I think you should wait and learn more and maybe after a few updates consider buying it. It is VERY similar to WoW in much of the basics, UI, Quests, etc but also has very nice customization right off the bat and open questing. The only fun aspect I remember is the rift invasions in which mobs would overrun the towns if you were careless/noone was questing around them. And from the beta/alpha the warfronts were pretty much jokes. So yeah, wait for updates and gameplay videos to impress you enough for that buy.

Rift has world pvp which wow hasn't had for years.

Nice to take a break from wow to play a new mmo but i cant see myself hitting max level before returning to wow.

Its VERY similar to wow, what makes me play it instead of wow is:
Ascended soul system: its basically dual specc on crack with a lager pool of talents, for eg as a claric i can switch between tanking/healing/melee/ranged dps on the fly.
Rifts: they are kind of random pqs from warhammer, but they arent fixed in place spawn random mobs and ive heard that some of them have diffrent mechnics like killing eggs etc etc (havent seen that yet though).
Open world PvP: while it isnt it main seeling point like the two above, i have had alot more open world pvp in rift then i have had in wow for a long time.
but other then that its pretty much the same as wow, it has some unique features like collectibles and guild quests taht arent in wow but thats it. So unless you find the things above interesting, rift is probally not for you.
ohh i forgot to mention that the graphics blows wow out of the water, you need a decent pc to do so, but tbh good graphics isnt enough to make it fun, its just eye candy.

so far im enjoying it a ton. the rifts force you to work together and i think later on that will translate into being easier to do world pvp. the instances are fun and i like the classes better. i also like the way the game looks. 5/5 for me. anyone playing on dayblind server hit me up!

I'm now on Harrow, lvl 20 I like that there are so many different ways to level, you never feel like you're grinding. PvP gives good xp quests are generally interesting normal rifts are a diversion from questing Zone invasions are a lot of fun to band together with a large group and fight off. Heading into a dungeon
I've just been casually bouncing between all of these slowly leveling up, it feels like a game to enjoy the leveling experience in, as opposed to something like WoW where you grind to max and then sit around.

Well at one point 2/3mths after launch on EU ppl were getting reported and GMs kicking ppl off. I think they gave up after a while though lol.
Also holy shit! Soul purge is the fucking bomb!
I'm lvl 19 and was soloing wave after wave of elite lvl 15 invaders. Trying to solo defend an area (but just too many of em lol). Killing soo many elites and finally the invasion boss when ppl turned up. Ended up making around 200 planarite + tons of other stuff in 30m or so.
Then i went into a Warfront and just raped anyone that came to challenge me. Its funny getting low and ppl committing to killing you, and you just throw soul purge get all ur health back and they die hahaha.
Btw: Current server pop status. 7 high (wow briarcliff not full atm..) 28 Med and 4 low. Day before official launch. Expect at least half of these med servers to become high. Hopefully they dont have to open any more up..

PvP in this game really needs some work. I'm not talking about balance, but the animations are just god awful.
Half the time you can't tell one CC from another.
Sometimes you have to click on the target twice or three time to actually have him selected, this is especially true while you're moving.
As a Riftblade, all I do is hit two buttons and I win. When I play my Sab, all I do is hit two buttons and win.
I got bored of Rifts in beta 6, that's why I've been leveling solely off WFs, and only questing when I need plat.

You realize that you're pvping at max level of 34 or so from beta, and that you continue to gain masses of new abilities.
If as a riftstalker you were using 2 buttons you were failing hard, you need to be utilizing 5-6 of their different teleports, keeping up the various buffs you get from teleporting to be fully effectual in pvp. This on top of the various builders and finishers, each providing buffs and debuffs that you don't want to be refreshing before they will expire, then the various cooldowns you will be using throughout everything. Rift is harder then WoW to be decent at, but still fairly easy to be at that "can play a class" level, but has a massive skill curve towards mastery, simply because of the large number of things you can end up being able to do if you spec right.
I do agree with the sentiment that CC needs to be more visually apparent though.
edit: misread riftblade as riftstalker, the sentiment still stands though, you gain a lot of new abilities at higher levels that make pvp very dynamic.

Riftblade, not Riftstalker.
And I'll have to wait until lvl 50 PvP before I can gauge how it compares to WoW Arenas and BGs.

If anyone does play this game, Defiants, Snarebrush, contact Aeroscythe/Egwene. A few of us are from top 10 us WoW guilds and most of us "especially me" are obsessed with SC2 ^.^.

Started streaming my warrior for some friends, come check it out if you want to see what Rifts all about. I will mainly be doing PvP and instances throwing in a few quests and Rift encounters here and there. At the time of this posting my warrior is level 23.

Hey guys, I'm just wondering how many of you are in the 'Head Start' thing on EU servers. If you care to drop some info here it would be cool or to PM me. Just starting to play it now (85% downloaded) would be nice to see if any TL members are on the EU servers and find whereabouts they are :> thanks.

I didn't buy it through steam but if you are trying to register a trion account go to riftgame.com and do it through there instead of the launcher.
And make sure you aren't trying to use the beta client (not that I know how you would do that via steam or anything)

This game has a lot going for it, if you're on the fence about it, give it a try. Get past lvl 20 and you'll just really start to enjoy everything about it. I am not saying that pre lvl 20 is lame, i am saying that after lvl 20 more and more unlocks. I can't wait to get past 30, 40, ect..
