You don't think your knowledge of the game gives you a leg up on a total newbie?? Or that your terrible taste in shitty teams like Denver and Chicago might cloud your judgement and cause you to start a shitty player!??! You can't control a player's performance, but you certainly can control when you draft, who you play, etc etc. Even knowledge alone won't get you through a draft if you have no clue when certain positions go and stuff. I think the skill level is low compared the the luck level. I've drafted some of the most fucking stacked teams you'll ever see and gone 9-5 because my opponents have some shit player blow up week after week on me. Admittedly, my team is weak this year, my heart wasn't really in FF at all, but with the losses I've had that have happened almost purely on bad luck, consecutive years, I feel comfortable saying it's more about luck. I Sure, I'll do better than someone who is playing for the first time... the point is that the skill curve is very low between a top player and a bottom player, imo. There are people that just have no fucking clue what they're doing, and never learn; but a smart person vs a smart person always comes down to luck. It's not even comparable to poker in terms of skill. I mean, look at this 2008 team: Peyton Manning QB Matt Forte RB Steve Slaton RB Andre Johnson WR Anquan Boldin WR Chris Cooley TE Matt Prater K Tennessee Titans Def Jeff Fisher HC TEN Clinton Portis RB Earnest Graham RB Jerious Norwood RB Donald Driver WR Antonio Bryant WR Roy Williams WR Visanthe Shiancoe TE Washington Redskins Def There was one team that was even comparable in roster talent throughout the year (that was the year Portis blew up the first 9 weeks, then sucked after the bye, and Earnest Graham was TB's #1 rusher, I think they started 9-3 that season and ended 9-7 missed the playoffs. Forte's rookie year, which was fantastic, as well as Slaton's rookie year, also fantastic. AJ and Boldin were #2 and #7 respectively. Forte was #5, Slaton #6, Portis #9, Graham fell to 44 after a week 9 injury, until which point he averaged roughly 11 ppg. Manning was the #6 QB. Titans #4 D. Shiancoe was the #6 TE, Cooley #7, my kicker rotated all year. Tell me how the fuck that team went 9-5 averaging like 103 ppg that year, as the highest scoring overall team in the league. FF is about luck. I drafted a better team than anyone, and I hit the WW better than anyone that year (got Slaton in week 3, Shiancoe later, and Tennesee in week 3 or 5), and I scraped my way to a one and done in the playoffs. Ward's WRs blow, and considering how Run DMC spanked that Titans line, I'd imagine the Steelers go vintage with Mendenahll, esp with no Ben. Hines will get some looks obviously. Jax blows all around. Gates still seems like the top receiving threat, but Floyd is definitely the #1 WR with Jax out, and Rivers is a beast. If last year is any indication, they are a pass first team now. The run blocking didnt improve. Pass blocking got worse, too, with their stud LT holding out. That team is a fucking mess man. I agree on Floyd. Ward is good for like 7-10 ppg, but I'd rather play high risk high reward here and go with Floyd. This is really the case if you feel like it's going to be a rough MU for you, and you're feeling either loss or tight game. Floyd absolutely has a higher point potential than Ward this week, especially since Mendenhall will probably see a ton of carries. On September 17 2010 03:46 Hawk wrote: What are the match ups for each?? Ward's always safe, but Floyd is oozing with potential. He's a clone of V-Jax and is the #1 WR there. Forget Breaston. Jackson is vs Buff I'm pretty sure and that should seal it alone. Matthrews I really didn't pay attention to, as I missed most of the KC-SD game. SD v JAX I'd play Jackson, given Matthews questionable performance vs KC. Admittedly, KC's D did look much improved. Scott Pioli is the fucking man when it comes to drafting. KC is gonna be a legit threat for a Super Bowl within three years, imo.

Also, this is just a general question; I've probably asked it before, and given my reason for not liking the term, but why are last season's champions called "defending" champions, as if they could lose the championship from last year? If they can't have their title taken away (which they can't, the 2009 champions will never not be considered 2009 champions), then what are they defending? I guess I can see it with the Stanley Cup, because that actual trophy gets passed from team to team, so they're defending the trophy, but the NFL/NBA get a new one every year, so I don't get it. The point I'm driving at here is that it's a new tournament every year, so it doesn't carry over.

Romo, McCoy, Hillis (FML), AJ, Smith(Car), MWilliams(TB), Gates, Cowboys, Gostkowski vs Carson, Gore, BJackson, Fitzgerald, Ward, Nicks, Cooley, Bengals, Longwell. Theoretically I'm favored but that's because ESPN thinks Hillis is going to score 17 points.

SL, I use the poker analogy because the luck of the draw on a player's indivudal game/season is just like variance in poker. Luck factors in both. You flip rockets and get hit with a bad beat, but you go all in pf with that and you win 90% (or whatever, i dont give a fuck) of the time. Sure, you could theoretically win one week by playing nothing but backups. But you play that same match up 100 times, who is coming out on top more often?? There is skill in drafting right, playign the right mus, the right guys ,etc

It's my belief that Gaffney is going to emerge as the Broncos #1 WR at some point this season. Because of that, I'd pick Gaffney.
