I levelled to 19 on Friday, pvped quite a bit on Saturday (across all classes excluding ranger and necro) and it just doesn't seem very captivating. The only thing I missed out on was organized team vs team pvp, but the rest of the "pvp" seems extremely zergfest and dumb.
how the hell did you get to lvl 19 in one day! It took me like 6 hours yesterday just to get to lvl 10!
Thats some hardcore grinding about 2 lvls an hour ?
I think I'm gonna get a refund. I don't find anything wrong with the game, I just think I'm MMO'd out in my life. I find myself not wanting to play today in the BWE after having played Friday/Saturday. I dunno. I may reconsider come release but as of now I'm gonna ask for my 60 back and prob go back to playing dota2 and the next game on the horizon for me is MechWarrior: Online. I am glad I took the chance and gave it a try out. Like I said I don't think it's anything the game did, I think it's just myself and MMOs in general.
Good Luck to everyone who does continue playing and the TL guild that's out there. Hope you guys kick some ass!

False.
If you're referring to a single pet that can be sold on the AH after purchasing for RL money. I haven't seen anyone actually purchase one. It isn't even remotely comparable to any real RMAH.
The big conspiracy that people were going to be able to mass purchase those pets for resale on the AH never happened. No one cared enough about them to buy them for gold.
That's legally buying gold for real money. It will sell, it just depends on the price, it used to be 5000g, now it will probably sell for 500-1000g at least.

The only thing that's good about the game is that PvP uses standardized gear. But this means there is no progression, so why not play a MOBA game or WoW's arena tournament, both of which are completely skilled based (in the sense that gear is equal)? The WvWvW system, like any form of mass PvP cannot be taken seriously because large scale PvP is always a skill-less zergfest.
How you want to define RMAH is really up to you. I dont think trying to defend it is worth it nowadays cause we all know its going to become the standard in online games sooner or later.
Also, while MOBA these days are becoming F2P and also somewhat based on microtransaction, if i recall WoW arena tournament requires you to pay additional money on top of the subscription you already have. WvW, yes cannot be taken "seriously", but look at some of the videos and stuff done by teamlegacy, "is always a skill-less zergfest" is a rude insult to it.
How RMAH is define is not really controversial. Allowing you to trade real money for in game gold items, through a legal AH seems like a very sensible definition. By this definition GW2 has a RMAH, the fact that there's an additional step involving a cosmetic currency doesn't change this.
I wouldn't consider money or subscription fees a problem for a good game. The problem is that basically all MMOs are no longer subscription and instead either give exclusive items and spells for preordering or buying collector's edition, or have some form of RMAH like GW2. Even WoW let's you legally buy gold for real money now.
And here's the first thing on YouTube about teamlegacy and WvW. Yep, that's a skill-less zergfest, almost as bad as Tol Barad.
People always say how great large scale battles are. Look at all these posts here about WvW, and even in WoW about old AV, and world PvP. But world PvP and large scale PvP like SM vs TM or AV or WvW is always first about faction imbalance, whoever has more players wins, and if there's a system to enforce faction balance like in BGs in WoW or in WvW, then it devolves into a skill-less zergfest. MMO developers need to stop wasting time developing large scale PvP and world PvP. The best form of world PvP happens when you put people together to let it spontaneously happen, like in Quel'Danas or the Molten Front. And large scale PvP... it's just stupid as the video shows.
I didn't have to watch the video. Every time I hear about an MMO with "large scale combat" I just facepalm. I hate it. You could have 10 IM.MVP-level guild wars players on one side and 20 noobs on the other. Guess who's going to win. And don't tell me the 10, because you can't coordinate 10 guys. Maybe if all 10 of them were on Vent and in the same guild, but guess what, they won't be. And guess what, it won't be 10v20, it'll be 30v60 and you won't know what the heck is going on.
I haven't played the game yet. I just hope there are the old gw1 style arenas that were actually fun. I'm bothered that they removed the dual-class system and have seemingly limited, by a large margin comparatively, the number of skill combinations you can therefore dream up, but I'm going to give them a pass on that and see if it works first. Maybe it does. I hope so. :/
I was looking forward to this game, but it seems they took out all the things I loved about the first one and just decided to do something else.

Yeah just submit a support email or do what I did and do the live chat. Took me like 10 mins. Just need your order number and they can start the refund process.

Yea i'm kinda feeling the same way but i wont go ahead and get a refund.
I enjoy the WvW and sPVP enough to play this game. They definitely do a few things right.
I think the overall problem many gamers have with this game is it has a different focus revolving around actually exploring the world and having an impact (ie dynamic events defending zones/ attacking etc/helping npcs) as opposed to the usual gear grind and doing pve for the sake of lvling and progression.
Over the years most MMOs have trained us to just ignore the game world and grind though whatever needs done as fast as possible to hit lvl cap. Hell i dont even care about any Lore anymore no matter how detailed and well written it is. I just want to get to the end and have a strong character with uber stuff.
I've found that with GW2, there isn't really any noticeable difference in the gear rewards (at least much less than other games) and i believe thats part of the games design. It also creates the issue where I don't feel like im actually getting rewarded properly. The difference here is that the reward is meant to be the fun of doing the events with other players and being social and all that jazz, not the end goal of obtaining some shiny piece of gear that has some immediate tangible impact on my character.
From PvE where you rarely find gear upgrades (mostly consumables/craft etc) and it doesn't seem to be required to complete content either. To WvW where everyones stats are normalised to 80 and unlocking the elite pvp gear is soo many lvls away, rewards arent readily apprarent.
Spvp is all balanced as well so its not like your grinding for gear in that either. Though I had the most fun doing this.
My point is that the direction of GW2 is very different from many MMOs. Its not a gear grind fest like we're used to. It revolves around going out in to the world, exploring and being interested in whats happening in the game. Its about the journey, not the destination of hitting cap and getting leet items.
There's also the issue where the skill system feels very simple and your kinda stuck with the same basic abilities the whole way through. Sure you can swap weapons but they all do pretty much the same thing just with different animations.
I wish there were more skills where you could pick and choose what to have on your hotbar. It's too late to reinvent that system though.
To sum up, GW2 is fun but it requires a different mindset to enjoy imo. Approaching this game with the usual gear grind mentality will leave you dissapointed. It's also a fairly easy game that lacks complexity most vets crave.

I played guildwars 1 low-end arenas a lot too(enough to get r4 glad without synching, and r7 gamer). I played the first beta event and had the same impression of WvW that you described - running in to zergs and feeling hopeless with nothing to do. This time around I gave it another shot and spent the entire day playing WvW with a friend and had a completely different experience. This time around for me I was using siege weapons way more. Siege weapons are really easy to get with badges of honor, which you get randomly from player kills.
As far as the limited skill sets go, traits open that wide open and you get really nice bonuses for every 5 trait points put in a line. I'm really happy with what they have done with the game.

That doesn't sound too encouraging. Although it sounds like one could solely play (and level up) on WvW and sPvP?
I can't decide if I want to try this one. A lot of concepts sound awesome, but watching vids things look exaggeratedly over the top (particle effects etc) and really hard to follow or tell what is going on. Not sure how much actual player skill is involved compared to a game like War of the Roses for example (which releases only about a month later). Guess I'll continue to wait and see for now.
I really don't understand why people are complaining about 'zergfests" and "no skill" in this game right now. The vast majority of people have played this game for 6 days tops. You're not going to get super high skill, crazy mechanics, revolutionary strategies when people have only played for 6 days.
That's like people saying SC2 was a horrible no skill game during the first week of beta 'cause everyone and their mother was only 4gating or 6pooling.

This. People are expecting top-notch end game skill cap strategies and mechanics during a BETA of a game that isn't released for months.
You'd need to have low key low fantasy action combat to have a really deep and involved PvP gameplay involving a lot of players.
When everyone is allowed to jump around like they are on crystal meth most of what results is a huge clusterfuck. I actually havent seen an MMO take this route yet BTW.
So many negative comments here. Of course most of the gamers crave for that carrot on a stick and they cannot enjoy a game without it, but bashing the game just because of that and saying WvW is stupid just because you have an insignificant role in it shouldn't discourage other people.
I feel like people that are still up for buying this game should go and look for better feedback on other sites.

Some serious problems in this Beta event which i suppose was due to the server side changes: PvP seemed to be de-activated at certain points throughout the weekend (at least for my server) which was bloody annoying. There was HUGE server lag, like everyone on TS/Vent was getting 10+ second delays and things like this, not to mention WvWvW had 5+ second delays nearly constantly (apart from during the night in EU).
All this combined i hardly played at all, infact it was the worst beta event i've done. Obviously it was reported, but it doesn't give me confidence. I mean, the game comes out in a month right? but still theres a lot of 'Work in Progress' stuff going on, bugs etc.

Like what?
Protip: It's released in approximately one month.
On to something else: Now that I've tried another class for a bit (Elementalist), I would like people who have played more than me and love the game to explain how the game is not a buttonmasher. I'm so disappointed right now and I'm hoping that people who have had the time to play a lot more during the betas can make me feel better about the game. For both my Guardian (which I got to pretty high level) and my Elementalist, I feel like fights are basically "Walk up to enemy, use all your skills. As soon as cooldown for any skill is up, use it immediately". There's no room for skill or improvement. Obviously as a ranged class, you can kite and dodge projectiles for a bit, but it's generally not worth the effort. The game just feels so basic.
For example as an air elementalist with a scepter, why wouldn't you always use your normal attack and spam the bolt and blind? Blind lasts for 6 seconds, so it's not like you will be able to kite it for so long that it won't be used up, and the faster you use it, the more hits you will block with it.

#Worried.
Really?
I pvp'd all weekend with almost no issues, occasionally the whole server would get like 5-20 minutes of lag but compared to the hours of smooth playing it wasn't even noticeable.
