There's an open beta until Monday, so this is definitely worth checking out if you've got an empty weekend. Will it be worth paying a monthly fee? Doubtful, unless it's much cheaper than WoW.

MMORPGS really needs to find another model and do something original and unique, just like EVE. All these WoW clones (there are way too many) are pure garbage. How many hours did you give it? I am going to guess 1-2? You probably opened the soul tree and was like "OMFG ITS WOW CLONE AND SUCK LAWL GG". Go back to WoW. We don't want you playing this game anyways.

It's definitely similar to WoW, so if you enjoy that then you may enjoy this. The art style is a bit more 'fantastical', but if you can suspend your disbelief well enough then it's quite interesting. I was actually surprised at the level of detail in the graphics: very polished on max settings. I haven't explored much of the world, but so far it seems nicely detailed. The sub-classes are interesting; I think each main class has 8 subclasses, which you choose two of. This makes for lots of variety even though there are only four 'major' classes. You choose 3 actually, but you don't want to be putting points in more than 2, but get the 3rd soul for "free" so to speak, to get the 0 point skills :p

Dark fall was trying to break the mold, it failed. No one will try again for some time. Perpetuum... I've only played Rift beta for 2hrs, but it feels just like War but with shitty combat. Skills dont queue, seem to have some sort of lag and cant time skills after cd properly. Game looks incredibly bland. Wont be pre-ordering. Have a friend who loves it, but then again he plays WoW so.. Back to playing LoL wating for GW2/SwTor.

I've played WoW since beta - basically, I'm sick of it, and no matter how long of a break I take, I just can't get back into the game. When I first started this game up, I felt like there were MANY elements that felt like they came straight from WoW, but now after playing for a bit longer I can safely say this game is pretty damn good, and it doesn't feel like WoW at all anymore. The universe and graphics are incredible - not similar to WoW at all, which can be a little bland at times. The class system is probably the most significant departure from the norm, and I feel like it's more than enough to separate the game from any other MMO. It offers so much customization - you can literally be whatever you want. I started off as a mage with the souls Stormcaller/Pyromancer/Elementalist, but that felt a little bland so I rerolled a type of character I never make - a Warrior, with the souls Riftblade/Champion/Paragon. Basically a warrior who can use magic (including some range), specialized in 2 handers. I find the mix to be very fun to play. Each soul has a talent tree larger than a class in WoW - and of course a few talents overlap in the 32 potential souls, but not in name, and there's often at least a slight difference between them. The most awesome system IMO is the Rift PQ (public quest) system, which adds to the universe as well. You'll be questing and out of random, a rift may open up around you (minor or major), which you can close for a reward based on your participation. You can't solo it, but anybody who passes by can join up in your public group and help complete it. Occasionally massive zone-wide invasions occur, where up to 50 rifts open up and the whole zone must close them all while doing some other objective. The PvP so far seems pretty cool, though I haven't done much of it. So ultimately people bashing on this game probably haven't played enough of it; I definitely agreed with them my first few hours. I can see myself buying this for sure, if I can promise myself to continue practicing SC2 just as often :D.

Or Earthrise or Firefall or Dark Millenium Online or Mortal Online or Fallen Earth. If you don't like World of WarCraft, there are plenty of games out there. Not to mention the fact that Darkfall didn't fail. It has done exactly what any reasonable person thought it would.

It's crappier in every single way the attack animations don't even work properly. The reason it seems superficial is because if I actually took the time to list every flaw it would take all day. Here I'll list some. PvP has no balance and no collision detection. When participating in a rift the only way to reach gold participation for each round is to spam your quickest spell/ability ONLY, this means you are not rewarded for proper healing or doing actual dps. Like I said before if you pay for this thing enjoy you're vastly inferior product and you'll probably stop playing it a month after release. BTW the rifts spawn in the same locations with the exact same mobs (oh so innovative) the only thing that changes is the amount rifts active by how many players in the zone which doesn't matter because the rifts are retardedly easy to take down. Playing this game felt like playing the first MMO ever made, like if the technology just came into existence and they're still working it out. If I could describe rift in one word it would be: Knockoff: An imitation of something, particularly a well-known product, usually lower in quality and price than the original Let's take apart your post, and see why you have no idea what you're talking about. 1. PvP balance based off of low level experience is worthless, as someone else said. It's not balanced around low levels, it's balanced around max level. 2. Rifts DO NOT spawn the same mobs every time. I have seen death rifts spawn different types of creatures in the same zones. I have seen water rifts spawn different type of creates in the same zone. You just got unlucky, and saw the same mobs appear. Randomization, it's pretty sweet. Also, the Rifts don't spawn in the same spots everytime. In the low level zones, there are a few places at the beginning where Rifts spawn, but once you leave that part, it becomes a lot more random. 3. When participating in a Rfit, spamming your quickest spell and ability does not earn you points. I actually heal people, and dps properly, and am always on top in the score board. I do my job correctly, and am always rewarded for it. 4. As far as I can see, the attack animations work just fine. I have yet to see anything wrong with them. In fact, I rarely see a bug in the game, and I'm not really oblivious to bugs. In your previous post, you said the graphics were 0/10. There's no way in fucking hell that the graphics in Rift are worse than WoW's. I've played both (3 year WoW veteran, and Beta 5 Rift player), and Rift's graphics are way better. It uses the same engine as Oblivion and Fallout 3... which are far better looking games than WoW. So sir, either pull your head out of your ass and play the damn game, or stop posting about shit you don't know about. You're worse than some of the trolls that hop on the open beta, and start talking crap. I brought this up in game but everyone was like PVE SERVERS THAT WAY>>>>>>>> What I mean by unplayable is, if a major rift invasion like Jakub one happens in a evenly divided Contested zone, I don't think it will ever be cleaned up. That zone will be unplayable for everyone because of the PVP/Rift. Everyone will fight over the rifts, so no one will actually be able to complete them. While I am only level 27, I feel that it will be a endless struggle to clear the rifts unless the sides come to an agreement, but if loot is involved, that won't happen. I don't really know how to explain it well because I am not that far into it, but has anyone else

Have to agree with above. Was just in a lvl 15-19 zone doing a rift with 8 ppl and this guardian comes out of nowhere (they don't display lvl) and he tore through us. 2 lvl 26s turned up and he slaughtered them too. So I dunno whats the deal with that. He musta been lvl 30 or some shit. Can anyone explain the pvp ruleset (cause it doesn't mention shit at server selection). Im all for pvp but that was just retarded.. That was in Freemarch btw. I thought these themepark mmos had zone lvl restrictions or something.

MO and FE failed. He said noone would be making another sandbox for some time. Perp released in Oct and did quite well. Unlike Darkfall which was hyped for a decade and then had an atrocious launch etc etc. They are going the route of AoC trying to improve the game long after it burned ppl who will nvr return.

When u max out the gfx in a game you expect it to look good. Compare this to Lotro for example (even at launch) and you can see the difference. Once you get used to it however you will see why its like that with the environment constantly changing with rifts. I can imagine the technical issues and gameplay performance in a highly detailed world that changes often and quite suddenly.

I normally play a debuffer/CC class in rpg games, for example I played a warlock in WoW. Reading the Rift Wiki it seems that a warlock/necro combo would be perfect for me. I'd probably throw in archmage for pvp. Does anyone have any experience with that or a similar combo and would it play out how I think it would (affliction/demo warlock from WoW)? Another question, do the race special abilities actually matter? I like the look of the Defiant but would I be screwed if I made a Bahmi mage character? I loved my orc warlock in WoW ![]() My general thought was play through the game as something I'm familiar with at first then branch out.

I played the War/ Necro combo focusing on War up to lvl 20 and quite enjoyed it. I would recommend going full necro though so u have a pet that can tank. I have survival issues which are bad enough with the low mana regen (so im constantly sacrificing health for mana then leeching it back lol). Hopefully it becomes less of an issue further on.
