hmmmmm.

i might play Tera. however i have a large dislike of any MMO that includes the so called "instance" dungeons.

Perhaps because my first MMO was Ragnarok online back in 2004.

will be watching this space.

Static endgame content that you just farm until your eyes bleed will always be way way worse than any dynamic playerdriven endgame. I really hope that the political system in Tera will be enough and that it doesn't degrade into a WoW like state where you just sit in town between you teleport to instances.

Don't know enough about endgame to really comment but I really hope there are incentives to be out in the world at max lvl. And I'm not talking about daily quests that you're done with in 20min and then just go back to sit in town. Something that actually might spark conflict and is worth fighting for.

Instanced dungeons is ez mode for caual players not willing to deticate the time needed to join a guild and camp world bosses. RO didn't have this problem as each server did not have such high co-current number of players. They need it to keep player retention and keep a healthy player base. All new games will have it afaik.

I'd rather grind my way through the levels and have fun later on, instead of have to put up with a wannabe story followed by nothing to do at the end. And anyway, TERA isn't really a grind, its just standard questing, which, with a good combat system is perfectly cool. Also, it is generally advised to group up and hunt BAMs, do an instance every now and then while levelling.

Are people really posting here like that without even playing?
There is really no grind at all. You can hit max level by just following the quest line. Even 'Kill x number of mobs' quests are fun cuz of the combat. Name me one mmo that doesnt have 'Kill x number of mobs' quests -_-

this is not true, back then iro and kro had thousands of players, even most private servers these days have very healthy mvp competition. one of the main draws ro had that pvp was incorporated with pve, competing for a high-end mvp kill vs 3-5 different groups at the same time was a very unique and well done mechanic. along with seemingly perfect class balance and woe it made the game truly amazing. rewarding players who spend less time and effort vs those who don't the same way is just bad game design/philosophy. not saying i disagree with your statement, as casual gamers have proven to be where the money's at, but just a personal opinion

Non instanced dungeons would be an enormous mistake for any modern MMO.

No one wants to clear most of a dungeon to have some douchebag group run past and tag the final encounter.

Arena would also be a huge mistake if it were to be implemented in any fashion similar to WoW.

Then you'd kill them, or get killed, which is why it would work in a PvP focused MMO.
But yeah, for a mainstream themepark game that has the mainfocus of getting 120mill subscribers it wouldn't work that well. :p

Lineage2 had a quite good system where you knew the spawnwindow of a boss and you just had to kill everyone coming to the teleporter and be the last clan standing when you could actually do the boss. Ahh good ol times :D

As a long time RO player I think other RO players will enjoy this game. They don't look very much alike but there is a similar feel to the game and the lack of target selection should make any RO player feel comfortable with it. I played in the most recent close beta and it was a lot of fun.

I actually like the idea of having instances be for lower level loot and the world spawns/raids for much higher stuff.

You can still begin to gear up in peace but in order to get the best, you either need to collaborate or be deadly.

That is absolutely not true seeing as how NA/EU PvP is going to be completely different from Korea's PvP and the post he made was about PvP.

It's being designed and launched in Korea first and typically with Korean MMOs like this, we get content months after they do. So when changes are made, they happen to the Korean version first and eventually trickle down to us. That said, like MyThRiLL said, we're not getting the exact same version as Korea has so it might be different in this case.

A similar example would be WoW in China. Chinese WoW servers get content patches long after NA/EU do.

Your idea is interesting, but I have no idea how it would play out. Again going back to WoW, basically every hardcore raiding guild still plays on PvP servers. One ruleset will be considered "the best" and it'll attract all the serious players.
