None of this bullshit drama and super tryhard WvW/sPVP stuff. No guilds at the moment, and no one has stepped up to lead one yet.

To everyone questioning my answer. I merely answering a content on how big the PvE world was. Which the guy I quoted answered. The world is on par with the size of WoW, bigger than GW1. When I saw WoW I mean the 2 main continents, not Northrend or Outlands. Though you can't compare a game with expansion lands to a game fresh with more land possible to come too, just release land with release land.
That's not true. The GW1 Prophecies world is bigger than the gw2 ones. In the first game there were far more regions you can go to. + Show Spoiler +As the maguuma jungle, crystal desert and fire isles are not avaible at launch as well as parts of the southern shiverpeaks. They did add Orr though. With factions and nightfall gw1 currently is far bigger than gw2 is.

I havent played any of the betas, though, and buying the game was sort of an impulse decision, so I've just started looking into the GW wiki and stuff. Anybody have any protips for newcomers? They can be specific to the professions I am looking into, the opening quests, the general gameplay, or just the "if there's one thing I can tell you from playing during the beta weekends.." sort of tips. Much appreciated
Enjoy the world and don't rush. The world is amazing with all the little details, hidden puzzles and so on. Just enjoy. I would recommend to explore a lot. I also recommend to play your personal story as it is a big part of the game.

Maybe you can help TL! As I said previously my girlfriend is playing necro. Which of the three above mesh the best FOR PVE. I will have my own seperate PvP characters that I will do little to any PvE on because of the awesome sPvP system I can do whatever I want for competitive PvP! So, TL which in your opinion would be the most enjoyable for PvE with a necro gf? Elementalist, Warrior or Guardian! I need help I'm wayyy to indecisive.
Haha, ele, warrior, guardian are all in my top 3 (4 and 5 are necro and thief). I decided to play them parallel to each other.

Going to be honest, the biggest problem I see myself having with this game is trying to figure out what to name my characters.
It's the worst.

Theres a bunch of drama surrounding some guild alliances that team legacy are a part of on the other page, thats what the post reffered too.
Also, i hope i dont have to revert to calling myself "Capped N Tapped" Like i did in GW1 when i was 13

All I know is I'll be too late to reserve my first name
I don't think I'll do anything SC related though.
EDIT: I probably won't get my TL handle either, ugh.

I think i've just hit the motherlode for earning $$ making use of the 3days early play haha. Exactly like selling domain names?

Just log in as fast as possible and secure the GW1 story characters or heroes. Gwenn, Mhenlo, Rurik, Koss, ... You have till about 5 minutes past release to secure those :p

Yeah, but probably not allowed in the ToS :D
I think I'm just destined to be Promissory Estoppel the elementalist :/
(Not getting the game until a few weeks after release, anyway...gotta move to my new apartment and set up internet/build a new computer haha).
EDIT: Actually if it's allowed by ArenaNet, I'll take you up on your offer. I'll have to check and see if it's ok with them though, although I'd venture a guess that it'd be illegal. I'll e-mail/call them tomorrow and see if it's ok. If not, then sorry for both of us I guess

Having always used names similar to my TL nick, after playing beta I'm not sure whether I'm the weird person standing out from the crowd if I use this name or is it the case if I use some roleplaying name. To me it seemed like almost everyone seemed to have two-word RP names.
Going for RP name just seems potentially troublesome as I'l be playing a female character, and I won't be RPing.
So yeah fuck naming...

What server is the TL guild going to play on? I would like to join the TL guild if there is one for US ^_^
|
Just pre-purchased the game a few hours ago, size of the folder when the patching was done and I was ready to play was 14.1 GB.
I'd be really interested in a TL guild in US myself as I only have 1 RL friend I know of at the moment who will be buying and at the moment he's trying to decide what server to roll as well.
Haven't been following the game long so I don't think I'd be the best person to start it, but perhaps if nothing goes up by tomorrow night I'll take some intiative. Although I've seen you can be part of multiple guilds but choose the one you wish to represent? If that's the case maybe we can have a TL guild in the US just to keep connected with other forum members? Again not too sure how all that works so if anyone wants to explain I'd appreciate it. From the little reading I haven't gotten a great picture of how the guild system works yet.

A couple questions:
1) How long does it take to download (I have at max 1 MB/s download...) & install the game to be ready for the stress test as soon as servers go up? I might go to GameStop tomorrow but if I have to, I'll go right now to pre-purchase it (I might trade in some old games so GameStop's probably where I'm going to have to get it).
2) Does PvE scale down if a player decides to solo it? Oh, and are there AI that you can add to your party like the original GW (I only played a couple hours of the original so I'm not too experienced w/ GW in general)?
3) Will I be significantly behind if I haven't played GW or is it only for the Hall of Monuments that playing the original ones matter?
4) My MMORPG experience consists of about 100 hours to 300 hours max of RuneScape, 100 to 200 hours of Twelve Sky, and tad bits but not too significant of other MMOs; what can I learn from these games that will help with GW2 and what should I learn/forget/relearn?
Thanks. =) + Show Spoiler +1. Currently my Guild Wars 2 folder is 16 GB.Even if you do get 1MB/s a second, it would still take many hours to download. The good thing is that even though it's not possible to log in, it's perfectly possible to download updates for the game. I even think it's possible to get your hands on the download/update client and start downloading the game right away, even if you currently don't have a key. 2. I wouldn't say that the PvE "scales down" if you solo everything. It does, however, scale things up if there are many players doing the same thing. Some events that occur, occasionally, in the game are considered group events, and are thus not solo-able. That doesn't mean that you can attempt to fight an ancient dragon on your own - it's just that you'll get your butt handed to you. I also don't feel like GW2 gives the same "soloing" experience that you could get in GW1. Basically, in GW2, you run into random people all the time, and it's perfectly possible to run around in Tyria and not be in an "official" party. Basically, people just run around and do whatever they feel like. People join and leave as they please, but you're rarely :soloing" things like you often did in GW1, i.e., running around with henchmen for hours, and not really interacting with other people, since all the gameplay areas were instanced. Oh, and there's no AI in the style of henchmen or heroes like there were in GW1. 3. No, you won't be behind; you simply wont have any of the fancy-pantsy rewards you get in HoM - like a orange tabby cat that can follow you. All of the items earned in HoM are cosmetic, so you will never be punished for not earning them. 4. Not sure what to say about this question. RuneScape and GW2 are so different it's hard to say what to learn/forget/relearn. You'll learn how to play GW2 by simply playing GW2. Some elements of GW2, like crafting, are more complicated. Luckely, there's an official GW2 wiki for that Haven't played or even heard about Twelve Sky. ------- I hope this helped you. Have a nice experience in Tyria! ^_^ Thanks for the help (and you too, Firebolt)! Since my local GameStop closes soon, I doubt I'll make it in time. Also, I quick searched for the beta client and it seems you do need an account with the pre-purchase to download it (though I could probably search around better). This means I'll probably miss tomorrow's stress test but I don't mind too much. However, with school seeming closer than I thought, I have one final question: If I decide to buy the game around the winter holiday season and be part of the the huge wave of people who do, how behind will I be? Or will I actually have an advantage? I was thinking that if I wait longer, more gears will be available and cheaper but then again, GW2 seems to stray away from grinding too hard for gears. Also, the game should be more stable; however, considering how many stress tests ANet is running, the game might just release and be very crisp (though there's still the chance of release date shenanigans that almost every game I've played has had). Oh, and PvP and WvWvW should be more balanced by then, right?
There's a article here (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beta/Getting_Started#The_Guild_Wars_2_Client) on the official Guild Wars 2 wiki providing a link to the client.
I don't really think you'll be at a disadvantage if you join late. The Guild Wars 1 motto of "skill, not hours spent" still applies to Guild Wars 2.
The only advantage I could think of is that WvW would probably have sorted out which servers are evenly matched, making the overall WvW experience more enjoyable.

TL mmo guilds haven't really worked out well in the past, with the huge exception of EVE Online.

Okay a simple way to see is this.
1) You can be in multiple guilds, but can only "Represent" one at any time. When you "Represent" your basically active and earning influence etc for that guild, also access to that guild chat. When your not representing, you dont see anything from the other guilds.
2) Server wise you can do some research. For the first few weeks, Arenanet has already declared there will be free server transfer so expect a large exodus here and there from servers to servers. It's going to be at least a month before anything is settled. Expected server populations can be estimated by seeing how many guilds/alliance are rolling there, there's resources on the web(gw2guru comes to mind) that list where guilds/alliance are going. Those servers are probably going to be very packed.
3) Who wanna make a TL guild?

Yeah I just skimmed through all the drama thats going on around Legacy. Glad I'm not part of that shit!
I like how they are spying on eachother, backstabbing eachother, trying to compete, even sabotaging eachother etc when the game is not even fucking out yet! LOL so hilarious.
Anyways, I hope the EU guild will do well!

That spreadsheet keeping track of members who watches youtube videos and following social media accounts is pretty shitty imo.
