I found this on another forum:

As for high wisdom, I thought level 9 (10/) Paladin gets priest spells so it's a must. It's a minimum of 13, I assumed for a reason. From a roleplay view if I need 13 wisdom at least it must be important.

Wisdom has applications in PnP, but it isn't implemented in BG. Wisdom is supposed to give a bonus to saving throws, but it wasn't implemented. The only thing BG implements regarding wisdom is that clerics and druids gets bonus spells for high wisdom, but paladins do not. So therefore wisdom is useless for any class other than a cleric or druid.

Is this true?

The +1 tomes should transform me into an uber char by the end of BG1.

Favourite party for BG1 is
Me
Imoen always take her, as i feel she is an integral part of the story, and thus indispensable). Gonna dual her to mage at lvl 7, just like in BG2
Kivan - sick archer
Jaheira - my main priest spellcaster, also integral to the storyline and she gets insanely strong by the time ToB kicks in
Minsc - crazy good 2H fighter in vanilla, with his high str and very useful berserk ability
Edwin - was going to go with Dynaheir originally, seeing as she fits this party better roleplaying wise, but Edwin is just too sick to pass

And for Bg2

Me Kensai/Mage to be dual wielding Celestial Fury and Belm (in ToB replace Celestial Fury with Foebane)
Imoen - she will be my thief, and a 3rd support mage; before i get her back from Spellhold, i will use the comic relief gnome known as Jan. I hear he loves turnips!
Korgan - a monster in the frontlines, will eventually wend up dual wielding Axe of Unyielding and Crom Faeyr
Keldorn - Best paladin class, and will be able to use Carsomyr. In ToB he gets replaced by the godlike Sarevok, who will attack with Gram the Sword of Grief +5
Jaheira - i love Viconia's character more, but Jaheira is stronger overall, more impactful to the main char and also Keldorn ends up attacking Viconia, they can't stand each other
Edwin - absolutely beastly in BG2, getting a ton more spells per each level thanks to his unique amulet

Now i just gotta psyche myself and get through the first few boring chapters of Baldur's Gate 1,
before things start to get real nice and juicy

P.S. don't steal my sick party line-up, i coined this beautiful beautiful composition
But here are some good tips regarding other NPC's. Haer'dalis is a sicko if you know how to abuse him properly, his defensive spin + free action makes him practically immune to physical attacks

Also heard some great great things about Aerie, once she gets deep into ToB. Even though she's weak in SoA, by the time si gets her HLA's and high end priest/arcane spells, she can cast some unstoppable combination of spells.

And another big abuse, you can use the 2 scrolls of spell immunity found in the Adventurer's Mart on the quickslot icons of a Vhailor Helm Simulacrum illusion ability. This way you get infinity spell immunities, mages in the game can't even touch you if you do this. But it's such a blatant abuse, i actually used a mod to remove the Helm from the game, way too broken.

How do you get Minsc in BG1 without getting Dynaheir? Also Edwin asks you to kill Dynaheir while Minsc asks you to save her. I cannot see a way for you to have both of them in the party.

And I cannot agree with you about "boring" chapters in BG1. All the map exploring is the most fun part of BG1.

BTW, what is the point of playing Kensai/mage in BG2 with a party? That character is strong enough to solo the game easily, with party the game is too easy.

Let's just say Dynaheir suffers an "unfortunate" accident, running head on into a pack of angry gnolls only to meet her demise.. :D If he's in the party also, Edwin gets a real stiffy out of this incident hahaha

I've explored all of BG1 like 3 times now, so there's not much fun in it for me, especially since i have few options at early levels, almost no good spells or abilities to use for variety.

And regarding the kensai/mage, did you read that i play on Insane with Sword Coast Stratagems mod installed? The game is much, much harder than vanilla this way. And Kensai/Mage is one of the most powerful classes in the game, if not The best one. Mainly because you're still a great fighter but you have all these great protections cast on yourself, making you highly resistant to pretty much anything. And you can follow it up with a Time Stop spell and proceed to slash an enemy uncontested.

There are some great Baldur's Gate add-ons in this link below. Even one in particular that takes the Dragon Age engine and converts the first 2 hours of Shadows of Amn. Enjoy. :D

I think you lack a Cleric, i like Clerics .

With Imoen + Edwin you got "enough" Magic anyway (well, thats not really possible but i hope you understand or download Tashia) but you completly lack a Cleric? Kick Jaheira (she isn't important in BG2, just imagine she has a total mental breakdown in Irenicus Dungeon and kick her :p).

Get a Ranger --> Cleric as HC, its awesome. It's kinda like a Druid/Cleric-Dualclass in a single Class. Kinda like a more defensive orientated Kenai/Mage...

I would go for:

Ranger -> Cleric (I don't know at which levels this makes the most sense).
Edwin
Korgan
Imoen (you need a thief anyway and she's sufficient).
Nothing more needed (Keldorn or Tashia are always nice to have tho...).

Hah, that is mean what you did to poor Dynaheir. But since she ask me stupid questions all the time I might do that to her as well :D

And yes, I forgot you added higher difficulty mods. In that case Kensai/Mage will be sorely needed but your game will be even harder until you get to unlock his kensai abilities again.

I have added Big World pack to my BG1+BG2 game with most recommended addons so I have plenty to discover in the beginning of BG1.

Once I made a Ranger/Cleric character (multiclass), I was pleasantly surprised to find out once I got access to lvl 4 cleric spells, I also had Stoneskin on the list :D
Basically it is a fighter that gets access to all cleric spells and most druid spells.

The imho best thing about an R/C or R->C is that you don't have the "Druid-Gap" while leveling up from 14 to 15 (or where was that level which needs the ridiculous amount of XP?) which makes Jahreia "bad" for most of SoA.

Btw: It's Ironskin, which is even better than Stoneskin?

Btw2: Is a ranger/cleric/mage possible? That would be hilarious :D.

I always stick with any class that can set traps. The Wizard Slayer class is good too, due to the amount of mages you have to fight.

My party normally consists of Imoen (spellcaster/limited traps), Jaheira (I like her storylines/and she can cure and restore), Minsc(it's Minsc), Aerie (Cleric), Yoshimo (for extra traps or traps in general).

Well god damn it you made me change my mind now. I realized how much i love Viconia's character, even if she is weaker in ToB compared to Jaheira, i think she is the most compelling NPC in the game overall, has the best romance, and strongest Cleric by far with excellent stats. I can also get her to 21 wisdom in BG1 using the tomes, which is pretty sick. Bye bye Jaheira, go annoy someone else.

I am currently running around with Keldorn, Jaheira, Minsc, Dynaheir and Imoen. I don't plan to dual class Imoen (I need a rogue and for BG2 I don't care as you lose her for half the game anyways).
My main is Cleric/Mage so I got both spellcasting classes doubled and got a good lineup of fighters and half fighters and Imoen to provide special skills and ranged fire.

How can you have Keldorn and Dynaheir in the same party? Keldorn is BG2 only, while Dynaheir dies before BG2 starts.

You can use her through the Tortured Souls Mod. But otherwise, yeah I think she's dead.

greatsword for spider's bane in bg1 and carsomyr in bg2, your main weapons. long bow because you won't get very far in bg1 without it, especially early on when a few lucky 20-s from a horde of goblins/orcs/kobolds can mean a reload. later for arrows of dispelling. quarterstaff for beating up golems and other creatures that are immune to slashing and because qstaves are usually the highest enchanted weapons available in bg1 and soa so are useful against creatures immune to lower enchantments. knife/axe/xbow as your backup ranged weapon in soa, useful when you have to hit unreachable targets or are almost dead but someone else is using the only good longbow in soa. two handed style is taken last, it's only kinda useful for making the best out of your whirlwind attacks.

Why you say choose Greatsword** and not Two Handed Sword**?? None of the weapons that you have mentioned have a Greatsword proficiency:

I read things like this (source: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/258273-baldurs-gate-ii-shadows-of-amn/52948324)

....
So if it were me I would put 2 * in 2 handed swords, 2 * in 2 handed style, use spider's bane for all of BG1, and sink all your points from levels into the dual wield/bastard sword route. By the time you get to ToB you'll be good to go.
....

So someone is wrong. Can somebody confirm which proficiency is correct for Spider's Bane, Carsomyr etc.?

oooops, i've been playing too much icewind dale lately. yea, i meant two handed sword.

the ** in two weapon style gives you a better crit chance. that's pretty much it. so while you do 5% extra dmg vs enemies not immune to crits by default, with two weapon proficiency you do 10% extra dmg. your dmg per round with a two handed sword during bg1 is rarely over 20, so two weapon style gives you at most +1 dmg/round (not per attack like weapon proficiency). it's really nothing to write home about. now, being able to shoot 3-4 arows at enemies before they ever reach you or cast a spell is much more valuable. so is having an extra blunt weapon of high enchantment. once you get greater whirlwind and a +6 sword that 5% extra dmg will be huge. unfortunately, by then most enemies will be crit-immune. whoever wrote that post didn't do his math imo.

as for dual wield bastard sword, dunno why anyone would give up carsomyr for a much weaker version. dual wield is never good just for the extra attack (it's not even that great early in the game because it lowers attack and shields are great early), especially in the end game where gww gives 10 attacks total regardless of how many weapons you use. dual wielding is used to power up your main hand (crom faeyr gives you 25 str, equalizer gives great dmg bonus to the main hand weapon, belm/kundane/scarlett give an extra attack) or to tank with defender of easthaven.

I am creating a new Inquisitor character for my party right now and I get 9??? proficiency points at the "Skills" screen. How did this happen, I don't understand. Is this normal or even possible?
I have no intentions and didn't use any tweaks or external programs to change/break the game. I have normal install + official patches + BG2 fixpack + BGT + widescreen mod.

edit: And how can I set it back to normal? It was always 4 points for me before. Please halp! I don't want to start over after having rolled those godly stats. lol.
