Well I was hesitant to try another MMO, SWTOR was my first MMO and I loved it for the first month or so but as anyone who played it knows when you hit max its kinda dead.
This game is really really good. The personal story is meh not on SWTOR level imo. The way you level and quest is sooo much fun. You just are going along and a DE pops up then its you and other people helping out. Then a heart zone, o wait there is a vista there. I really like it alot. Happy with my purchase so far.
Was a little confused in getting the UI down still confused on crafting but I think I am getting the hang of it. Level 9 so far in my first day of playing.
Any elementalist have a preferred weapon combo? Right now I have Scepter and off hand dagger but I am just doing it to get the skills. So far I think I like Scepter and Focus or Dagger main hand and focus off hand I really like the skills you get with the dagger in the main hand though it is a little more close combat.

Provide stat booth but has no set bonus (so far, there might be in higher level). It can also be slotted anywhere. Not sure about Marks, since I haven't seen one yet.Sigils are weapon upgrade and normally give non-attribute stat. Runes are armor upgrade. They come in set, and act like a set bonus found in WoW.
Marks are like a cross between Runes and Gems. They can only be slotted into the same things that Runes go into but they gives the same sort of stats as Gems, but with no set bonuses as Runes. So basically crappier version of Runes.

Right now I really like D/D elementalist. It feels more like melee than caster but it's kinda fun to play and kill stuffs fast. The downside is that I'm really fragile that can die easily if I don't pay attention. So I slot in some defensive utility (arcane armor and earth armor) so I could survive in the heat of combat better. I also like staff because it gives me a lot of control that I can use but it kill stuff quite slow so I'm not using it that much.

Woo, thanks for the answer.

Their in-game icon kinda looks like half a mahjong peice, little tile with some sort of ancient symbol on it.

im having a really hard time deciding between ele and engineer. I like mostly support, but want some utility/dmg as well.
Maybe guardian, but im leaning away from them quite a bit since i dont really enjoy melee as much.
Can anyone break down the pros and cons of each?

Started yesterday with this and i'm lvl 10 necro now... and... I don't know, I'm not really digging it yet.
My beefs: Spells seem pretty generic, there is not any that make me go "yeah, take this" (well 1-2 are kinda fun, the channeling/multi-hit things). Imho WoW, to this day with all his faults, is still the best MMO when it comes to this. Especially the skills not granted by your weapon seem to be very underwhelming. As for every weapon granting you other skills... I'm not sure if I like that system yet but I like the idea (atm I'm just using the "strongest" weapon anyway so it's kinda a moot point).
Movement seems "clunky/slow"... Hard to say what exactly I don't like it just feels strange to me.
Questing... I don't know how anyone can like this... Yellow heart --> kill stuff or use some random item you pick up there and kill stuff with it... "The Secret World" does this SOO much better (and SWTOR also did).
Events... Kill stuff and hope there are enough others... Which atm is never a problem (and not fun) because the newbie zones are crowded and it's basically just absolute and total havoc in the small event area... Reminds me of WAR, but in WAR those actually often took some effort.
Well, I'm probably rerolling for a thief this evening and see if that feels any better, atm I really don't get why this game is hyped or should be something "special"... Well, my old Wow-Friends play so I will have fun for some time anyway but well...

I like these people who judge out a game after 10 levels. 10 levels! Tell me man how much of the map you got uncovered totally, 2%? 3%? The game hasn't even started yet. Give it some time man, shit...
It is true that the 10 first levels of the game isn't that exciting(IMO more exciting than most other games), but you have another 70 levels to go. EDIT: Actually I lied. The first 10 leves were the best 10 levels I've played in any game to this date. The game opens up after lvl 20 and REALLY opens up after lvl 30.

I believe you, but the last few MMO's i played did a way better Job in those early levels. Often they are the best story/content wise... In GW2 they seem to be pretty lacking.
Well, i will play on and hope it gets better

What other MMO pits you against a world boss at lvl1? :D

I felt like this at first but after some thought I've enjoyed the game much more. You're supposed to play GW2 like you would Skyrim. If you go through Skyrim only rushing from quest to quest you actually miss most of the game. You're supposed to go out of your way to find neat areas that would normally just be empty space in other games. Same with GW2. Someone on TL or Reddit posted something along the lines of this earlier - you should use the hearts to guide you through the map, and while exploring those areas you'll find dynamic events and such which are the real quests you want.

By these "real" Quests you mean the events that consist of 5-20 people zerging down some mob(s) until you get loot int he end because you mindlessly threw around spells? :D... I hope this gets better later (which is not hard :p).
I hated Morrowind/Oblvion/Skyrim, they are beyond boring for me.

Hmm just perhaps you shouldn't be playing these kinds of games? ;S If you don't find excitement in exploring the land and looting stuff... It just defeats the whole purpose. I'm not sure if GW2 is so similiar though but yeah.
By the way, which is the most mechanically demanding class to play? How about intellectually?

I hated Morrowind/Oblvion/Skyrim, they are beyond boring for me. You're not zerging down 20 mobs to get loot... You're saving the town and it's residents (aka vendors) from being taken over by enemy and securing the use of that town and vendors for a period of time. Seems natural to me that a large group of people may wish to defend the town. Your mindset is why you don't enjoy this game. Seems like you may like WoW because they give you set goals to work at and you're told what to do, versus a game like this or RPGs where you do whatever you feel.
