwin is just too sick to pass

And for Bg2

Me Kensai/Mage to be dual wielding Celestial Fury and Belm (in ToB replace Celestial Fury with Foebane)
Imoen - she will be my thief, and a 3rd support mage; before i get her back from Spellhold, i will use the comic relief gnome known as Jan. I hear he loves turnips!
Korgan - a monster in the frontlines, will eventually wend up dual wielding Axe of Unyielding and Crom Faeyr
Keldorn - Best paladin class, and will be able to use Carsomyr. In ToB he gets replaced by the godlike Sarevok, who will attack with Gram the Sword of Grief +5
Jaheira - i love Viconia's character more, but Jaheira is stronger overall, more impactful to the main char and also Keldorn ends up attacking Viconia, they can't stand each other
Edwin - absolutely beastly in BG2, getting a ton more spells per each level thanks to his unique amulet

Now i just gotta psyche myself and get through the first few boring chapters of Baldur's Gate 1,
before things start to get real nice and juicy

P.S. don't steal my sick party line-up, i coined this beautiful beautiful composition
But here are some good tips regarding other NPC's. Haer'dalis is a sicko if you know how to abuse him properly, his defensive spin + free action makes him practically immune to physical attacks

Also heard some great great things about Aerie, once she gets deep into ToB. Even though she's weak in SoA, by the time si gets her HLA's and high end priest/arcane spells, she can cast some unstoppable combination of spells.

And another big abuse, you can use the 2 scrolls of spell immunity found in the Adventurer's Mart on the quickslot icons of a Vhailor Helm Simulacrum illusion ability. This way you get infinity spell immunities, mages in the game can't even touch you if you do this. But it's such a blatant abuse, i actually used a mod to remove the Helm from the game, way too broken.
