Does anyone have alpha invite(s)? I played beta5 and the game was amazing, would love to grab a couple of my friends and play that shit, would be greatly appreciated. Definately pre-ordering as well.

i play these games to pvp. warhammer online and daoc were my previous mmo's. WAR's pvp was good. each class had a distinctive look, even from a distance, and collision detection added a surprising amount (tanks could tank). the global cooldown of 1.5 seconds after each ability use slows the game down once you get good at it. its not a mindless spamfest.

i wish rift would add that stuff from WAR. as it is now rift pvp is a muddy faceroll, unpolished. its like they just assumed their systems would work in pvp without testing them properly. let me rephrase, their systems do work in pvp, but they are not fun.

to the guy on the last page who was saying that wardens could outheal his damage, and ranged can kite, etc. this is a TEAM game. 1v1 balance is not realistic in my experience in a game like this.

Yep, this became clear to me pretty quick. Rift PvP is definitely meant to be played in teams (although maybe at high levels this will change).

Did you miss the part where I said all group PvP is mass ranged DPS with healers behind them or did you just choose to ignore it as it destroys your argument?

To be fair you played SHAMAN. I rolled a shaman too in pvp and it was HORRIBLE. Shaman offer barely any control over your opponent "except that one fury of the winter storm buff or w/e that slows your opponent on attack constantly". I think Shaman is just a pure raw dps class and is probably the highest dps pve class in the game. OFC if you were all twinked out and were a higher level you would get your charge skill and probably quite literally 2-3 shot most ranged squishies. If you want a pvp class shaman isnt it. I played a riftblade/voidknight in battlegrounds and it turned out quite nice, you get some amazing slows (50% slow for 15 seconds? Melee has trouble keeping ranged close, really? Look up the skill "Freeze Armor" you get relatively early on.). Champions get a charge at level one. The main problem is that sometimes theres simply much more ranged than melee in battlegrounds, I bet if battlegrounds had a higher melee ratio ranged classes would get steam rolled, even if they had cleric support. Assassins are the bane of kiting ranged classes because they can destroy them in seconds. People haven't figured out how to deal with clerics at the moment, although I did try playing dominator and they countered clerics pretty hard with that one skill "priests lament" or whatever it was called. Its too early to tell anything really, this game could be absolutely balanced at level 50 and noone can tell.

I haven't tried, but I'm going to assume my necro/warlock/dominator build will be imbalanced in PvP. So many dots, lots of selfheals and a pet. Just dot up, send pet. Every attack pet lands, you're healed. Dot ticks, healed. Should be amazing to kite with, as soon as player focuses pet, you just turn around and nuke them.

It's true, but you'll probably still get healing reduced and targeted if people are smart and don't just let you sit there wtfdotting everything. The one thing about Rift, is that it seems like targeting healers first isn't as productive as other MMOs. I'd imagine once people learn a bit more about the mechanics, and what can and can't be done at higher levels, things will be different.

Lol at people saying PvP is going to be all healers + ranged DPS. You guys ever play a mmo before?

In all MMOs, ranged DPS dominates until people get geared out & max level. Gear tends to effect meleers more than casters, and melee chars generally gain skills to mitigate the range effect (snares, anti-cc, etc) as they level up more. Stop with the chicken-little sky-is-falling stuff. I'm playing a melee, too.

One thing to add, is that people are probably a lot more reluctant to do BGs and stuff as a melee, UNLESS you are with a premade. As a melee, I'm not to fond to jump into a BG by myself and have to rely on random people to heal / help me. Ranged you can just sit back and hang out with all the other ranged players, likely to get a heal just because everyone is around you, but being melee is a different story.

Its not imbalanced at all, my highest level is a warlock and its not as simple as dotting someone up and running away. You have to be very activate with your fears and stuns and if any melee hero with a two handed weapon happens to catch you its pretty much GG, your dots wont even kill him in time to save you, and you sure as hell arent gonna be standing still and casting void bolts. Marksman can also handle that combination of classes pretty easily since they outrange/outdps your dots even if you miraculously happen to get all your dots (including neddras grasp) on them. Whos to say some cleric just throws a couple of heals on someone and thereby reducing the chance of them dying to zero percent?

On a PvP server whenever you are in a contested area, players of opposite faction can attack you.
When you are on a PvE server, they can't!

I preordered it. The HUGE amount of customization you can do with the 9 souls is so fun.

I spent 4 hours yesterday fighting myself to make a great PvP build.

Void Knight / Pally / Champion

2 in combat charges (1 champ 1 pally)
1 "get over here" pull (void knight)
29% damage reduction from spells (void knight + pally)
2 CC breakers (1 pally 1 champ)
Ungodly amounts of mana burn / Silences. (Fuck yea Void Knight)
3 buff purge and 3 debuff dispel (Fuck yea Void Knight)

I am trying to build the ultimate warrior caster/healer killer. With all the charges and "get over here move" and my 2 CC breakers....I should be on top of the caster at all times. This paired with mana burn + silence + spell reflect = dead caster. This is exactly why I LOVE this soul system. What other game can I really customize to my play style THAT MUCH.

Not sure if that's true. In GW casters' DPS scales with equipments a lot heavier than in other games.
