Most amazing game I've played in recent memory. Story and soundtrack were amazing.

+ Show Spoiler + To live in a fantasy, where you and your love (I presume) are the only ones left alive. You can live without responsibility, doing what you like, when you like, where you like. A dream. Or, sacrifice this and all that you've done to give the human race another chance, including those who caused the calamity. Do they even deserve a second chance? Who's to say this won't happen again? Gosh, I can't even think it over now without second guessing my choice. What a game!

Definitely agree with it being best game played, altho i preordered it so i paid 15. still definitely worth it ^>^ + Show Spoiler + imo the selfish choice was to let the world restart only to have the calamity happen again instead of letting the world move forward. I chose the latter

However as soon as you start unlocking new weapons you can vary your gameplay and it's very interesting. Got me a fully upgraded war machete thats deals more DPS than a pack of stimmed marines, it's very enjoyable ! Fun goes crescendo and the question climax at the end is really great. I regret a little that this kind of very personal and hard question to answer didn't came earlier in the game but it might be asking too much from an indie game, even as good as Bastion. I'm totally going to recommend it after I beat the New Game+. In the meantime for everyone who liked the music :

I was about to post build that wall, but i saw the comment above me. this song is one of the most memorable parts for the game imo.

I've found that other than the Hammer, none of the early game weapons can really cut it against the Ura/things with armor. So I'm basically using Hammer+Calamity Cannon or Hammer+Fire Bellows to kill everything. The "enemies will have vengeance in the thrones of defeat" idol is so fucking annoying omg. Completely loved the game by the way, just being honest with my only disappointment -- as well as the ending feeling a bit sloppy.

Basically, think Secret of Mana + Legend of Mana game system with a badass narrator. If you liked those games, Bastion will be a blast from the past. If you have not played those games, then do yourself a favor and make it happen. Some random tips from my first playthrough (no story spoilers): + Show Spoiler + The most powerful / overpowered thing in this game is your SHIELD. Practicing to get gold in the proving ground for it will give you a lot of mileage with respect of getting better at combat in the game (also, first prize is 2500 fragments!). When in doubt, block! The "enemies will recover life" idol is NOT a good idea for story levels, as it can make bosses unkillable with certain gear combinations. The lost-and-found is essentially a general store. I believe that it comes stocked with one of each weapon upgrade, with more added if you miss collecting them. After you upgrade a weapon, you can actually switch from the options; you do not get locked in. As the narrator tells you incessantly, it is a good idea to upgrade weapons before going for the gold in proving grounds. Werewhiskey and the "everything gets hit around you when you die" cocktail can be put to creative uses for proving grounds. Leechade is best used with damage-over-time attacks that are also fast-hitting (particularly FB with relevant upgrades). There IS such a thing as overpowered and underpowered weapons; this little indie game is certainly not as fine-tuned as our beloved Starcraft. All of the toys you get are dynamically different from each other, and it's more fun to mix it up than to have a "set combo." The most efficient weapon combos generally involve a hard-hitting attack and a fast attack or two hard-hitting attacks, with some armor penetration on either weapon to deal with various annoyances. Forget "melee" and "ranged;" the fang repeater + breaker bow for instance is arguably stronger / more fun than hammatime + one of the ranged. Building the monument will make your fragment problems go away for a long time.

Overall, I had a bit of fun, a bit short (3.5 hours) and I thought it was challenging at times. The color scheme is what I liked most but I definitely wouldn't call this game that superb. Definitely excited for Transistor though
