Hopefully everyone makes the chars in one server; I'd recommend Mount Tyrannas because I think PvP is a huge part of the game, although I hear stories of gankers in lumbertown.

What are the unique points in tera that games with more flowing gameplay don't offer?

Why would you want to que skills in this game anyways. Most of the ability require aiming or some sort of action so i doubt queing will help much. The only thing that queing might help is buffing but that about it. But yes, it also decrease skill cap of the game.
I may not be the best, but i will be some day...

I dunno what you're smoking to say the attacks are slow. You need to level more. Of course you can't queue skills, that'd lessen the skill gap. I played the game when it first came out but it didn't have any end game content. The reason it's good and different is the active aim combat system.

Normal attacks were slow because the attack animation. So you're locked into place for like 0.5 seconds every swing. All skills had a 1-3 second chargeup which makes your character just stand there for that time. This together with no skill overlap which forces you to sit and spam until the animation and recovery after animation finishes makes the gameplay very chopped up imo.

How grindy would you all say this game is? And how soon can you get into pvp, and is it possible to sustain yourself purely though pvp?

Not sure what level you got to or what class you're playing, but generally speaking, as you level up you gain ways to regen MP that ameliorate some of the need to autoattack (or if you play with a mystic in your group, you might never need to autoattack) as well as additional skills that provide ways to cancel animations or animation recovery into more skills. Even at a very early level, you can typically at least cancel into your backstep/dodge/etc.

If you're playing berserker, the class is going to be a lot slower in feel than slayer/warrior for obvious reasons, as the class's core mechanic is all about charged burst damage paired with blocking.

Not grindy in a "kill 1000 mobs" sense, but the vast majority of your leveling will take place through questing (which I loathe, but the leveling path received a smoothing pass at some point in time so it's tough to run out of quests unless you skip dungeons and all BAM quests). You cannot level through pvp alone, and until you get to level cap, the pvp will generally only take the form of open-world pvp. At level cap, pvp can provide you with good gear, but you will still have to do dungeons for the best stuff, and pvp gear is only good for pvp.

It's a non-issue really. Only was ganked twice by a level 60 in the lumbertown area. There's multiple channels you can go in to avoid such instances happening.

this game actually has some animation cancelling and the hitboxes are surprisingly precise for an mmo.
So i really dont kinow why anyone would criticize the combat mechanics.

The game has other problems, though :D

So you don't like it because you have to think about what skills you use so you aren't caught out in a skill animation for 1-3 seconds? I prefer not having to mash something every <1.5s GCD like WoW

I think Tera has the best combat mechanics in any mmo right now, however endgame PvE is pretty lacking and PvP (or GvG) is pretty much a zergfest, I don't even think my PC can handle like 100v100 though lol. Have they implemented an arena system? I only played for the first month during release.

Yeah the combat is quite fun but man the leveling process is...painful to say the least. The devs didn't try so hard in the questing department, it seems.

its a korean game, they are like me and love just going out and killing enemies for an hour for no reason.

Actually, the game was changed quite a bit for the western market and you level up MUCH faster.
I often had to skip whole ares because i outleveled the questprogression.

However, the game lacked (no idea if it still does) content, had only 1 unpopular tankclass (so you have to wait for a tank for 2 hours to do anything) and the whole system was pretty damage focused and the healerclasses looked really bland.

This was my first mmo rolling a healer. (i've played almost every mmo to date) simply because of the actual having to lock manually vs. just having allies bound to the fkeys. It made fights interesting but unlike other mmo's you really couldn't do damage and heal at the same time.

Thanks for reminding me how much of a pain in the ass it was to get a lancer for dungeons that weren't FoK/Balder's before they made warriors able to queue in the tank slot.

After release my friend and I decided to go dps or healer/lancer tank duo. We'd get into any dungeon group instantly lol

Yes I didn't like the flow only using an attack every 3 seconds, it felt slow and boring. I've done WoW and I've done several other mmo's too. I tried Tera looking to see if it's something different, and it is in some ways although most of them bad in my opinion. But taste in gameplay is subjective. I played a berzerker to lvl 15 or there about, I didn't feel the sneak peak you get in the start where you're alot higher level was much different to the low level character so I don't think it'll grow on me gameplaywise solo. Just figured I'd ask you who like it why it's good before giving up on it.

Real BAM and dungeon boss fights are far more demanding and fast paced than any random trash mobs you encounter in the first zones or even the level 20 preview (btw you keep learning core class skills all the way to 60 so whatever impression you have of how your class plays at 20 runs on limited information at best). Berzerker is also the most "slow" class in terms of how long it takes for some moves to resolve. In those 3 seconds you complain about, my Warrior could unleash 4-5 different moves (and still do less DPS T_T). I've also "done WoW and several other mmo's" and TERA was markedly more viscerally satisfying, fast, and responsive. There are also plenty of animations that can be canceled too, so look into that.

I'll try it some more, I like the atmosphere of the game so I'll gladly give it a chance. How does the animation cancelling work?

Only certain moves like a Rain of Blows or Lightning Trap can be canceled, usually by tapping movement or doing another move. You'll have to experiment or read discussions on your class to find out execution tricks and which moves should be canceled. For example, canceling the Sorcerer Lightning Trap normally doesn't do much, but some Sorcerers will run the glyph that makes it boost the damage of your next move so that they can Overchannel, Lightning Trap, cancel, and nuke someone into oblivion in quick succession.

Yeah it was never mechanics that made me (and others) quit. Once you got max level and got tired of doing nexus there was only so much you could do before getting pretty bored.
