Just finished it up for the first playthrough, pretty amazing game, I love love love the art style, and the combat was the best of the mash-em-up style I've ever played, not that that's saying much.

Story is well worth it too, impressed with the writing.

If anyone is on the fence, buy it

It's a pretty cool game, I'm not the biggest fan of the narrators voice, but it's still cool how he narrates your story actively as you play through the game. I'm hoping for DLC for new weapons, zones and expansions. Completed the starter zones and 4 others, in addition to the first two weapon challenges (only unlocked the lowest tier item so far).

Omg this is the only game i can think of that I would buy DLC for the instant it came out. I've NEVER bought separate DLC before, ever. ie only when they come out with a cheap bundle on steam for the entire game + DLC.

lol same here, Effing loving this game, but man, some parts, are just ridiculous, the trials, or challenges or w/e you call them, are just outright annoying and frustrating. I have been getting 2nd place in all of them, but getting 1st place is just not worth the time IMO. Not to mention that stupid part with the reflections, wave after wave of enemies is fine, but you just keep falling through holes in the level that enemies create, and its very annoying. After about 3 hrs of playing the game, id say its an 8/10 for me, great aesthetic, story, and gameplay, but there are REALLY frustrating areas in the game that just piss me off, and that's why i'm here now, need a break, before I break something.

This game is really, really good. Once you get used to counter-blocking and find a combo you like you start flying through the levels a little too easily, but holy crap is this a polished game. Worth 15 dollars easily.

Apart from Borderlands GOTY, this is the best $15 I've ever spent.
One of my favorite aracde games for sure, amazing art style, gameplay was awesome, and awesome writing.
This is tied with Deathspank for my favorite Arcade game so far

some of the weapon challenges are hard (especially the machete one since some squirts just basically run off the map -_-) but i've found most of them to be pretty fun and not TOO hard. a good tip I found was to just level up the weapon for the challenge beforehand, it almost breaks the challenge in some cases and makes it way too easy (for instance the carbine challenge is stupidly easy once you have faster aiming speed upgraded).

i actually really like the mechanic of falling and some enemies being able to make holes in the levels. it really makes the game feel different from others. it just adds another layer of depth (need to kill those big guys with hammers before they destroy the entire level). although during the reflections I hated how some turrets that spawned will make a hole and there's nothing you can do about it.

I also love how balanced the weapons seem to be. based on everyone I've talked to about the game, everyone seems to have their own favorite weapon combo that is different. I thought my favorite combo was going to be bow + machete, but in the end I was just loving spear + carbine (with special weapon thing being the carbine exploding shot). I never really touched the hammer/flamethrower/rocket launcher though. in my 2nd playthrough I want to mess around with all the weapons more. The only problem is that by the time a lot of them are upgraded, they overlap with each other a lot (for instance the carbine can be upgraded to have splash damage, making it a lot like the shotgun, which can also be upgraded to have much longer range).

The machete challenge is just about planning, not hitting things fast. Just run to the middle and kill the green sprites before they get away and then you run to the blue sprite spawners, then the towers.

This is the best way to do the trial by far .

Yup. makes it totally easy.

Hardest one by far was the bullhead court, shit. Makes all the other ones look like cakewalks. I was so happy once I was finally able to finish without getting hit more than twice. The more awkward part about it is when you have to fight the advanced security, as you will swivel around to target another turret when you still need to block in the other direction. Gotta line them up right to do it.

I've played a few hours and it's some decent fun so far. As others have said, the challenges can be a bit of a pain.

I'm up to :
+ Show Spoiler +
Guy left and we need to collect fragments now.

So far, I'm 4/7 on those available, with the shield, fang repeater and the duel guns non-completed (all of them at level 2 though). Pretty sure I will never finish fang's one, too hard.

I like farming the dream sequence. I've been trying to complete it with the 4 tokens that I have active but it's been proving to be too hard so far (get around halfway but enemies drain half my life bar in a hit, especially the WW ones are annoying). I did it a few times normally though. Bought everything and upgraded everything that's available so far. Completed all the side quests so far (like doing 70 damage, etc) and all I have left for now is the 3 things mentioned up there + main quest.

I'm going to give the dream a few more tries; same thing with the shield/duels challenges... but not the freaking fang one.

The machete is really awesome. Removes the need for a long ranged weapon and hits really fast. I took double poison on it so if I face a tough enemy I can kite it and DoT it with throws. I usually use the musket as my second weapon, since it helps deal with everything else (IE knockback + crowds of enemies).

I've been using the bow and machete personally, with ghost strike. For the fang reaper challenge, upgrade ammo capacity and reload time then try it, When u get to the end of a run, shoot all the balloons before completing the turn, the next set of walkable space doesn't fall untill you turn the corner.I found the weapon challenges really easy actually, got 1st in all of them if u need some tips pm me.

Yeah exactly, the choice they gave there was like a really tough one, and there didn't really seem to be a right or wrong answer. Carrying him was one of my favorite moments in a game ever.

I like the way the trials are, it'd be kind of lame if they were easy right off the bat. But, if you can't complete them you can always get upgrades and tonics then come back. The repeater challenge, for example, is a lot easier with 2 repeater upgrades (recommend +50% dmg so you 1 shot targets and faster reload) than with 0 and the Bow challenge is almost trivial with the poisoned arrows. So if you can't do a challenge, leave it and come back when you have more weapon upgrades.

Also I'd pay some serious $ if someone could make a version of this game/DLC that had PvP arena combat or a DotA-like style combat. (I haven't dipped into the current multiplayer offering so I don't know what that's like yet).

Brilliant ass game. I finished it in one sitting after loading it up.

The music is just outstanding, a must play for any rpg fan.

This game is freaking beautiful, just got it on steam. The music is flat out amazing, but the kicker for me the the storyteller. The way the story is told as you play the game. and his voice. holy shit THAT VOICE
